* ConspicuousConsumption: "Baron" Kagetsu, as the scion of a famous wealthy family, does not hesitate in throwing money around. His {{Backstory}}, as revealed in ''Import Tuner Challenge'', saw him receiving a foreign sports car for his eighteenth birthday, only to immediately switch to an RX-7 FD just because he liked it better. He invests massive amounts on body parts and engine tuning, far more than most other runners can afford.
* HeroWorshipper: Daisuke Makihara's admiration for Yōichi Sumi of Super Speed Wagon runs so deep he became a highway runner exclusively to imitate his idol and try to get close to him. Or, er, ''ran'' so deep, atleast: with Sumi graduating from university by the time of ''3'', leaving Makihara with no one to look up to or chase after and completely burned out.

* ShipTease: A form of tease is present between Rina Kawamoto and Tadashi Mochida, starting from ''Zero'' and still ongoing by the time of ''Import Tuner Challenge''. To make a ''very'' long story short: Tadashi has something of a big crush on her, but can't quite bring himself to spit it out. Rina, at first finding this behaviour curious, is implied to begin crushing back on him by the time of ''3'', as he begins missing him whenever he has to take breaks from highway racing. Between then and ''Import Tuner Challenge'', Tadashi finally mustered up enough courage to confess his feelings... leaving Rina completely dumbstruck. To deal with this, she laid out a challenge for him: beat her in a race, and she would've gone out with him. He, who took years to come clean, has yet to accept the challenge, whilst she is growing frustrated and disappointed with this perceived lack of commitment.
* ShippingTorpedo: Quite a few people noticed Tadashi's interest in Rina, which lead him to try and dispel those rumors by insisting she only saw her as a FriendlyRival. Be it true or mere self-denial, his attempt obviously failed, as he's fallen head-over-heels for her by ''3''.

to:

* UpperClassTwit: "Baron" Kogetsu is a nobleman's son, and the rich scion of a wealthy, famous family. He throws enormous amounts of money into his car, yet in spite of that he's arguably the worst racer amongst the ranks of Twister, if not most of Tokyo's teams. He completely lacks the technique to bring the best out of his car, alongside the drive to improve himself: if he's not in the right mood, he will give up and throw the race in favour of whoever challenges him.
* {{Workaholic}}:
** Yasuyuki's bio in ''Import Tuner Challenge'' describes him as incredibly dilligent in his work as a burger joint manager, to the point of being duly noticed by his higher-ups. This extends to his everyday efforts, from learning to fit in amongst Tokyo's crowd to constantly improving his racecraft.
** Shirou Hosoyama is determined to make his singing career work, no matter how long it takes or how many bumps in the road he hits. He consistently puts in enormous amounts of effort into it, going well beyond the normal call of duty. He puts the same amount of effort into his racing, to the point he became one of the fastest-improving rookies of Tokyo and a respected member of Twister in a very short time.
* UnskilledButStrong: Rina Kawamoto is considered to be a natural talent, which makes her driving look seamless to observers. However, her lack of experience shows, especially in battles, with some rough racecraft and interactions with other drivers.

\n* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Rolling Guy #5, as a graduate student in engineering, is easily the most knowledgeable member of the team, capable of adapting to any course or condition by falling back on his theorical studies and applying them to each and every situation. It's said he has found the "perfect line" on the C1 Loop through countless trials, but that he can't use it proficiently due to his car's weaknesses.
* ButNowIMustGo: After founding the team, bringing it near the top of the mountain pass racing world, moving it to the Metropolitan Expressway, and finding some success in circuit racing alongside his brother, Satoru abandoned Rolling Guy after the events of ''Zero''. His thoughts and behaviour strongly suggest he did this so the team, especially Akira, could begin growing without him and take one more leap, but it's clear that it was not easy for him to do so.
* BlatantLies: Satoru will swear up and down that he has no regrets nor any lingering interest in the team after leaving Rolling Guy in ''Zero''... yet, he will constantly seek out his former teammates to challenge them and see their progress first-hand. If he can teach them a lesson, all the better. He gets better about this by ''Import Tuner Challenge'', as he now claims to "support them from behind the scenes". Yeah, right.
* DirtyBusiness: Satoru had to resort to blocking and other vicious, dirty means to prevail in races back in the days of the first ''Drift'' game, as he lacked the money to tune up his [=AE86=]. The entire ordeal caused him no small amounts of self-loathing
* DoNotCallMePaul: Mamoru Mitsuike is puzzled by Rolling Guy's naming convention, to say the least. Although he doesn't outwardly express it, he really wishes everyone else referred to him by his original Nagoya street name of Torn Asunder Heartbeat.
* DontThinkFeel: In contrast to Hiroshi, alongside whom he joined the team, Rolling Guy #6 forgoes all theory and drives his car purely on instinct and feeling.
* GoalInLife: Revealed retroactively, but Satoru's dream was always to become a professional racer. In spite of his very meager resources, he slowly worked towards that goal alongside his brother and his friends, finally beginning to see the fruits of his labour sometime before the first game. He finally achieved this goal after quitting Rolling Guy in ''Zero'': in all games chronologically onwards, his bio lists his profession as "pro racer".
* TechnicianVersusPerformer: Minor, but nonetheless present, as the team is almost evenly split between the more technical drivers who are more performance-minded and prefer to be dry and opportunistic to win, and flashier drifters who believe there to be no point in racing if they're not looking good and having fun. This is also reflected amongst the Kobayakawa brothers: Satoru is the more technical of the two, whilst Akira is naturally flashier but feels more compelled to emulate him. After Satoru leaves and Akira takes over the team, he gradually slips back into his natural performer style.
* TrueCompanions: The founders of the team, back when they were racing on mountain passes and Satory was still the leader, have a very close relationship with one another, having supported each other's dreams and helped one another. When Satoru left the team and Akira had to step up, Tsutomu and Haruhiko immediately went to assist him, even though the latter wasn't overtly happy with Satoru's actions.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Punching bag of the Expressway they might be, Rolling Guy are still an incredibly skilled, long-tenured team who know the ins and outs of their cars and turfs like no one else: underestimating them is, frankly put, a very dumb idea, as Akira will let any opposing team known upon driving them back in ''Street Supremacy''.
* YouAreInCommandNow: For some reason, it was Hiroshi Takanayagi who takes leadership of the team on mountain pass expeditions instead of Akira with Satoru gone. Apparently, he voluntereed for the spot because of his past experiences, and the other members raised no objections in splitting the leadership this way.
* YouCannotKillAnIdea: Akira strongly believes in the idea of a "rolling spirit", an ensemble of the encompassing values, passions, and against-all-odds attitudes of Rolling Guy members through-out the years. If Rolling Guy is forced to disband in ''Street Supremacy'', he'll react by claiming that the end of the team is not the end of the "rolling spirit" before encouraging its now-former members to carry that spirit onwards, away from the Metropolitan Expressway.
* YouGottaBeKiddingMe: Akira will react this way upon being defeated for the leadership of Rolling Guy in ''Street Supremacy''. After a brief moment, he'll get over it [[GracefulLoser and accept his defeat, handing the team's reigns to the player]].

* Foil: SS Limited serve as one to MAX Racing, the other all-sedan team of the first twenty. The game lampshades that both, at their base, share the same concept, both used to be extremely ambitious, both aimed for supremacy on the C1 Loop, and both are in near-identical situation come ''Import Tuner Challenge'': long-standing shadows of their former glory with an aging line-up and a different leader in charge from their founder. However, whereas SS Limited did manage to recruit new members -- Itō and Tsurumi -- MAX Racing has retained the exact same line-up across all games they appeared in. SS Limited members get along with one another and have a healthy relationship with their current leader, who was handpicked by the founder; MAX Racing members, instead, are split in two warring factions constantly at each other's throats, and come ''Import Tuner Challenge'' tensions are growing within them too, and their new leader, who usurped the position through "combat", isn't nearly as well respected. Lastly, SS Limited's ambition, albeit damaged, is still there, as the team moved to the New Belt Line to be more competitive; MAX Racing have been so crippled by internal conflicts they're still where they begun decades ago, on the C1 Loop.

to:

** Likewise, Hajime Tsurumi and Takaki Wada openly compete with one another, yet trust each other enough to talk behind their respective teams' backs and planned to form a new team together before Hajime got married, had a kid and backed out of the idea.

* MeaningfulName: "Chemical" Itō earned himself his street name for, what else, being a chemical buff. He loves toying with all sorts of chemical substances, such as oil additives, combustion aids, liquid for wipers, ion coatings, and so on, to the point he's integrated them into his car's tuning.

* BrokenAce: Masaki used to be a notable up-and-coming racer, on the constant pursuit for self-improvement and more power. However, a near-accident between the events of ''2'' and ''Zero'' almost destroyed his fighting spirit, causing him to end up overwhelmed by the fear of another accident the longer a battle drags on. By the time of ''Import Tuner Challenge'', he's finally become the leader of MAX Racing, but his psychological fragility firmly put a stop to his potential growth.
* CharacterDevelopment: Ryūta used to think, like other members of MAX Racing, that power was all that was necessary to race on the Expressway. Over time, however, he started to think differently and realized that he needed to lighten his car and focus on handling. This lead him to join up with the similar-minded Masanori, leading them and Akihiro to form the Three Musketeers.
* ClosetGeek: Omohiko, for one reason or another, refused to come clean about his love for anime for years in spite of his catchphrase being a famous Gundam reference. He was forced out of the closet sometime before the events of ''Import Tuner Challenge'', at which point he owed up to it and reconverted his video rental store into an anime DVD store.

* Foil: MAX Racing serve as one to SS Limited, the other all-sedan team of the first twenty. The game lampshades that both, at their base, share the same concept, both used to be extremely ambitious, both aimed for supremacy on the C1 Loop, both have sports car-hating members, and both are in near-identical situation come ''Import Tuner Challenge'': long-standing shadows of their former glory with an aging line-up and a different leader in charge from their founder. The differences quickly come to light under close scrutiny: MAX Racing kept their original line-up across every game, whereas SS Limited, in spite of their issue, has managed to recruit new memebrs in Itō and Tsurumi. MAX Racing members are always at odds, split into two factions and with the leader and second-in-command secretly plotting to replace one another in a never-ending cycle, whereas SS Limited members get along swimmingly. Last, but not least, SS Limited still has their original drive intact, if not somewhat dented, as they finally made the move to the New Belt Line after years on the C1 Loop. MAX Racing, instead, is so paralyzed by their constant, internal squabbling that their ambitions are completely gone, much like their leader's.
* NowWhat: Masaki had been striving since the first game to reach Omohiko's levels, constantly improving himself and his car in the pursuit for more power. When the occasion came, he challenged him to a battle and defeated him to become MAX Racing's new leader... and now, he's at a complete and utter loss on what to do next. As ''Import Tuner Challenge'' was the final release in the ''Tokyo Xtreme Racer'' series, players aren't given an answer either.

to:

* ShoutOut: Reportedly, Omohiko is fond of saying "a red car is three times faster", which is why he only buys red ones. His own bio lampshades that he might be watching too much anime.
* SoreLoser: Omohiko has a tough time accepting defeats, and will often mumble and complain under his breath about them. This isn't because of any superiority complex, but rather due to his refusal to throw in the towel: to him, being forced to accept defeat is akin to being forced to give up.
* SplitPersonality: Omohiko is said to normally be very mild-mannered in every day life. The ''moment'' he sits behind the wheel, however, he does a complete one-eighty and turns into an extremely vicious and reckless driver. Whilst part of his racing strategy, this has caused his reputation amongst his fellows to sink.
* WithFriendsLikeThese: The team's been split between two camps for a long time now. Come ''Import Tuner Challenge'', even the Musketeers are growing at odds with one another.
* YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe: This is how Golden Beast reacts upon defeating the player in ''Import Tuner Challenge'': after seeing the rest of MAX Racing defeated, he was not expecting this result.
-->'''Golden Beast''': Hey, you've gotta take me seriously. Is this really the best you can do?

to:

* AloofLeaderAffableSubordinate: Takuya has been described as distant from the rest of Diamond Image, not really taking care of the team or its members. By contrast, his second-in-command Ishī is unflappably jovial, in spite of swimming in debt, which lead him to take over the day-to-day management of the team. In spite of that, Hagiwara remains vital in his position as leader, as his aura of charisma is what holds Diamond Image together to begin with.
* AwesomeButImpractical: Jun'ichi's silver 180SX is renowed across Tokyo for having hit a top speed of 300 kilometers per hour on the Yokohama Line. To reach that speed, however, the car has unnaturally long gearing, which puts it at heavy disadvantage against cars that accelerate faster than it. Moreso, because the car's body was exclusively lightened in the pursuit of such speeds, it's incredibly unstable in corners and constantly looks on the verge of losing control.
* CameraFiend: Asuka started off as a member of her college's camera club before graduating to full-time professional photographer by the time of ''3'': her being assigned to take photos at a drifting event during her student years is what led her to get interest in the world of racing. Her experience as a photographer gives her excellent peripherical and long-distance vision, which she uses to great effect in races.
* MeaningfulName: Itsuki earned the street name of "Spring Roll Itsuki" due to his frequent trips to Yokohama's Chinatown, after which he'd return with spring rolls for the entire team.
* PerpetualPoverty: In spite of having tuned a car, wrecked it, bought and tuned another one, collected loans upon loans and, cherry on top, been in the process of bankruptcy for years, Manabu ''somehow'' manages to not just hang in there, but continue his university studies on top of his racing endeavours.
* PotteryBarnPoor: Manabu not only doesn't have a stable job due to being an university student, he's also in perennial debt with ''two'' maxed out credit cards to pay off and an open bankruptcy process. Somehow, he managed to buy a second [=AE86=] after wrecking his first one, and he can still afford to race on the Expressway regularly.
* SameSurnameMeansRelated: Kazuki and Asuka share the surname Nakanishi, something the latter noted upon joining Diamond Image. Although they aren't related and the shared surname is mere coincidence, this created a one-sided rivalry between the two, with Asuka wishing to battle against Kazuki to establish "the better Nakanishi".
* TechnicalEuphemism: Kazuki Nakanishi's car is equipped with a "radar" that has "saved his life on several occasions" but has been "malfunctioning" lately. He's actually referring to his glasses, which helped his eyesight but have been giving him trouble due to his developing agstigmatism... that is, until later games clarify he ''also'' has a ''legitimate military radar'' installed on his car.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: For Itsuki Ōuchi, it's spring rolls. He doesn't just buy them for his teammates, as he claims he'll eat all of them by himself if no one wants any in ''Racing Battle: [=C1GP=]''

* ArtifactName: Toshimitsu's street name of "Hell's Drifter" used to mean "drifter from hell". Upon witnessing his drifting skills, however, people from Tokyo thought it means he was "one ''hell'' of a ''drifter''". [[SureLetsGoWithThat Instead of correcting them, Toshimitsu decided to go with their new interpretation]].
* BreakTheHaughty: Teruki used to be extremely arrogant, proudly declaring that "only rear-wheel drive cars are true cars" and boasting about his year-long win streak. Something happened, likely getting trounced by Purple Meteor or the driver of a front-wheel drive car, that caused him to become a lot more reserved and modest.
* CantCatchUp: In spite of his best efforts, Toshimitsu is by far one of the slowest members of the team due to his drifting eating up any momentum his car might have -- alongside its tires -- unlike the others, who rely on less flashy drifts to carry more speed through corners. He's painfully aware of it, but he's so dedicated to his craft and specialty in impressive drifts that he refuses to switch things up.
* ChallengeSeeker: Silvester actively seeks rivals to face him, only feeling happy when he has someone to challenge. It got to the point where he was feeling discouraged and dejected from having no viable opponents.
* {{Fanboy}}: The entire team is made out of S-chassis fanboys, and it shows, but no one can top Satoshi Hoshino in that regard: he talks almost exclusively about Silvia [=S13s=], leading others to barely interact with him as a result.
* FriendlyRival: Yuichi has one in fellow team leader Toshio Kabaya, who leads Gesellschaft and aims to become a professional racer just like him.
* GracefulLoser: Yuichi takes his losses surprisingly well in ''Street Supremacy'', especially when defeated for the lead of the team or by a player aiming to disband Fine Drive. It probably ties into his belief of ThereAreNoCoincidences, meaning there is no reason for him to react badly.
* GoalInLife: Yuichi's goal through-out the series is to become a professional racer: he decided to use the Metropolitan Expressway as a training ground and eventual springboard from which to launch himself into better things. In ''Street Supremacy'''s continuity, he's eventually approached by scouts from various teams, but that's all players are made aware of.
* ItsAllMyFault: Yuichi will blame himself for the team's defeat and forceful disbanding if the player is a member of Fine Drive in ''Street Supremacy''.
* TheResenter: Katsunori clearly resents Satoshi for having claimed the title of "strongest driver of two-liter engines" for himself. Not only that is a title that Katsunori proclaimed for himself, in his eyes, but he also thinks of himself as the better driver of the two. That Satoshi beat him in battle when he tried to back up said claim only caused more resentment.
* TechnicianVersusPerformer: Although discussed within the team, as they're known for their drifting skills, Toshinobu Kurosawa has this debate with himself. He actually learned to moderate his drifting to better suit his running style, allowing him to improve massively, but he feels like this has put him at odds with his team, who don't deem him as "truly drifting". As such, he will pull out some unneccessarily flashy drifts every once in a while for their sake, even though it might cost him a race or two.
* ThereAreNoCoincidences: Seems to be a team-wide belief, judging by everyone's comments in ''Street Supremacy''. Yuichi represents this concept the most, though, as he constantly repeats how there are no coincidences about the people everyone meets in ''Street Supremacy''. He'll say this ''a lot'', be it to a player on his team, a player who eventually defeats him to become Fine Drive's leader, or a player on an opposing team.

to:

* LoveCannotOvercome: Kazuo's wife abandoned him by ''Import Tuner Challenge'' because he could not give up street racing.
* TechnicianVersusPerformer: Like others, the team is roughly split in half between "grippers", those who prefer a grip-focused, straightforwards set-up, and "drifters", who prefer the flashier, looser style. Team leader Kazuo Kasai, [[TakeAThirdOption who changes approach depending on the situation]], often worries about the split, fearing it might cause more trouble than its worth.
* StrongAndSkilled: Team leader Kazuo Kasai is both "overwhelmingly" talented and experienced, enough to be capable of effortlessly leading the entire team through sheer respect from his performance as a street racer.

This is not just a case of AI scaling: in spite of belonging to "lesser" teams or being "casual" Wanderers, those opponents will have a car with better tuned parts. It gets particularly egregious when their bios state the absence of specific tune-ups that, in reality, their cars do have.

One of the two first teams the players will face on the C1 Loop Outer, Curving Edge is exclusively made up of Honda drivers financed by their leader, "Highway Prince" Kōshō Fujima.

* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Takaaki Kainai earned the moniker of "Professor Taka" through this method.
* Determinator: Professor Taka suffers from a life-threatening illness. By all accounts, he should be doing anything other than racing at hundreds of miles per hour, but he does just that in spite of his condition.

One of the two first teams the players will face on the C1 Loop Outer, Curving Edge is exclusively made up of Honda drivers financed by their leader, wealthy scion "Highway Prince" Kōshō Fujima.

* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Takaaki Kainai was brought on-board by Kōshō specifically because of his "advanced driving theory", one he developed after much trial-and-error. He later begun videotaping his teammates' races, holding lessons for them over their replays. This clinical approach is what earned him the moniker of "Professor Taka" through this method.
to begin with.
* Determinator: CannotSpitItOut: Noriko has been crushing on Kōshō for a while, but in spite of everything, she cannot bring herself to confess her feelings towards him. It mostly boils down to her past days before she joined Curving Edge, when her former team imploded on itself due to a similar relationship.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Akiichirō's bio in ''Zero'' hints at a particularly troubled family life he flat-out refuses to talk about. It still has enough of an emotional impact that it's reflected in his driving, particularly his quick judgement calls and "unbelievable" mistakes, as well as his refusal to hang out with his teammates.
* TheDeterminator:
Professor Taka suffers from a life-threatening illness. By all accounts, he should be doing anything other than racing at hundreds of miles per hour, but he does just that in spite of his condition.condition.
* TheFriendsWhoNeverHang: Akiichirō, in spite of being a member of Curving Edge, prefers to run by his lonesome and admire the starry night at various PAs scattered through-out Tokyo. It's particularly jarring given the close relation the rest of the team seems to enjoy, in particular the ones with Kōshō.
* GameplayAndStorySegretation: Highway Prince's bio in ''Zero'' states how all the money on his Integra went into body parts, losing seventy kilograms of weight in the process. A quick look at his car's tune-up will prove otherwise, as he has parts on par with some New Belt Line racers.

Added DiffLines:

* WithFriendsLikeThese: Kōji and Hidekazu, in spite of being on the same team, tend to constantly butt heads due to their differing philosophies -- the former putting all his focus on cornering technique, whilst the latter believes races are decided on the straights. Kōji being the second-in-command whilst Hidekazu is the newest member of the team might have an hand in this dynamic.

* AchillesHeel: Nakajima's personality and lack of finality are the main hindrance towards him becoming a very notable driver.

** Likewise, Makitoshi became deadset on making it back to the world of rallying sometime around ''3'', to the point that no matter what, he will try again and again. No matter how the player performs against him in ''Import Tuner Challenge'' -- losing, winning, beating him multiple times, he'll always reiterate how he'll return to rallying no matter what.

* MirroringFactions: To Another Star: both are rally-oriented teams with backgrounds in rally, both have female second-in-command, both race for supremacy on the New Belt Line, both had two members who left, both have "junior" versions of one another in Tri Edge and The Pleiades. The sole difference is Top Level having one more member than Another Star.

to:

* ICouldaBeenAContender: Makitoshi is an interesting play on the trope: he did become a professional driver in the rallying world, but his results were so lacklustre he pulled out shortly afterwards, becoming a street racer to make up for it. A decade after, though, he still thinks he could've made it, and desperately tries to make it back to the rallying world. As a result of his past shortcomings, though, he can't find a sponsor.

Pleiades: cherry on top, the teams had a Romeo and Juliet deal going on at one point with two of their members. The sole difference is Top Level having one more member than Another Star.Star.
* MysteriousPast: No one really knows much about Yamazaki: she just showed up out of the blue one day and quickly earned her spot on Top Level. There were some rumors that she belonged, or used to belong, to another team, but those went nowhere.
* OldFriend: Makitoshi and Suzuki have long been friends, dating to long before they became rally drivers. When Suzuki retired from rallying, it was Makitoshi who left an invitation to join him in the world of highway racing, leading to the formation of Top Level. Interestingly, it's Suzuki who is the more off-the-cuff of the two personality-wise, as he left the rallying world feeling he had accomplished everything he could and takes pride in what Top Level as achieved, whereas Makitoshi, after years, wants to go back to the rally world he feels like he was forced out of. The opposite applies to their racing styles: Makitoshi, although incredibly consistent, excels in slipping around traffic and gets really fired up against multiple opponents, whereas Suzuki is a lot more straightforwards.

to:

* FriendlyRival: In spite of the fierce rivalrly between their teams, Naoto considers Kenji Suzuki a close friend. This, atleast superficially, appears to be one-sided, as Suzuki underestimates Obata and deems himself faster.
* LudicrousMeleeAccuracy: Of the CarFu variety: Obata is capable of setting up empty cans on the road and striking them all down ''in quick succession'' via drifting. A skill that, apparently, ''he never practiced once in his life''. That he does it to show off makes it only more ludicruous.

to:

* TheDeterminator: As revealed in ''Import Tuner Challenge'', Suzuki is both a believer and a pratictioner of this philosophy. He will encourage the player to not give up after defeating them, noting that every defeat serves as useful experience. If challenged afterwards, he will note how never giving up is the most important thing a racer can do. If challenged after defeating him, he will try to hype himself up, declaring how it isn't over and he isn't done with the player.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Seiko Motogi is, like all other team members, talented in racing, but his go-to style of quick steering is a danger on public roads. Making things worse is how his blocking is no different from actively obstructing the road and being a moving chicane, further putting his opponents at risk. Suzuki actively chided him for both things on multiple occasion.
* GracefulLoser: Suzuki will gracefully handle his defeat against the player in ''Import Tuner Challenge'', asking for them to see their quest to the end no matter what.
* HeManWomanHater: Kenji Suzuki, surprisingly enough, reveals himself to be this in ''3'', being worried over the rising amount of women in his team... of which there are a grand total of ''three''. ''One of whom is his second-in-command''. He doesn't have an issue with women... if they're not driving. He doesn't like racing alongside them or with them.

The sole difference is Top Level having one more member than Another Star.
* RetiredBadass: Tarmac Suzuki was a former rally driver with good results. He left that world to become a street racer.
* TheRival: The entire team has a strong rivalry with Another Star: part of it is due to personal reasons, adverse relationships, competitiveness and different approaches, part of it is due to the natural rivalry between Lan Evo and Impreza.
** The two team leaders, Suzuki and Obata, are direct rivals to one another. Suzuki takes the rivalry with more ease, believing himself to be faster.
** the two second-in-command, Maki Wakabayashi and Yōko Uehara, are also direct rivals to one another. Uehara is the more skilled of the two, but Wakabayashi carries herself with more confidence and swagger, believing herself to be prettier than Yoko.
** Seiko Motogi and Koji Miura gradually developed their rivalry when the latter insulted the former's driving motivation and found him to be "drunk on tragedy".
** Tomio Makitoshi and Gou Fujike are considered rivals: Tomio, however, doesn't think the same way, believing they're on different technical levels.
* TookALevelInBadass: Maki Wakabayashi started off as a junior in college who'd borrow her boyfriend's car to race. Already talented in her own right, as she became Suzuki's second-in-command, she constantly improves game after game, with a noticeable uptick in ''3'', when she buys her own Lan Evo and is free to tune it as she wishes.
* WeCanRuleTogether: After the player runs roughshed over every other team member in ''Import Tuner Challenge'', Suzuki will briefly muse on how he'd invite them to join Top Level, only to realize that the player isn't looking for that and challenging them.
* WhatIsThisFeeling: Seiko Motogi gradually awakens to the allure and emotions brought on by highway racing across the entire series, something he notices around ''3'' and feels conflicted about. He's accepted it by the time of ''Import Tuner Challenge''.

This extends to his family: the Fujimas are outrageously rich, which allows him such a massive berth over spending, but they're a bit detached from the world outside that, to the point they accidentally caused Kōshō to think money grows on trees.

to:

* TeamDad: Ichiro often serves as the mediator for other team members whenever disputes arise, calming everyone down and finding solutions. Mikami and Eto's constant fighting would've made the team fall apart by now if Ichiro wasn't there to hold everything together, making him more of a leader than Kyohei. Unlike typical Team Dads, however, he's very warm and human towards others, adding in a touch of TeamMom.
* FriendshipFavoritism: In contrast with the rest of the team, Kyohei ''adores'' Tetsuji, loving him like a little brother and focusing all of his attention on him. This causes Mikami to browbeat Kyohei for playing favorites, causing Tetsuji to stand up for their leader, leading to a vicious cycle that risks destroying the team -- if it hasn't.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: No one besides Kyohei even remotely tolerates Eto. Toru believes Eto to be the key source of drama and dissension within the team.
* TheFriendsWhoNeverHang: Masaaki has reportedly known Kyohei for years beforehand. In spite of that, he's rarely seen with the rest of the Black Knights, and prefers to either run alone or go skirt-chasing.

No one knows a thing about him, not even team members closest to him like Etō, he just gives out orders and everyone follows thanks to his money and charisma.
* MysteriousPast: On paper, Kyōhei is the president of a trading company specializing in antiques. In practice, his real job is completely unknown, and all sorts of rumours abound on his past, including his being a former test driver.
* OnlyFriend: Kyōhei is the only member of the team to openly treat Etō well, almost like a younger brother. Every other member of the Black Knights looks down on him due to his haughty personality.
* TheRival: Etō and Mikami cannot stand each other: the former finds the an arrogant lackey with no skill and cannot stand how he tries to browbeat the team leader, whilst the latter finds the former's personality unbearable.
* WeAreStrugglingTogether: The logical result of a mercenary team -- team members (mostly) respect Kyohei and follow him through raw charisma, but they're constantly bickering and fighting one another.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Norio Hashimoto joined the team after being starstruck by Kyohei's charisma. As such, although he isn't the fastest or the best, he constantly strives to improve to finally be noticed and get his approval.

A long-standing team formed by a close group of friends from the capital, '''Tokio Jungle''' members drive a mish-mash cars, from high-powered four-wheel drive vehicles to rear-wheel drive mountain pass carvers. With a long queue of new drivers wanting to join, however, the original seven members currently keep invitations closed.

Spontaneously born long ago by the will of several Skyline GT-R drivers, Free Way are a tight-knit unit who believe they are driving the very representation of Japan: as such, they do not take any mockery against their cars lightly. They're treated with hostility by most other teams due to their rough driving and arrogant, "exclusivist" behaviour.

The Yang to the Yin, the tiger to the dragon, the opposite to Top Level: just like them, all members of '''Another Star''' have varying backgrounds in rally, and just like them, this team aims for the top of the New Belt Line. The key difference is the car at the center of this team, the Subaru Impreza. As the years pass, Another Star continue to polish their technique and reach new levels of speed, all in a bid to finally overcome their rivals for good.

to:

To be frank, nothing much is known about Speed Box. They were one of the original twenty teams of the Tokyo Expressway, and all members drove Honda NSXs. What they're most famous for, though, is for being the first team to violently break apart: from its ashes, one of Speed Box's member would go on to create his own team on the Wangan Line.
For tropes regarding SPEED BOX the Wanderer, see here.

to:

Another one of the original twenty teams of the Tokyo Expressway, the '''Cupid Arrows''' are an all-female, if not ''the original'' all-female racing team. When first formed, most of its members were not intrinsically familiar with the ins and outs of racing, but over time, their level has risen to admirable levels alongside their seriousness. For the few members that still lack that high level of knowledge, yet brazenly race down the Expressway each night... well, they say they're far braver than any men around.

Incredibly long-lived, now on its seventh generation of members, '''RINGS''' are business-minded, leaving small space for small talk and playfulness. They're considered amongst the top teams of the Tokyo Expressway, and for good reason: any prospective applicant to join the team needs to defeat ''every other member'' before they're handed the stickers.
\\\
This approach to recruiting is also reflected in a team-wide philosophy, if not ''de facto'' policy: for a RINGS member, winning through raw power is nothing short of insulting. To prove one's superiority, members tend to detune their cars' engine down to a mere eighty percent of their full power, confident that their skills will have them see every battle through.

* Shimizu Kogo signed up for university and joined the Galaxy Racers shortly before the events of ''3''. As such, he's still learning the ropes and doing things no experienced driver would do, such as constantly redlining his car. In spite of all this, he has the reputation of a "terrible rookie", capable of beating an R32 under the right circumstances.

* EasterEgg: By driving the same car as a team's leader with that team's stickers placed on it, the player will receive a new, team-exclusive name.

The recurring, most iconic team of the entire series, Rolling Guy started out as a team of mountain pass racers that, against all logic, decided to make the jump to highway racing. Every member drives a Toyota AE86, relying on their cars' handling capabilities and their own skills over brute acceleration and top speed.
\\\
In spite of being perenially at the bottom of the Expressway's hierarchy, Rolling Guy refuse to give up and continue to race undeterred, something that earns them their rivals' respect. They've been present in every game of the ''Tokyo Xtreme Racer'' series, to the point that they're near synonymous with it.
\\\
As for their appearances in the ''Drift'' trilogy, the team utilizes a different sticker and goes under the name of Downhill Guy. Tropes in this folder encompass all of Rolling Guy's incarnations.

One of the two first teams the players will face on the C1 Loop Outer, Curving Edge is exclusively made up of Honda drivers financed by their leader, "Highway Prince" Kōshō Fujima.

* MeaningfulName: The team is named after the "peculiar" slash-like cornering of their cars compared to other models due to their drivetrains.

!!!'''Team Members''': "Founder First Star" Kyō Takahashi ☆, "Heaven's 4 Door" Jun'ichi Kimura, "Black Rain" Sanpei Sugiyama, "Shutokou Red Flash" Takahiro Eguchi, "Sports Car Killer" Akira Shimamoto, "Originator First Star" Torakichi Yamada, Akira "Chemical" Itō (from ''2'' onwards), "Excite Carmine" Hajime Tsurumi (from ''2'' onwards)
A long-standing team whose members all drive four-door sedans, constantly working to draw out their "hidden inner potential", SS Limited have survived through many eras of the street racing world and have gone through many phases. Stagnation, change of leadership, growth, stabilization... their most recent challenge is the team's aging members: the clock ticks as they race to find worthy successors and pass the torch of sedan racing to them.

'''ELEGANT WILD'''

A loose association of racers valuing each member's individuality, Elegant Wild wasn't exactly a team in the most traditional of senses beyond sharing stickers and recognizing a common leader. In spite of their uncoordinated choice of vehicles, individual members were always thought to have a relatively high amount of ability behind the steering wheel.
\\\
The team dissolved with no reason or mention after the events of Zero, with a sole member still running on the Tokyo Expressway... and the mountain passes of Japan. For more information on him, see White Revolution's entry here.

This has earned him the nickname of "Car Somélier".

ChefOfIron: Yuji Nishitani, Sukeyuki Saeki and Pierre Tanaka are, respectively, the chef, apprentice chef and patissier of La Libertè, and all three are active street racers. Of the lot, however, only Tanaka is recognized for his skills in the latter.
* RealMenCook: FoundFamilyViaWork
* FrenchCuisineIsHaughty: La Libertè, the restaurant which employs the entire team, is a French-style bistrot with an impressive wine selection and a short-tempered chef at its employ. It's definitely not a cheap establishment to eat at, judging by how much money the team has to throw around on an expensive hobby like cars and how they're planning to open two more locations in Nagoya and Osaka in ''Import Tuner Challenge''. Bonus points for having an half-French apprentice chef.
* LetsFightLikeGentlemen

* MeaningfulName: The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is considered one of the world's greatest wine-producing estates. Shuhei Kijima, whose street name is derived from it, is an extremely renowned wine somelier.

* RedBaron: Shuhei Kijima, on top of his street name of "Romanée-Conti", is also known in some circles as "Car Somèlier" thanks to his encyclopedic knowledge of wines and cars.
* TookALevelInBadass: Knife & Forks gradually grow better through-out the entire series: they start off as very early game opponents in ''2'' and ''Zero'', usually the third or fourth team players defeat, before upgrading their cars and moving to Yokohane in ''3'', where they're noticeably tougher. They've switched their original cars out for high-performing ones in ''Import Tuner Challenge'', becoming a late-game team in the process. InUniverse, the team has always been held back by their gentlemanly manners and complete lack of hostility between its members: Masayuki Miura, the team's leader, noticed these flaws and realized that this approach was becoming unsubstainable, which caused him to put down an ultimatum to improve. It clearly seems to have paid off.

* HopelessSuitor: Toshiya hopelessly carries a torch for fellow team mate Akiya, knowing full well he has no chance of winning her over. If ''Street Supremacy'' is canon, that is exactly what happened soon after he became the team's leader.

* TheMentor: Kenji Akibara mentored Kazuto Miyama and Masanobu Shīna, teaching them everything he knew about cars, tuning, and racing.

* PointyHairedBoss: Toshiya Nishiura was not expected to be made the new leader after Akibara, nor was he expecting it himself. As such, he finds himself wholly unprepared on all accounts, too distracted by his crush on a fellow team member to get things together.

* PassingOfTheTorch: Kenji Akibara, first leader of the team, handed the reigns over to Toshiya Nishiura after leaving the university. In spite of that, he remained a supportive member of the Galaxy Racers until the team dissolved.
* TheRival: Rena Okamoto has one with "Midnight Blue" Kazuyuki Inakoshi due to his obsession with her best friend. As such, the two clash frequently in defense and in pursuit, respectively, of Akiya.

* TakeAThirdOption: Kenji Akibara, then leader of the team, was expected to pick one of his two students, Kazuto Miyama and Masanobu Shina, to succeed him when it became apparent he was going to step down. Akibara was of the same idea, until he noticed how much Kazuto and Masanobu were arguing and fighting for who'd get the spot. Fed up with it, he decided to pick neither and hand the leader position to Toshiya Nishiura, a complete outsider. This, of course, lead to everyone else disagreeing, and lead to further in-fighting.
* WeAreStrugglingTogether: Nishiura being chosen to lead the team split it into three separate camps: those who agreed with former leader Akibara's choice, those who had backed Miyama for the spot, or those who backed Shina as leader.

AwesomenessByAnalysis: Michika Sano trusts data and numbers above any feeling. She always keeps a laptop on his passenger's seat to record driving data, get directions, and tune his car's electronics on the fly
* FireForgedFriends: As they were brought together artificially, on top of their strong individual personalities, the team didn't gel together for years. In spite of that, they continued to stick together and never really dissolved, and by the time of ''Import Tuner Challenge'', they've become very close with one another.
* FriendOnTheForce: Team leader used to be a well-known police officer, if not a downright influential one according to rumors. He still gets real-time information on traffic jams, accidents, and construction work from his former co-workers, which reportedly gives him an edge in races.
* {{Irony}}: Team leader, as a policeman, used to get into high-speed chases. He resigned after being moved to a desk job to continue being in high-speed chases, this time as a street racer.
* MoralityChain: Team leader has his unseen family as this: whenever he thinks of doing something reckless, thinking of them is enough to deter him.

Ten years before the events of the series, one of the men who'd go on to become one of the Four Devas helped create the team that'd become '''True Ride''' under encouragement from his friends. Vanishing in thin air, the team returned from a long hiatus after the Devas were defeated, with the objective to reclaim their place amongst the fastest teams on the Shutokou.
