* ActorInspiredElement: A very subtle one -- if you look closely, Melbury is actually clean-shaven in the location scenes he appears in. As with all BBC programmes of that era, location footage was filmed ahead of time, and the actor playing him needed to be clean-shaven for another role he was doing before the studio shoot. The director and Creator/JohnCleese allowed this, on the grounds that it would play into Melbury's being a con artist.
