Added DiffLines:

* ActorAllusion:
** Beau is pretty attached to his beef.
** In the opening credits we see a picture of a young Maggie wearing a cowboy hat. It's a picture of Debra Winger's character from ''Film/UrbanCowboy''.
* ActorSharedBackground: Sam Elliot actually lives on a ranch, though in California rather than Colorado.
* IWantYouToMeetAnOldFriendOfMine:
** With Kutcher and Masterson as alumni of ''Series/That70sShow'', a number of the supporting cast are also connected to that show.
*** Creator/BretHarrison, who plays Kenny, played recurring character Charlie Richardson.
*** Creator/WilmerValderrama shows up as Umberto near the end of Season 1.
*** Creator/DebraJoRupp shows up at the start of Season Two as Abby's mom.
*** Creator/KurtwoodSmith, as Peterson, emerges from a room full of billowing smoke with a grin on his face. Unlike the characters on ''Series/That70sShow'', he outright states that he's smoking pot, though it’s also because he has terminal cancer.
** Beer Pong Billy is played by Ethan Suplee, who appeared alongside Ashton Kutcher in ''Film/TheButterflyEffect''.
** Creator/JonCryer, who plays the bank loan officer in the episode "Til It's Gone" starred alongside Ashton Kutcher in ''Series/TwoAndAHalfMen''.
** Creator/DaxShepherd, who plays Luke Matthews, was one of Ashton’s collaborators on the first season of ''Series/{{Punkd}}''.
* CaliforniaDoubling: Though set in Colorado, most of the show is filmed on a soundstage in LA. The external shots in the credits are Ouray, Colorado.
* PromotedToOpeningTitles: Elisha Cuthbert in Part 3
* RealSongThemeTune: "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys."
* RecycledScript: Part 5 has the family in a financially tight position, very similar to Part 1, only for them surviving a natural disaster putting them in a better position. Subverted slightly in that Beau didn't take full advantage of Neumann's Hill situation, despite them having plenty of money to offer, as he didn't find it fair to directly profit off their misfortune.
* RoleEndingMisdemeanor: Creator/DannyMasterson was fired from the show after four women came forth with rape allegations (he was later arrested and charged in connection with three of these allegations in June 2020), resulting in Rooster being written off the show.
