** This troper was recently rewatching this film for the first time in several years and had completely forgotten about one of Scar's lines during that little guilt trip: "Oh, what will your mother think?" That broken little look in poor Simba's eyes... This troper instinctively yelled [[PrecisionFStrike "You son-of-a-bitch!"]] at the TV screen. Scar, you CompleteMonster.

* [[ItGotWorse This is especially tear jerking when you realize that the original actor in this role hung himself because he couldn't sort out the differences he had with his father.]]

** In [[Tropers/{{Eelektross}} my]] opinion, this scene is actually '''worse''' than the death of {{Bambi}}'s mom. For one thing, there isn't any MoodWhiplash to this scene, no "she's dead" followed by a bunch of birds hopping around in Springtime to happy music; no, we get [[CompleteMonster Scar]] telling HIS OWN NEPHEW that it's his fault his father is dead, and telling him to run away and never return, and THEN he sends [[TerribleTrio the Hyenas]] after him to kill him. There's a little bit of comedy courtesy of [[DumbMuscle Banzai]] falling into a bramble patch, but THEN we see Scar giving a none-too-sincere eulogy for Simba and Mufasa, and we see the lionesses and Zazu's reaction to this... And then the Hyenas come out. And these aren't the goofy trio that we know and love; these hyenas are NightmareFuel. And then we see Rafiki's reaction. Given Rafiki was Mufasa's closest friend, it just... Gets to be too much. And then we see [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter cute little Simba]] almost dead in the desert. All I can say is thank [[{{Futurama}} Zombie Jesus]] that [[ThoseTwoGuys Timon and Pumbaa]] showed up when they did.

** Not to mention, Rafiki as he watches a dark era arrive in the Pridelands, followed by him smudging out a drawing of Simba on his tree (he was believed by everyone to be dead at the time).

* Mufasa's demise. Unlike Bambi, more of the interaction between Simba and Mufasa was on-screen; Bambi's mother's demise was distant, whereas the scene where Mufasa is killed shows the body is pulled about by his son, because he can't understand why his father won't ''wake up''...

* Kovu being rejected by Simba, and seeing Scar as his reflection. Made even worse by the fact that [[spoiler: he loves Kiara and didn't want to kill Simona.]]

(cue Timon, Pumbaa, and the audience crying hysterically)

** Before Mufasa's death, Simba and his father were talking about the king's of the past, and after that, Simba asks if they were going to be pals forever. Since that this drove This Troper to tears!

** The music that plays during the scene certainly doesn't help, especially when the part that I call "Mufasa's Theme" comes in. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKgFQejQs_g It's the part around 1:15]]. Add Simba trying in vain to wake his dad up, and then in utter despair trying to cuddle up under his paw, and you have a scene that is possibly one of the saddest in any animated film ever.

* Mufasa's death gets this troper every time. But even more heartwrenching is watching it slowly dawn on ''Simba'' that his dad's gone.
