* LotusEaterMachine: The entire game world is implied to potentially be one of these; at least two separate graffiti reading "Nothing is Real" can be found in the game (one at Fort Defiance, the other at Watoga High School) and a terminal entry in the Whitespring Bunker titled "Slaves" has one of Thomas Eckhart's advisors try to convince him (apparently successfully, if Eckhart's later behavior is anything to go by) that they were trapped in one of Virtual Strategic Solutions' simulations and nuking a small town in China was the only way to exit it.

It's 2102, and Vault 76 is an okay place to live. No, seriously, it is! Constructed in the heart of UsefulNotes/Appalachia to celebrate America's tercentenary in 2076, Vault-Tec really outdid themselves -- everything's been running just as advertised since the bombs dropped 25 years ago, and soon the day will come when you reemerge to start rebuilding.

At the end of March 2024, America's Playground, the second half of the Atlantic City expansion was released, which added a third expedition to Atlantic City, "The Human Condition", as well as adding open exploration of Atlantic City proper, with three new main quests and two new sidequests set within it, as well a third new sidequest set in Appalachia. In addition, a third expedition to the Pitt will later be introduced, called "Poke the Beehive" (set within a large skyscraper known as the Bastion). Bethesda also announced on December 19, 2023 that an expansion of the main Appalachia map would be added to the game later in 2024, into the Shenandoah National Park in neighboring Virginia.

* BearsAreBadNews: The Yao Guai return in this installment, and as ever are a force to be reckoned with due to their high health, tough hides, and the ability to basically two-swipe a moderately armored player to death, especially due to their deceptively long hit range that lets them claw at those standing on high ground, and the game's tendency to spawn them in packs upon fast traveling. Interestingly enough, the species of black bear from which modern Yao Guai mutated is the official state mammal of West Virginia.

* DifficultButAwesome: Due to the nature of the Unyielding and Bloodied legendary perk scaling, a low-health build is definitely this. When built right, the damage bonus from Bloodied is so high one can reduce even Deathclaws to chunky salsa just by looking at them a bit funny, but god help you if your enemy manages to get a good hit in, since with effectively 20% or less health you will definitely feel it. As you would be relying on the defensive buffs of good armor and Unyielding to bolster your GlassCannon of a character, this build is also extremely risky against monsters that can ignore your armor (e.g. Daily Ops with the Savage Strike mutation). Plus, ambient radiation remains a considerable AchillesHeel given you have so little raw health left and equally as few means of preparing for it without compromising your loadout.

* CriticalStatusBuff: The Bloodied and Unyielding Legendary effects from 4 make a comeback in this game, and there are several more buffs that can supplement a low-health build even further, such as the Adrenal Reaction mutation or Radicool perk, the former of which massively increases your gun damage the lower your HP is, and the former gives you more STR the more irradiated you are, so with this kind of build, the player would be an absolute damage monster when they are within an inch of their lifeFor those wondering at home, the bonus damage from Bloodied caps out at 5% of your health remaining.
