** The Troubles largely ended after the 1998 Good Friday Agreement.
** One scene hinges on the Ryans communicating by car phone, which was a pretty high-end item in 1990.
** On a meta level, Sean Bean's noodle arms, highlighted by a series of ill-fitting t-shirts, would only be acceptable in a big-budget movie prior to the 2000s, when physical training became a staple for actors playing heavies.

** The final battle was originally supposed to have Ryan and Miller fighting on large rocks in the middle of the stormy sea. The fight would end with Miller drowning. Test audiences weren't excited with this conclusion, so the final battle was changed to a boat chase instead.

** The final battle circumstances that led to Creator/AlecBaldwin not reprising his role for the film have been contentious and not fully-known until TheNewTens. Baldwin claimed [[https://www.huffpost.com/entry/alec-baldwin-charlie-sheen_b_834847# in a 2011 interview with Huffington Post]] that he was originally supposed intended to have return as the title character after starring in ''Film/TheHuntForRedOctober''. Instead, he was called by that film's director, Creator/JohnMcTiernan, who informed him that the studio had gone behind his back and offered his part to an "unnamed actor" (likely Creator/HarrisonFord himself, who was previously intended to star in ''Red October'' before dropping out regarding concerns about the amount of screentime he'd have) who the studio owed debt to regarding a greenlit project the star was set to play in that fell through. Baldwin would then go on to accuse studio executive David Fitzpatrick of ultimately pushing him out of the role, under the pretense of giving him an ultimatum regarding filming dates. Baldwin ultimately decided to leave the project and star in a Broadway adaptation of ''Theatre/AStreetcarNamedDesire''.
** An unused climactic scene was filmed that would show
Ryan and Miller fighting on large rocks in the middle of sea after they both fall off the stormy sea. The fight would end boat, with Ford ultimately emerging victorious from under the waves and Miller drowning. Test Once test screenings were held, however, audiences weren't excited with this conclusion, so criticized the scene for being too dark and looking like "two guys doing ballet". The final battle was changed to a boat chase instead.

** Creator/AlecBaldwin was offered the role of Jack Ryan again, but decided to do a play instead.
