!!Drafting characters. Don't mind me. I like having the links available to articles when I'm brainstorming characters in order to flesh them out. Just PM me if it's a problem for whatever reason.

* AsianGalWithWhiteGuy: Albeit with a lot of the personality patterns inverted.
* BreakTheCutie
* CanineCompanion: Mariam makes him take one of her old showdogs, a shih tzu named Missy, with him whenever he goes upstairs or outside the house as a service dog (Missy was trained for this since she was a puppy). Although he resents his mom's heavy-handed insistence (as well as needing to bring such a small breed of dog), he does love Missy.
** CuteButCacophonic
** MisterMuffykins: Missy definitely looks the part, but only yaps when Matt's about to have a seizure.
* ChasteHero
* ChildhoodFriendRomance
* CowardlyLion
* ElectiveMute: As a little kid, and also after Leslie dies.
** StutteringIntoEloquence
* HairOfGold
* HappilyAdopted
* TheHeart
* HeroesLoveDogs: Well, he grew up around them thanks to Mariam.
* IWillWaitForYou
* Ill Boy
** ConvulsiveSeizures: Has many types, this among them.
* TheIngenue: GenderFlip'd
* InnocentBlueEyes
* InnocentProdigy: In spite of his excessive sheltering as a kid, he is remarkably empathetic and able to understand and relate to people very well. This winds up interspersed with his genuine naivete about how the world actually works. Generally, put him together with one other person, and he appears WiseBeyondHisYears. Put him together with a group of people, and he looks like a ShrinkingViolet Manchild.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Memories of went to Lisa. Indeed, .
* LivingEmotionalCrutch
* LossOfIdentity: , was essentially faced with SplitPersonality or this. Chose SplitPersonality.
* LoveTriangle: A two person one!
* MoralityChain
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: After he kills Leslie.
* NervousWreck: As a young boy. Matured into a ShrinkingViolet, but still has trouble speaking in front of people.
* NoodlePeople: In-story example that is noticed by others.
* OneHeadTaller: Although it's mentioned in-story that he's very tall. Also very skinny, so HugeGuyTinyGirl doesn't work, though.
* PrinceCharming: At least in Lisa's eyes.
* Protectorate
* RedOniBlueOni: Blue to Lisa's red.
* RestoredMyFaithInHumanity: Leslie's. Temporarily. Then, she simply decided that she was right the first time, and he wasn't human.
* RomanceGenreHeroes: Relatively straightforward The Best Friend initially. Grows into having a touch of The Nurturer
* ShrinkingViolet
* SplitPersonality
* TearsOfFear / TearsOfRemorse
* TokenReligiousTeammate
* UndyingLoyalty: To Leslie
* WeightWoe: Inverted. He looks nearly skeletal, even as a little kid, and has never had much of an appetite. As an adult, combined with his height, most people would perceive him as looking like he'd been unnaturally stretched on a rack.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears

* AsianGalWithWhiteGuy: Well, Asian-American, but close enough. A bunch of the personality tropes are inverted, however.
* AwfulTruth: Wants to know who sent a monster impersonating her to kill Matt. [[spoiler:Leslie was the real person who snapped and may have killed her own family and many other people and tried to kill her lover and his mom. Lisa is merely an echo of Leslie's memories from after Matt killed her, after which, completely traumatized and trying to handle having two people's worth of memories in his head, he tried to absolve his lover from all guilt. Which, by the way, he probably wouldn't have needed to do if his personality hadn't been completely rewritten by Leslie previously in order to better match her distorted memories of the little boy she used to take care of.]] Yay!
* BeneathTheMask:
** ManicPixieDreamGirl: Mask
** BrokenBird: TrueSelf
* BelievingTheirOwnLies: Very, very good at this. To an extent, it makes her a wonderful liar, since she doesn't betray any hint that she's lying. On the other hand, once people realize this, the effectiveness is taken away quickly, and she can be pretty easy to manipulate.
** ConsummateLiar
* TheChampion
* ChildhoodFriendRomance
* ClingyJealousGirl
* CreepyCoolCrosses: Although she is nearly an atheist, she still likes attention-grabbing trinkets. Whereas Matt keeps his cross necklace tucked under his shirt (religion is a private matter to him, and he's afraid of getting teased or it being taken from him), one shorthand way to tell that Lisa is in charge is that the necklace will be very visible precisely in order to be more attention-grabbing and/or creepy.
* CuteGhostGirl: What she considers herself to be (although she's nitpicky with the language).
* DeadPersonImpersonation: Accused of a very bad attempt at this (due to still looking like Matt, who is male). .
* TheDeterminator: Even as Leslie, she lasted much longer before succumbing to insanity than most could bear. Her sheer grit once she had decided upon a goal was part of what drew her mentor to her in the first place. She used to win fights with boys who picked on C1 back in elementary school not because she was stronger or larger than them (she's actually quite small), but simply because she would keep going long after bullies would give up. A lot of times, on an objective level, she would actually be hurt more.
* DramaticShattering: Her motif.
* FemmeFatale: When she doesn't try to play the Cloudcuckoolander, she generally tries to play this. In general, strangers get this facade, those who interact with her regularly get the Cloudcuckoolander facade, and only Lucas and the Reverend (and Matt, although he doesn't acknowledge it) get to see the actual BrokenBird.
* GuardianEntity
* IGaveMyWord: A princess's code of conduct. Note that she will, however, exploit every loophole in the book.
* IWillDefinitelyProtectYou
* ItAmusedMe: At her worst, tends to fall into this, under the theory that, well, this world and everything in it is cursed anyway. Why not have a little fun until you get out?
* JekyllAndHyde: Matt sees her as Hyde and despises her. Even after he reconciles himself to her existence and thus acts less directly antagonistically toward her, he still can't forgive her for what happened.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Lacks memories of .
* LoveFreak: But only for "worthy" love, which is mostly her own.
* LoveMakesYouCrazy
* LoveTriangle: A two-person one!
* MeaningfulRename: Leslie->Lisa
* Megane / Meganekko
* TheMirrorShowsYourTrueSelf
* NobodyTouchesTheHair
* TheOphelia
* PerkyGoth
* ThePowerOfLove: A true believer in this.
* PrincessPhase: Shared with Leslie, but it's more noticeable here because she's more sane.
* PsychoSupporter
* RapunzelHair: Very intentionally cultivated inspired in part by her favorite fairytale princess.
* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Matt's blue.
* RomanceGenreHeroines: Mix of The Free Spirit and The Waif with a touch of The Seductress every so often.
* ScrewDestiny / GodIsEvil: She's prone to describe her philosophy both ways, depending on who she's talking to. This philosophy is the reason behind her Determinator nature.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan
* SmittenTeenageGirl
* SplitPersonality
* StatuesqueStunner: Only in her head. In reality, she looks like Matt. Before she died, she was actually quite small for her age. In order to reconcile her past appearance with the fact that Matt is much taller and can see over things much taller, she mentally Retcon Retcons her appearance into this.
* StepfordSmiler: Considering her current position screws her from every angle (and internally, she's acutely aware of that), she often tries to act like a flaky Cloudcuckoolander in order to fool other people away, as part of her duty in the role of the princess.
* StrangeGirl
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Looks identical to her mother at a similar age.
* SuperpoweredAlterEgo: Has a much more natural grasp of magic than Matt. Also far less inhibited morally, but not necessarily (in fact, rarely ever) malicious.
* : . Needless to say, she is the only one shocked by this.
* TragicDream
* Trickster
* UndyingLoyalty: To Matt
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend
* WhatHaveIBecome: When the is revealed to her.
* WrongGenreSavvy: Grew up on fairy tales and still tries to play them out in real life
** ThinksLikeARomanceNovel

* AbusiveParents
* AxCrazy
* BattleInTheCenterOfTheMind: One that went on for way too long and ultimately was fought to a stable(r) truce.
* Ballet
* BreakTheCutie
* TheCaretaker: Served as a surrogate for Matt's parents at school.
* ChangelingFantasy: Initially used to like to fantasize that she was the subject of this. When she got older, she switched and liked to fantasize Matt being the subject of this (due to his more plausible circumstances, actually being adopted).
* ChildhoodFriendRomance
* CreatorThumbprint: Both her background in ballet and her tendency to dress every so often in ElegantGothicLolita.
* Daddy Issues
* DrivenToVillainy
* DyingAsYourself: Matt thought this for a split second. Then ItGotWorse.
* DyingLikeAnimals: Has always had a very strong rat streak, very similar to her mom.
* DueToTheDead: Although her body needs to be disappeared quickly, beforehand, it's taken very good care of so that she looks PeacefulInDeath. Granted, this is partially simply in order not to further traumatize Matt.
* EnemyWithin: Back when she was alive.
* EnemyWithout: Actually , only dead and insane...er.
* EvilCounterpart
* ExtremelyDustyHome: Well, it's been unoccupied except for one distraught ghost for a long time.
* FallenHero
* FalseConfession
* FanOfUnderdog: Granted, she can also be seen as a lot of the reason for his underdog-ness.
* FightingFromTheInside: As a ghost, during her more lucid moments.
* GhostlyGoals: Three: 1. Kill Lisa in the most painful and torturous way possible. 2. Kill Matthew without him suffering at all so that they can live TogetherInDeath. 3. Kill whoever opened her closet in the most torturous way possible. Not the most proactive on 1 and 2 because in order to gain Lucas's cooperation, she needed to promise not to interact with either Lisa or Matthew (They haggled for a long time over this), and IGaveMyWord applies. Skewed, but it applies.
* GirlishPigtails: Also how she looked on a daily basis while she was alive, due mostly to her phobia of having her hair touched / pulled.
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: In her desperation for friends after her family moved and she was separated from Matt, she essentially resorts to using stuffed animals in their place, in the privacy of her closet.
** CreepyDoll: Once she completely snaps, they turn real, but their exposure to the real world melts and twists them into nightmarish monsters. Once she dies, they revert back to toys, and there's just scattered stuffed animals throughout Matt's yard and house.
* HappyPlace
* HauntedFetter: Matthew and her collection of stuffed animals.
* HerosMuse
* IWillWaitForYou: Until she snaps, and it becomes...
** IWillFindYou: "...and kill anyone who gets in my way."
* LoopholeAbuse: Similar to Lisa, will try not to break her word. However, she will exploit loopholes, whether they exist or not. Frankly, she's so far gone that her promises aren't incredibly binding, since she can't make heads or tails out of them a little bit later.
* TheLostLenore
* LoveMakesYouEvil
* LoveTriangle: A two-person one!
* MamasBabyPapasMaybe: A very big reason for the abuse she suffered.
* Meganekko
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Played a nasty trick on Lucas during an emotional breakdown. This was the result. She also does this a few times as a ghost during her more lucid moments.
* NobodyTouchesTheHair
* Odango
* OlderThanTheyLook: Even in her early 20s, she looks like she's 14 or 15. Some of this is due to genetics (She comes from a relatively small family). Some of it is due to her efforts in ballet.
* TheOphelia
* PeacefulInDeath: Her body, due to the way she was killed. Her ghost, not so much.
* PowerBornOfMadness: Definitely after she snaps, but even before that, it can be argued that part of the reason she's so natural with magic is because she's half-crazy, even if it's a tamer and less outwardly harmful crazy. Of course, it also feeds off a chain reaction that WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity perpetuates. However, the chain probably started with this one.
* PsychopathicManchild
* RealityWarpingIsNotAToy: Traps herself in a SelfInflictedHell because of this.
* RebelliousSpirit
* RomanceGenreHeroines: Straight-up The Lunatic, stemming from a background as The Waif/The Parasite (The audience can make that call).
* SilentScapegoat
* SmittenTeenageGirl
* StepfordSmiler: Comes from a family of these and tries to play her role, although she's much worse at it than her parents.
* StrangeGirl
* StringyHairedGhostGirl
* TragicDream
* TragicMistake: Possibly trying to deceive Ritsuko in order to be able to spend the night at a different house, but if that isn't it, then her decision to become a SilentScapegoat most certainly was.
* WildCard: Whether she helps or hurts has as much to do with whatever odd thoughts go through her head as what the person she's interacting with does.
* WrongGenreSavvy: Grew up on fairy tales and still tries to play them out in real life
** ThinksLikeARomanceNovel
* Yandere
** CuteAndPsycho

* BigBrotherMentor
* ClearTheirName: Often tries to help ghosts with this.
* FairCop
* TheGift: Considered a (relatively) young prodigy with magic. However, most others consider him to be too HotBlooded at times (once again, relatively speaking), as well as inexperienced with sometimes weak judgement. This may or may not have bitten him in the rear with Leslie.
* KarmaHoudini / MiscarriageOfJustice: Usually considers these to be his primary enemy.
* MurderIsTheBestSolution: At times, although he's generally more wary of pulling the trigger than some of the others he hangs out with. However, in his reaction to Leslie's death, he almost kills Matt as well under the assumption that his mind was probably already tainted by her (Well, it was, but not badly). Without the reverend's intervention, there would have been one (or more) additional life lost.
* MyGreatestFailure: The implosion of his attempt to rehabilitate Leslie kills her, as well as quite a few civilians. Throw on a few more lives that it almost took, and you come to see what a mess it created.
* OpposedMentors: Works with Lisa reluctantly (used to work with Leslie). Usually terrifies Matt and doesn't have a good relationship with him.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure
* SexyMentor: Noticed by Leslie, although she wished otherwise, and wound up leading to a momentary breakdown that turned into MyGodWhatHaveIDone.
* UnhappyMedium: Can understand ghosts and tries to help them, but gets frustrated both by unworthy and nasty ghosts that try to get him to do stuff for them that they don't deserve, as well as frustration that it's so difficult to help out ones who do genuinely deserve help.

* BadassGrandpa
* BadassPreacher
* Confessional: Uses this a lot, but has even more trust from Matt's family than is typical, due to him being a very close family friend. As such, he often becomes...
** TheConfidant
* GoodShepherd
* HonoraryUncle: To Matt.
* NiceGuy
* TheObiWan
* OpposedMentors: Works with Matt. Lisa, being close to an atheist, is usually very fresh-mouthed to him. That said, she still uses him often as TheConfidant. He is amused by her and sees her as an immature child who doesn't know any better.

* AbusiveParents: Her parents got close to this before she married Joseph. In fact, her brother's fear of this trope was part of what prompted him to try to get a deal between him and Mariam.
* AdultChild: At times. Her personality endears her to Leslie and makes it easier for her to take care of Matt when he was young. Unfortunately, her social problems become far more apparent to him as he grows up, and it begins to lead to clashes between the two.
* Asexuality
* TheBeard
* TheCaretaker: To Matt. For a while, allowed Leslie to serve as her surrogate while he was at school. That halted after their sleepover.
* CreatorThumbprint: If there is one character who is intended to be a AuthorAvatar personality-wise, it's Mariam without question. It's most obvious in the type of dogs she breeds - shih tzu. I have a lhasa apso, a breed that looks very similar (not so much personality-wise) and is a bit less common, at home.
* FriendToAllChildren
* FriendToAllLivingThings: She is incredible with dogs. However, she also has...
** NoSocialSkills
* Housewife: Although she does work as well (as a dog breeder), it's home-based work and more of a hobby than a job, since it tends to lose money.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Regarding Leslie's death.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Her actual relationship with her husband
* MyBelovedSmother: Wasn't initially that bad, but she was traumatized during the sleepover incident and will not allow him any latitude of freedom anymore.
* ParentalSubstitute: Leslie used to consider her this as a little kid, and even looked up to her as an ideal before their relationship fell apart.

* TheCaretaker: To Mariam.
* ChildrenRaiseYou: The reason he decided to adopt a child in the first place was as a way to atone.
* EtTuBrute: Mariam's brother was a close friend of his and the only person in the world who knew he was gay. However, high school politics being what they were, he tried to out Joseph to some other guys who were bullying him. Needless to say, their friendship ended there.
* Forgiveness: A few years after having forcibly outed Joseph, Mariam's brother needs to come back and beg him to take care of Mariam. Although still angry with him for his betrayal, Joseph complies, since it wasn't Mariam's fault that happened.
* GayConservative: Similar idea, anyway. Very strongly Catholic and gay. Not really bothering with his views on tax policy.
* Gayngst: As a teenager. Still as an adult, but it's more internal, rather than the external issues he dealt with in school.
** DrivenToSuicide: After the rumor that he's gay starts picking up steam around his school. Rev. Claremont talks him out of it.
* InternalizedCategorism: Still sees a gay lifestyle as sinful. He's trying to repent by swearing off and taking care of his wife and child.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: His actual relationship with his wife.
** BigBrotherInstinct
* MySisterIsOffLimits: Inverted. It's very likely that a portion of the reason Mariam's brother approached him to marry Mariam in spite of their bad relationship is because he knew that Joseph wouldn't be interested in her sexually (The other reason being that the same fact put him in marginally more of a position to say yes than someone else who didn't still resent him).
* NiceGuy
* OverprotectiveDad: More laid back than his wife, but still allows her to do most of what she wants without complaint.
* StraightGay

* ArrangedMarriage: Omiai.
* BelievingTheirOwnLies: She's still convinced that her husband is the sweetest thing in the world, despite his abuse of Leslie (and before that, Ritsuko herself) and alcoholism.
* ExtremeDoormat: Unfortunately. She tries to be a YamatoNadeshiko, but the steel only appears after the key decision has been made.
** DyingLikeAnimals: She has a terrible tendency to ignore her problems until the last possible moment (and often longer than that) before actually speaking up to try to change the situation. More often than not, she's too late.
* Housewife
* ImmigrantParents: To Leslie.
* LoveTriangle: With her first husband and Young-soo.
* MoralityPet: To Young-soo.
* ParentalMarriageVeto: Didn't even try to get approval of her relationship with Young-soo to begin with, since she knew that he, being Korean, would not be accepted.
* ShadowArchetype: To Mariam
* StepfordSmiler
* YouHaveWaitedLongEnough: Unaware of the relationship variety.

* AbusiveParents
* AlcoholicParent
* AnImmigrantsTale
* DaddyDNATest: Wanted this on Leslie, but Ritsuko was completely against, perhaps because she was worried how it would come out.
* FatalFlaw: Resentment. This guy holds a grudge for a long time.
* ImmigrantParents: To Leslie.
* KickTheSonOfABitch: It's assumed that Leslie killed him after she snapped.
* LoveTriangle: With Ritsuko and her first husband.
* MisplacedRetribution
* MoralEventHorizon: The sleepover incident itself could possibly be written off as a tragic accident, but when he has Leslie take the blame for it (which essentially sends her mind off a cliff), he's crossed this.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: After one time when his abuse risked Leslie's life - he tried to strangle her with her hair. Also after the sleepover incident, in which he beat Matt within an inch of his life.
* ResentfulGuardian: After his giant marriage mess, because he's not certain the parentage of Leslie, he takes most of the blame out on her.
* ShadowArchetype: To Joseph.
* SharpDressedMan: Makes a big show out of catering everything, especially his and his family's clothes, to create an image of wealth. For that reason, he's very shy of letting people into his house, since he tends to cut back there in order to afford such displays.
* SoProudOfYou: Her dance recitals. Is it any wonder she has an emotional attachment to dance?
* StepfordSmiler

* EtTuBrute: Mariam's brother was a close friend of his and the only person in the world who knew he was gay. However, high school politics being what they were, he tried to out Joseph to some other guys who were bullying him. Needless to say, their friendship ended there.
