Added DiffLines:

* WordOfSaintPaul: Taking inspiration from their childhood growing up in the more progressive Episcopal Church, Jane Widdop states that their character, Laura Lee, is an AllLovingHero who wouldn't judge others for their sexuality (and likely would have supported Tai and Van when they came out). Widdop also floated Creator/ReeseWitherspoon, Creator/GillianJacobs and Creator/CameronDiaz as actresses who they could see playing Laura Lee had she survived.

Same for blue-eyed Creator/SamanthaHanratty, who had to match eye color with brown-eyed Creator/ChristinaRicci. Blonde blue-eyed Creator/SophieNelisse went brunette and brown-eyed to match Creator/MelanieLynskey.

Admittedly, Widdop did grow up Christian and Christianity isn't necessarily homophobic, but unfortunately often is. Also, I'm not sure if "non-binary lesbian" is an appropriate term since "lesbian" specifically refers to women.

* TroubledProduction: The show was picked up by Showtime in 2019. The pilot was shot in late 2019, but then the COVID-19 pandemic happened, which delayed filming for a full year and a half. Filming only ended in May 2021. There was also a relatively long wait between filming Seasons 1 and 2, given how early the show had been renewed for Season 2. The writers also hadn't intended to kill [[spoiler:adult Nat off so early, but Creator/JulietteLewis wanted to leave]], so the season was rejigged around that. After Season 2, the WGA and actors' strikes happened, both of which have delayed Season 3 until 2025.

It hasn't been confirmed when Van was supposed to die

** Vanessa Palmer was supposed to die in the woods in the first season. The writers were so impressed with Liv Hewson's performance that not only does their character live, but was scripted to have survived into adulthood, with an adult version appearing in Season 2.

Added DiffLines:

* RealLifeWritesTheHairstyle:
** Adult Natalie's hair being in an unkempt bob was a result of Juliette Lewis cutting it that way for a previous role.
** A flashback to Lottie's time in a Swiss mental hospital shows her hair being at shoulder-length, which is how Courtney Eaton actually had it at the time of filming, but of course had to wear a wig for continuity reasons in the scenes in the wilderness.

Growing dissatisfied with only being offered generic 'fat girl' parts, she turned to independent films for the 2010s.
