* StillbornFranchise: A sequel titled ''Still Running'' was planned and different scripts were written. But Creator/BillyCrystal and Gregory Hines did not think any of them were strong enough to warrant a sequel and turned them all down.
* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: When Danny and Ray are having second thoughts about retiring to Florida near the end of the movie, they mention that Florida doesn't have a basketball team, and the only major league baseball they have is spring training. Since the 1990's, the NBA now has two teams in Florida (Miami Heat and Orlando Magic), while Major League Baseball has two teams there as well (Miami Marlins - formerly the Florida Marlins - and Tampa Bay Rays).
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Originally, the script was written for Creator/GeneHackman and Creator/PaulNewman, but director Creator/PeterHyams decided to make the characters younger.

** Creator/TomSelleck and Creator/JohnTravolta were also considered, but Selleck couldn't get out of his commitments for ''Series/MagnumPI'', and Travolta's agent didn't think it was right for him.

* CaliforniaDoubling: Averted for the most part; all of the Chicago outdoor scenes were filmed on location (including the car chase on the L tracks), and most of the Florida Keys scenes were shot on location. However, part of the movie was shot in Los Angeles.
