The adopted human son and imperial heir of Poseidon Nero. Like Shiki, Shura is a gravity user who was mentored by Ziggy for a short time, but his lonely and unloving upbringing under his father has turned him into a cruel, wild, and violently insane deadbeat. When the Empire faces a robot uprising at Ziggy's hands, Shura spearheads a war against the Demon King that threatens all machines living in the Aoi Cosmos.

Shura is a self-proclaimed master of "Satan Gravity", the same Gravity Ether Gear that Shiki uses. Where they differ is in its application: whereas Shiki specializes in changing his personal gravity, Shura prefers to manipulate the gravity of objects, turning anything around him into a weapon.

[[folder:Tropes revealed after Chapter 221 '''(SPOILERS)''']]
!!Poseidon Shura (Universe Zero)

The Shura of Universe Zero, where he has become Emperor of the Aoi Cosmos after his father stepped down from the throne.
----
* BenevolentDictator: He's a SketchySuccessor to Emperor Nero who reacts impulsively to the [[EarthShatteringKaboom Foresta crisis]], and nearly takes drastic action that would see all robots in the Aoi Cosmos dead. That aside, he genuinely tries to do right by his subjects, and is said by his father to have helped the Empire prosper since taking up the throne.
* TheEmperor: In this Universe, Shura has taken over from his father as ruler of the Empire. Unlike the EvilOverlord he would've become in the previous world, however, this Shura turns out to be a BenevolentDictator. He ceases to be this when he abolishes the Empire and forms the Aoi Cosmos Republic.
* HeelFaceTurn: The CosmicRetcon flips Shura's personality on its head, turning him from one of Shiki's most hated enemies into a trustworthy ally.
* NeverMyFault: Once Müller--the head of the imperial science department in this Universe--is ousted as a traitor who framed Xenolith, Shura angrily demands to know who's responsible for hiring him in the first place. Ijuna gives him an earful for this, reminding Shura it's his own fault as Emperor for not paying more attention to his human resources.
* SlasherSmile: He flashes a maniacal smile when he invites Shiki into helping him kill Xenolith right when it seems they've struck up a friendship, making it appear for all his improvements, he's still an uncompromising, bloodthirsty killer at heart. However, it quickly turns out there's no malice behind his smile; he's simply eager to kill Xenolith personally so he won't have to resort to using the All-Link System and get all of the Aoi Cosmos's robots caught up in the crossfire.

* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: As the new Emperor of the Aoi Cosmos, he takes a direct approach to dealing with Foresta's destruction by personally leading a manhunt on Sandra for Xenolith, the apparent culprit, intending to take the fight straight to Oasis when they're believed to be sheltering him.
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: {{Downplayed}}. Shura is openly engaged to Ijuna, but gets angry when Nasseh calls her his bride, since they technically haven't wedded yet.
* SketchySuccessor: While this world's Shura is a well-meaning BenevolentDictator, he's still a reckless, irresponsible BloodKnight whom Nero predicts will become a tyrant without intervention, while his ascension prompts Laguna to form Oasis because they don't trust a "spoiled rich kid" to effectively run a government. -->''"What about me? Does '''my''' life carry weight in your mind?"''

* BadBoss: When Shura is put in commande of the imperial army, he treats his own soldiers the same way he treats anybody else: by turning them into bloody paste when they rub him the wrong way or don't follow his orders. * BondVillainStupidity: During their rematch in the Nero 66 arc, Shura impales Shiki with his Heavy Lance and leaves him writhing in pain. Rather than finish him off, Shura figures he's as good as dead and heads off to activate the All-Link System, which gives Shiki the chance to make his counterattack.
* BreakTheHaughty: He spends the majority of the Nero 66 arc completely self-assured in his superiority over Shiki, as well as his victory over Ziggy and Nero, but that all comes crashing down when [[spoiler:he gets OutGambitted by Nero and is soundly defeated by Shiki's ultimate Black Sky attack]].

* DisproportionateRetribution: His response to any minor slight against him is to senselessly kill and/or torture whoever it was that insulted him. Case in point, when Shiki refuses Shura's friendship, he goes straight for the Four Shining Stars, maiming Sister and Hermit while taking Witch hostage, just to see the look of anguish and fury on Shiki's face.

* EstablishingCharacterMoment: In his first scene, he's seen in the company of two women while confronting a new call girl for failing to reply the other night. Instead of punishing her, he drops the other women straight to the ceiling when they tell him not to pick on her, killing them with a SickeningCrunch. As the new girl stares up at their [[GoryDiscretionShot off-screen remains]] in horror, Shura tells her he has plenty of women to spare because he owns everything in the cosmos, [[RainOfBlood letting the pair's blood pour down all over him]]. This all establishes him as a RoyalBrat, a PoliticallyIncorrectVillain, and an AxCrazy maniac.

* EvilIsPetty: He takes just about any excuse he can to squash lives and get what he wants, no matter how insignificant. * EvilVsEvil: He sets himself up in a BigBadEnsemble position to try and upstage Ziggy, the incumbent BigBad, with Shura plotting to use Nero 66's All-Link System and destroy all the Aoi Cosmos's robots at once, and figuring that Ziggy plans to use the same system to take control of them and start a RobotWar.
* FalseFlagOperation: After the events of the Foresta arc, where Ziggy infects Foresta's robots with a computer virus to start an uprising, Shura makes a public statement that the virus has spread to other planets in the Aoi Cosmos, giving him cause to purge the Aoi Cosmos of all robots. As Hermit susses out, it's all lies: Ziggy hadn't made a move since Foresta, and the other "uprisings" that Shura has just suppressed were really massacres of innocent bots to use as a PretextForWar.

* GambitRoulette: Shura's goal of crushing Ziggy and taking over the Empire hinges entirely on the chance that Ziggy would launch a direct attack against Nero on the Temple in time for the All-Link System to be operational, rather than go straight for the ALS on Nero 66 to take control of the Aoi Cosmos's robots, so Shura can nuke them both. [[spoiler:The whole plan turns out to have been doomed from the start, however, as not only does Shura vastly underestimate his father's ability to fight Ziggy, but Nero uses an Ether Gear that Shura never knew he had to send all the bombs to his son's location.]]

* {{Jerkass}}: Taking all of his homocidal tendencies out of the equation, Shura is still a grade-A douchebag who gets his kicks from making others suffer.

!!!'''Debut:''' Chapter 118 (Manga)
!!!'''Ether Gear:''' [[GravityMaster Satan Gravity]]
->''"Don't get it twisted. Women are a Glee a dozen. And everything in this cosmos belongs to me."''

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Tropes #-K]]
* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: Shura is so universally hated by the people of Aoi that public opinion for the Empire tanks to record lows once Nero puts him in charge of dealing with the robot uprising. This is to say nothing of his subordinates, who only follow him out of fear, and promptly abandon him when things take a hairy turn. [[spoiler:{{Subverted}} when Ijuna genuinely develops feelings for him after getting freed from the self-brainwashing that caused her to fall for him, making her the one person in the Empire to think anything positive about him.]]
* AbsoluteXenophobe: He takes FantasticRacism against robots and androids to its furthest extreme by ordering the genocide of every living machine in the Aoi Cosmos. While he publicly claims it's to avert the RobotWar that Ziggy is trying to start, he plainly spells out in private to Shiki that the only machines humans need are the non-sentient ones, making it clear that his war is just a front for exterminating what he considers to be an inferior race.
* AdoptedIntoRoyalty: Nero took the human Shura on as his son and heir according to the will of his Empire Dice.
* AdoptionAngst: He absolutely ''despises'' his adoptive father, who [[ParentalNeglect never showed him any love]], which motivates him to [[TheStarscream plot his assassination]] to get him out of his hair for good. [[spoiler:When Nero sends all of the bombs Shura planned to kill him with straight to his son's location, Shura disregards the threat as a bluff because he refuses to accept being outsmarted by his father.]]
* AlasPoorVillain: [[spoiler:After spending nearly all of his appearances being a psychotic, unpleasant, and irredeemably evil piece of garbage, he goes out with a humanizing death scene where Ijuna's choice to be TogetherInDeath with him [[VillainousBSOD drives him to tears]], realizing too late that a monster like has the capacity to love and be loved by somebody, even if that somebody never would have loved him if he didn't drive her mad in the first place.]]
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Shura is built up as someone more powerful than either Shiki or Ziggy, having a [[TheGift natural talent]] for gravity that he practically trained himself from scratch, and boasting a fine balance of [[StrongAndSkilled skill and strength]] that Shiki lacks. This becomes a non-factor by the time they actually meet, however, as Xenolith has put Shiki through roughly [[YearInsideHourOutside 35 days worth of training in one week]] to level the playing field. As for Ziggy, [[spoiler:it's certainly {{subverted}} as Shiki has to undergo another three years of training just to get his Overdrive to match Ziggy's base level of power]].
* AmbiguousStartOfDarkness: The precise details of what transformed Shura from [[UsedToBeASweetKid a seemingly ordinary boy]] to a [[PsychopathicManchild wicked and insane manchild]] are not given. All that's made for sure is that he spent his entire life unloved by anyone--least of all [[ParentalNeglect his own father]]--until he snapped, with the implication that [[TheDarkSide dark gravity]] had something to do with it.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: When Shiki asserts that all lives carry weight and shouldn't be treated as lightly as Shura does, he suddenly chokes on his words when Shura--who'd just tortured Witch to within an inch of her life and is plotting to rid Aoi of all robots--replies with a simple question:
-->''"What about me? Does '''my''' life carry weight in your mind?"''
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: He fancies himself as the "king of gravity" due to his raw power and natural aptitude for Gravity Ether Gear, even though his only formal training in the [[FantasticFightingStyle Magimech Arts]] was from a single session as a child under Ziggy. Besides that, his fighting style mainly consists of simply lifting and crushing things, and he lacks the SemanticSuperpower that users of "true" gravity have. [[spoiler:He's ultimately bested by Shiki's Black Sky, the ultimate Magimech technique passed down by Xenolith, which Shura never knew about.]]
* AxCrazy: Shura is a violently unstable fellow prone to acts of extreme violence and graphic homocide over seemingly trivial details.
* BadBoss: When Shura is put in commande of the imperial army, he treats his own soldiers the same way he treats anybody else: by turning them into bloody paste when they rub him the wrong way or don't follow his orders. He's especially prejudiced against the army's mechanical soldiers, seen when he kills the Oceans' TokenRobot soon after being put in charge of the team, and sending an army of {{Robot Soldier}}s he'd planned to scrap on a SuicideAttack against their wills.
* BefriendingTheEnemy: {{Inverted}}. Shura, a villain, asks Shiki to be ''his'' friend--rather than the other way around, as per the norm with Shiki--after being impressed by him during their first battle. Shiki rejects him because Shura strictly refuses to stop his plans to destroy all robots, which was Shiki's one condition for accepting him as a friend. Shura [[NotGoodWithRejection doesn't take it well]].
* BerserkButton: Shura gruesomely executes a hapless general on the spot for innocently referring to Ijuna as Shura's [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend "consort"]] instead of his secretary.
* BigBadWannabe: Given his strength, connections to Ziggy, and personal animosity with Shiki, he certainly seems poised to become a major antagonist moving forward. [[spoiler:In the end, however, he's so OutGambitted by Nero that his plans to achieve power never would've amounted to anything to begin with, and he dies accomplishing almost nothing of significance besides [[EyeScream pulling out Shiki's eye]] and being Ziggy's UnwittingPawn in his own plans to kill Shiki.]]
* BirdsOfAFeather: [[spoiler:Shura and Ijuna's twisted relationship blooms into true, mutual love when Ijuna realizes that she's just as much of a crazy piece of garbage as he is for falling for the man who killed her father and made her life hell.]]
* BloodKnight: He looks down on Shiki at first for perceived inferiority towards himself, but when Shiki shows he's good enough to keep up in a fight, Shura becomes ecstatic and asks Shiki to be his friend on the spot. Later on, he becomes disappointed when Shiki pushes him into Overdrive, which Shura says now makes their battle into "a boring old fight to the death", showing he'd much rather keep toying with Shiki and making him suffer.
* CardCarryingVillain: He's very well aware of what a black-hearted monster he is, and he relishes that fact at every opportunity with a mile-wide grin, something he throws in Shiki's face when getting lectured over the weight of people's lives.
* TheCasanova: Taken to horrifying extremes. He describes women as "a [[FictionalCurrency Glee]] a dozen", but once he grows tired of the two girls clinging to him, he doesn't simply ditch them, but ''murders'' them to set an example. Not that this stops other girls from clinging to him, either because they don't know how horrendous he is, don't think they'll suffer the same fate, or don't care either way.
* CharacterTics: He has a tendency to puff his cheeks when he's belting out an EvilLaugh or indulging in some EvilGloating.
* TheCoatsAreOff: Shura loses his leather coat when in the final stage of his battle against Shiki on Nero 66 both during and after coming out of [[OneWingedAngel Overdrive]].
* DragonInChief: Shura is left in charge of the Empire's entire military force for the Aoi War while Nero [[OrcusOnHisThrone sits on his throne]] in accordance to the Empire Dice's will to not interfere, and winds up being the most central and active threat the ''Edens Zero'' crew faces. [[spoiler:{{Subverted}} when Nero reveals that Shura was dancing in the palm of his hand the entire time, as the Emperor turns his son's assassination plot against him on its head right as Shura tries carrying it out.]]
* EvenEvilCanBeLoved: [[spoiler:Originally, Ijuna only came to have feelings for Shura because she used her Ether Gear to keep her mind from breaking after Shura's torture. However, Ijuna realizes that her feelings for him didn't go away after Laguna cut the string tying her to Shura, and embraces him knowing that he was UnknowinglyInLove with her. The feeling of being genuinely loved by someone, even though it was someone whom he messed up so badly that she ended up crazy enough to love someone like him, reduces Shura to tears.]]
* EvilCounterpart: Serves as one to Shiki, his exact opposite in many regards besides being a fellow GravityMaster trained by Ziggy and an adopted child under a non-human (grand)father. Shiki is compassionate, uses his gravity to protect and spread joy to his friends, and values lives of everyone whether they're human, machine, good, or evil; on the other hand, Shura is cruel, enjoys figuratively and literally crushing anyone who stands in his way, and values nobody's lives outside his own, least of all the lives of "worthless" things like robots.
* EvilLaugh: He often breaks out into childish cackling, being the gleeful and proud villain that he is.
* EvilGloating: He laces much of his dialog with this, especially when mocking Shiki for his belief that all lives hold weight by reminding him what a monstrous piece of crap he is:
-->''"I did a '''lot''' of damage to that android of yours. It was fun, too. She reacted just like a real human. If I'd had the time, I'd have loved to make her my pet and take her out for walkies. But...that's just not going to happen. The All-Link System will activate any minute now. And all the bots in Aoi are going to die."''
* TheEvilPrince: As Nero's only son and heir, Shura wants to inherit the throne as soon as possible so he can officially claim everything in the Aoi Cosmos as his own. To do this, he wages war on Ziggy by ordering the genocide of all robots in Aoi through the All-Link System, baiting the Demon King into fighting Nero over it to ensure that either Ziggy kills Nero or both kill each other.
* FatalFlaw: {{Pride}} is the worst of his many, many character flaws, as he's so self-assured of his own power, brilliance, and superiority to everyone that he doesn't even entertain the possibility of failure. [[spoiler:Nero winds up seeing Shura's treachery to a mile away because of this, and completely undermines his plan to use his own {{Antimatter}} bombs against him by sending them all back to Shura before he has the chance to detonate them.]]
* FlatEarthAtheist: He lives in an age where CasualInterstellarTravel is a part of everyday life, and he himself boasts superhuman powers from a bygone era, yet he scoffs at the idea that Nero's dice are magical Relics that grant him absolute victory.
* ForTheEvulz: There's no rhyme or reason behind his desire for carnage and absolute control; he simply has all the power and privilege in the cosmos to take whatever he wants, so he takes it.
* GravityMaster: His "Demon King" Ether gives him access to the same gravity powers as Shiki and Ziggy, which he uses in a manner more similar to [[MindOverMatter telekinesis]] by lifting a derelict spaceship out of the ground, ripping individual pieces off a machine, controlling cables and wires like rope to restrain targets, and crunching a boulder into a javelin. He also uses far more brutal methods on people, such as "dropping" people onto the ceiling, crushing them into bloody pulps, and [[spoiler:plucking Shiki's eye right out of its socket]].
* {{Guyliner}}: He wears black eyeliner resembling streams of tears, which he's had even since he was a child.
* HateSink: He is written to be so repulsively evil, being a psychotic and power-hungry prince who carries out grotesque acts of violence far beyond Mashima's usual standards, that it makes even an AllLovingHero like Shiki refuse to be his friend. [[spoiler:This gets {{downplayed}} in his death scene, which shows how pitifully lonely and starved for affection he really was all along.]]
* HatedByAll: Shura stands as one of the most despised characters in-universe. His father has [[ParentalNeglect zero affection for him]], his subjects think [[ZeroPercentApprovalRating he's an incompetent buffoon]], his minions' reactions to working for him range from indifference to outrage to fearful obedience, and [[EvenTheLovingHeroHasHatedOnes Shiki has sworn to never, ever be his friend]]. Even the one who has shown him any love and sympathy, Ijuna, only does so because she's under a delusion induced by her own Ether Gear. [[spoiler:In the end, Ijuna's genuine affection for him after being freed from her Ether Gear's influence [[SubvertedTrope subverts]] this.]]
* TheHeavy: Though Nero is the villain in charge of TheEmpire that the ''Edens Zero'' crew battle in the Aoi Cosmos saga, Shura is the one who spearheads the saga's climactic Aoi War and gets the more [[ItsPersonalWithTheDragon personal interaction]] with Shiki, while Nero spends most of the action [[OrcusOnHisThrone sitting on his throne]] and never meeting the crew face-to-face.
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: [[spoiler:His LoveEpiphany towards Ijuna and subsequent VillainousBSOD wind up humanizing him far too late, as they happen right as Nero 66 is blown to kingdom come with him and Ijuna still on it.]]
* HellBentForLeather: When he's not being a WalkingShirtlessScene, he's wearing a shirtless leather jacket with pants.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:He is killed by the 20,000 {{Antimatter}} bombs he'd planned to use to assassinate Nero, who sends them all straight to Shura's location before Ziggy triggers them himself.]]
* HumanizingTears: [[spoiler:After spending all his time acting like a cruel and black-hearted monster, Shura undergoes a tearful VillainousBSOD when Ijuna concludes that Shura's love for her is genuine and accepts her own love for him without her self-brainwashing, which she asserts is proof that he has a human heart.]]
* HypocrisyNod: He initially mocks Shiki for considering a robot like Ziggy his [[InterSpeciesAdoption grandfather]], but backtracks to point out that he has no room to talk since his own adoptive father is a [[{{Cthulhumanoid}} "monster"]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: He calls Shiki a hypocrite for hesitating to accept Shura's friendship over their clashing beliefs, but then tries to convince Shiki into abandoning his ideals that AndroidsArePeopleToo, wich ensures that Shiki turns him down.
* IJustWantToBeLoved: He dealt with soul-crushing loneliness since he was a child, unloved by his own father and having nobody else to love, which eventually drove him to madness. It's all but stated that he still craves some form of affection from somebody, but realizes his chances of that happening are impossible because of his lust for power and penchant for senseless carnage. [[spoiler:When Ijuna falls in love with him despite it all, he's [[VillainousBSOD reduced to tears]] over getting what he thought a man like himself could never have.]]
* ImprovisedWeapon: Using his [[GravityMaster Gravity Ether Gear]], Shura can use just about any object around him as a weapon. He uses this to his advantage when fighting in the ash fields of Nero 66, which are littered with crashed ships and ammunition he can fling at Shiki, at one point breaking a missile down into individual pieces for an increase in ammunition.
* InterspeciesAdoption: Shura is a human who was adopted by an alien with obvious [[FishPeople fish man]] features like tentacle AlienHair.
* JavelinThrower: His Heavy Lance attack involves crunching a boulder into the shape of a spear with gravity and hurling it at his target, impaling them.
* {{Jerkass}}: Taking all of his homocidal tendencies out of the equation, Shura is still a grade-A douchebag who gets his kicks from making others suffer.
* JustAMachine: He sees no value in the lives of androids, which he proudly and repeatedly demonstrates by sentencing all robots in his cosmos to death, programming a battalion of {{Robot Soldier}}s to perform a suicide attack on Shiki against their wills, and [[ItIsDehumanizing referring to Witch as an "it"]] while putting her through ColdBloodedTorture.
* KickTheDog: When an imperial general [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend mistakes Ijuna for his "consort"]], Shura cruelly crushes him into bloody paste while the general pleads for his life to be spared because [[IHaveAFamily his daughter's wedding his next week]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes L-Y]]
* LackOfEmpathy: By his own admission, he's the kind of person who takes the value of every person's life very lightly, unless that life is his own. It's for this reason that he's able to slaughter people at the drop of a hat.
* LadykillerInLove: [[spoiler:Taken more literally than usual since he actually kills the women he's tired of, but it counts towards Ijuna, who started out as just one of many women he'd take to his torture chamber to have his way with. At some point, Shura started to develop feelings for her, but brushed it off as an effect of Ijuna's Ether Gear, which causes people to fall in love. He finally realizes that his feelings are real when Ijuna reveals her power doesn't work on someone who's never loved or been loved by anyone before, proving that even a monster like him is capable of loving someone else.]]
* LaughingMad: One of the many signs of his mental instability is his tendency to cackle like a maniac when killing or insulting others, usually while puffing his cheeks.
* LetsYouAndHimFight: His best-case scenario for his GambitRoulette in the Aoi War is to coax Ziggy into a fight against Nero over at the Temple so he can nuke them both with his {{Antimatter}} bombs.
* LimaSyndrome: [[spoiler:Shura thought that he only took a liking to Ijuna--the woman he tortured and humiliated in every way possible--because her Ether Gear causes people to fall in love. However, in their final moments, Ijuna reveals that her Ether Gear shouldn't have worked on Shura because he'd never known love before, proving that whatever feelings he had for her weren't created by her Ether Gear.]]
* LoveEpiphany: [[spoiler:After being long convinced that his feelings for Ijuna are just a product of her Ether Gear, Shura realizes with Ijuna's help that he fell in love with her all on his own, since it doesn't work on anybody who has never been loved by anyone.]]
* MadEye: From the point of his introduction, he can hardly go a scene without one of his eyes bulging to show what an unstable madman he is.
* MaouTheDemonKing: Though Shura doesn't use the title himself, his Ether is classified as the "Demon King" type, which gives him [[GravityMaster gravity powers]].
* MaskOfSanity: He's known to be a brutally violent and deeply disturbed man from the get go, but when he's in front of his father and the general populace, he keeps up the appearance of a respectful son and a charismatic politician.
* MeaningfulName: "Shura" is the Japanese name of the [[ReligiousAndMythologicalThemeNaming Hindu demigod of war]]. It can also refer to someone who is in a situation where they must fight endlessly in a relentless and inhuman manner, which matches Shura's personality to a T.
* TheMostWanted: Although he's the adoptive son of one of the Oración Seis Galáctica, who are this by default, Nero is so old that the Interstellar Union Army fears Shura's ascendion to the throne far more than anything the Emperor can do, and thereby prioritizes his elimination above all else in the Aoi War.
* NoBodyLeftBehind: [[spoiler:He gets blasted to atoms by the {{Antimatter}} bombs together with Ijuna in the Nero 66 arc.]]
* NotBad: His first reaction to getting thrown into the air by Shiki and getting punched straight back down into the ground, the first signifier of Shura seeing him as a WorthyOpponent.
* NotGoodWithRejection: A platonic version happens when Shiki rejects Shura's request to be his friend, which Shura takes ''very'' personally, leading him to do everything in his power to make Shiki suffer.
* OhCrap: He practically pisses himself in fear when [[spoiler:Nero reveals he's seen through Shura's plan to betray him, seemingly killed Ziggy against all odds, and sent all of the bombs Shura was planning on using straight back to him, leaving Shura completely OutGambitted.]]
* OneTrueLove: Ijuna insists that Shura is her predestined love bound to her by the RedStringOfFate, even though he's an utter monster who's never known love or how to love others in his entire life. [[spoiler:In a twist, this is completely played straight: Shura had developed LimaSyndrome over the days he spent torturing Ijuna, who had UsefulNotes/StockholmSyndrome for him, triggering her Ether Gear ability that brainwashed her into loving him in the first place. Ijuna's discovery of this causes her to embrace her feelings for him, and they spend their final moments TogetherInDeath.]]
* OneWingedAngel: Shura's Overdrive form gives him various aquatic attributes, most notably Nero's TentacleHair and fish-like scales around his legs, which leaves him far more inhuman-looking.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: After his first bout with Shiki on Nero 66, he spends much of the arc waiting for Shiki to catch up to him while torturing Witch to keep himself entertained.
* OutGambitted: His plan for the Aoi War is to lure Ziggy to the Temple for a deathmatch against Nero in time for the All-Link, and then using the ALS to detonate all 20,000 {{Antimatter}} bombs on the planet with neither of them the wiser. [[spoiler:This scheme goes completely down the drain when Nero not only defeats Ziggy (or so they think), but transports all of the bombs straight to Shura with his [[ThinkingUpPortals Wormhole]], daring his son to trigger them and see if he's bluffing. To rub salt in the wound, Ziggy takes the chance to trigger the bombs himself to kill Shiki, quite literally blowing Shura's plan up in his face.]]
* OverlordJr: His father is TheEmperor of the Aoi Cosmos, yet Shura is far worse: while Nero has a superficially noble desire to protect humankind, Shura feels entitled to owning everything in the cosmos, including people.
* PetTheDog: His decision to give Ijuna a secretarial position implies this, showing that for all his talk about women being expendible, she is the one exception. [[spoiler:This is proven true when it's confirmed he spared her from the horrific torture he put her through because he'd fallen UnknowinglyInLove with her.]]
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: From the moment he's introduced, she's shown to be a massive sexist who treats women as objects, comes up with sickening ways to humiliate and torture them, and murders them without batting an eye when they rub him the wrong way. He's also one of the most bigoted characters towards robots and androids in the series, targeting them specifically because he feels they're worthless. His kidnapping of Witch combines these vices by having him grope her while calling her Shiki's "toy".
* PracticallyJoker: He has a lot in common with ComicBook/TheJoker: he has green hair, he's AxCrazy, he murders people ForTheEvulz, he [[PutTheLaughterInSlaughter laughs at death and mayhem]], and he becomes fixated on making [[TheHero Shiki]] suffer for [[NotGoodWithRejection refusing his friendship]]. Some parts of his design look like they come straight from Creator/JaredLeto's [[Film/SuicideSquad2016 portrayal]], namely the [[DelinquentHair punk hairstyle]], [[CreepyShadowedUndereyes makeup]], and [[TattooedCrook body tattoos]]. [[spoiler:He also has a victim-turned-sidekick who's fallen madly in love with him akin to ComicBook/HarleyQuinn, except Shura's affections for her turn out to be real and not a way to wrap her around his finger.]]
* PsychopathicManchild: On top of being a murderous sociopath, he's also incredibly childish, laughing at the SpaceBattle between his men and the Interstellar Union Army and asking how many died like a little boy watching a fireworks display. He also attacks the Four Shining Stars to get back at Shiki for rejecting his offer of friendship by breaking his "precious toys" like a schoolyard bully would.
* PsychoticSmirk: When he's not wearing a SlasherSmile, he's constantly making this expression to show what an unhinged monster he is.
* APupilOfMineUntilHeTurnedToEvil: As with Shiki, Shura learned his Gravity Ether Gear from Ziggy, and he UsedToBeASweetKid before falling to TheDarkSide.
* ReligiousAndMythologicalThemeNaming: A twofer. The name Shura itself is the Japanese name for Asura, a power-hungry demigod of war found in Hindu and Buddhist mythology, which perfectly suits his nature. Meanwhile, his adoptive family name from the Greek god of the sea, reflecting how his father is Emperor of a cosmos filled with oceans.
* RoyalBrat: Since he's the adopted son of TheEmperor Nero, Shura is absurdly strong and definitely shows some signs of entitlement, to the logical detriment of his underlings.
* {{Sadist}}: He enjoys watching his victims writhing in agony, whether it's putting crushing them into bloody stains with gravity, cutting them up or humiliating them in his torture chamber, or seeing their friends' and loved one's emotional anguish over it.
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: He ''very'' explicitly refers to Ijuna as his "secretary", nothing more, which comes off as odd given his otherwise TheCasanova tendency. [[spoiler:This is because Shura knows Ijuna's feelings for him were only artificially induced by her Ether Gear, so he figures that whatever feelings he has for her must also be fake...until Ijuna reveals that her power worked because he'd fallen in love with her for real and didn't realize it.]]
* ShutUpKirk: Shura responds to Shiki's declaration that all lives carry weight with an ArmorPiercingQuestion, asking if that includes the life of a black-hearted, genocidal scumbag like himself.
* SlasherSmile: As an AxCrazy, [[TheSociopath sociopathic]] dirtbag, Shura makes this expression when he's about to go off and murder somebody.
* SmugSuper: He's totally full of himself as a villain, but seeing as his gravity is powerful enough to stop the ''Edens Zero'' itself in midair, his confidence isn't unfounded.
* TheSociopath: Shura is selfish, entitled, unstable, violent, and remorseless. He also views people as his possessions, and when he tries to reach out to people like Shiki on a personal level, it's mostly just as a means to an end.
* SoreLoser: Shura can't stand the idea of somebody being better than him, least of all his own father, because he never makes any plans while accounting for how they could possibly go wrong. [[spoiler:He nearly gets himself blown up over this by trying to detonate the bombs he was planning to kill Nero with, because he refuses to believe Nero could have OutGambitted him.]]
* TheStarscream: The whole reason Shura arranges the war against robot-kind is to make Nero take the fall and be killed by Ziggy, allowing Shura to take his adoptive father's place as emperor. [[spoiler:Too bad for Shura, Nero sees his treachery coming a mile away, and throws a wrench in his son's plans before Shura gets the chance to act on them.]]
* StrongAndSkilled: As a GravityMaster who's touted as being stronger than either Shiki or Ziggy, Shura shows he has the raw power to stop a warship like the ''Edens Zero'' in midair with a wave of his hand, and the technique to dismantle machines to their base components in a matter of seconds. On top of that, he's quick to point out that just because his gravity works more on objects, that doesn't mean he can't use it on himself as effectively as Shiki can, making him a challenging fighter in hand-to-hand combat as well.
* TattooedCrook: His eyes, chest, shoulders, arms and hands are covered in tattoos, and he's a twisted young prince who kills people in horrific ways without a moment's notice.
* TentacleHair: Shura's Overdrive changes his DelinquentHair into a full head of tentacles just like his adoptive father, Nero.
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: He plans to kill Ziggy and Nero with the Empire's entire stock of 20,000 {{Antimatter}} bombs while they're busy fighting on Nero 1. Any single one of these bombs is enough to reduce a single small planet to dust, and detonating all 20,000 is enough to wipe out a whole planetary sector.
* TogetherInDeath: [[spoiler:By the end of the Nero 66 arc, Shura and Ijuna die embracing each other in the planet's explosion, realizing and accepting that their twisted love for each other is genuine.]]
* TortureTechnician: He makes something of a sick hobby out of torturing captured soldiers of LaResistance, and brings Witch into the mix to get even with Shiki. [[spoiler:Ijuna, formerly the "princess" of Oasis, was one of his favorite victims, as he came up with some sickening methods of torture and humiliation, which included taking her on "walkies" as his naked HumanPet with [[AssShove a bomb shoved up her rectum]].]]
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Shura is so convinced that he's the ultimate GravityMaster that he underestimates how much of a challenge people can give him. He's caught off guard when Shiki puts up a good fight against him, though he takes it very well, knowing he's found himself a WorthyOpponent. [[spoiler:This is especially the case with Nero, whom he pegs as an aging doddard who's weaker fighter than Ziggy, and doesn't expect it when Nero actually appears to kill the Demon King with his own hands.]]
* UnknowinglyInLove: [[spoiler:Shura turns out to be in love with Ijuna, whom he orphaned and turned into his personal plaything before he fell for her and turned her into his secretary. Because he knows what a heartless monster he is, however, he figures that he's just been brainwashed by her Ether Gear, which forces people to fall in love. He only realizes his feelings are genuine after Ijuna explains her powers don't work on someone who's never known love before.]]
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler:Ironically, his plans to kill Ziggy and wipe out all robots in the Aoi Cosmos only wind up working in Ziggy's favor, as Shura and Nero's wrestling over the anti-matter bombs gives Ziggy the weapons he needs to [[StableTimeLoop cause the spacetime distortion that would lead to Shiki's death and his own birth]].]]
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Back when he first learned how to use his Gravity Ether Gear as a little kid, Shura appeared to be just as excitable and innocent as Shiki. Cut to the present day, where he's a psychotic, murderous deadbeat of a prince, likely as a result of falling into [[TheDarkSide dark gravity]].
* VillainHasAPoint: Shura picks apart Shiki's ideology that [[AllLovingHero all life carries weight]], simply by asking if that includes his own life, since he tortured Witch half to death and is out to exterminate all of the Aoi Cosmos's robots--whom Shiki views as [[AndroidsArePeopleToo no less alive than humans]]--purely ForTheEvulz. Shiki doesn't up with any retort to this.
* TheVillainMustBePunished: After bearing witness to the countless lives lost in a war Shura started out of [[JustAMachine contempt for robots]], Shiki declares that people will continue to die as long as Shura's around, which comes across as an ImpliedDeathThreat. [[spoiler:In the end, Shiki doesn't go through with killing him and [[SaveTheVillain even wants to get him off Nero 66 before it explodes]], but with the implication of bringing him to proper justice rather than forgiveness had Shura not slinked off to die on his own.]]
* VillainousBSOD: [[spoiler:He experiences one right before his death when Ijuna permanently embraces her love for him and leads him to a LoveEpiphany, which reduces him to tears over the realization that the heartless monster he's always believed himself to be is capable of loving somebody at all, and that his evil has ironically created the first person in his life to truly love and care for him.]]
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler:Shura loses all the smug confidence he'd built up over the course of the Aoi Cosmos saga when he learns how thoroughly OutGambitted he was by the father he was trying to kill, refusing to accept defeat and nearly getting himself killed in the process. This leaves him blindsided to an attack by Shiki, whom he'd left for dead without bothering to check if he survived, leaving him ranting and raging for the rest of their fight before he's finally defeated.]]
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Shura is introduced completely topless, showing off all the tattoos covering his upper body. He takes to wearing a leather jacket for most of his scenes after that, but doesn't wear a shirt underneath, and goes back to being topless after going into Overdrive.
* WeCanRuleTogether: After Shiki proves himself to be a WorthyOpponent, Shura tries striking up a [[FriendlyEnemy friendship]] with him so they can team up against the BigBad. Shiki hesitates right off the bat, since Shura's method of beating Ziggy is to destroy all robots in the cosmos, but it's only when Shura tries swinging Shiki to his own anti-robot mindset [[{{Hypocrite}} right after promising to "consider" sparing the robots if Shiki accepts]] that Shiki [[ShutUpHannibal firmly shuts him down]].
* WorthyOpponent: He comes to view Shiki as this after Shiki takes him by surprise several times in their fight--first by managing to throw him into the air under the weight of Shura's gravity, and later by showing he's strong enough to overcome his Ether Gear's WeaksauceWeakness to bondage--which gives Shura the idea to [[WeCanRuleTogether make Shiki his friend]]. This sentiment is lost when Shiki rejects him, however.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: [[spoiler:In Shura's final moments, Ijuna reveals to him that the reason her Ether Gear bonded her to him was because he'd fallen in love with her [[UnknowinglyInLove completely despite himself]]. This realization drives Shura to tears, which Ijuna assures is a sign that he has a human heart, and isn't as much of a monster as he thinks he is.]]
