Not only is the reason for the difference in the Hyuuga clan unrevealed, but the portrayal of Hiashi is shown to be blatantly more negative than in canon, even at the time period. Canon Hiashi apologized to Neji after he lost, while Team 8 Hiashi is angered at him. As it stands, this trivia is too subjective to apply here.
