The official languages are Fijian (a Polynesian language spoken by [=iTaukei=]) and English (widely spoken by all ethnicities); a local dialect of Hindi is spoken by the Indian population. The Rotumans have their own indigenous language, a Polynesian language closely related to Fijian.
