Creator/AndrewRobinson was considered next, but the producers decided that fans were also considered.too protective of Robinson's portrayal of Garak to allow him to play someone else. Although they ''did'' hold open auditions for the part, they were a total bust. They settled on J.G. Hertzler more or less by process of elimination.
