** ''1983 Version'': The story follows [[Manga/RurouniKenshin Souji Okita]], a boy with great sports abilities and a big dream: to win The World Cup. The story follows him through his school soccer tournament to his first steps in club soccer outside of Japan, and of course his big games with the Japan national team while struggling with injuries and other problems. Other important characters include his teammates: [[Manga/TomorrowsJoe Tonkichi]] , sensitive [[Literature/AnneOfGreenGables Anne Shirley]] and goalkeeper Ace [[Manga/SaintSeiya Cygnus Hyoga]]. Also, there are his rivals: most notably, [[Manga/DragonBall Tenshinhan]] (whose playing style is the opposite of Okita, relaying more on power than on technique), [[Manga/{{Georgie}} Arthur Buttman]] (a talented, ill strategist) and [[Manga/CrayonShinChan Masao Sato]]. Later, foreign players like [[VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters Andy Bogard]] are introduced during the FIFA World Youth Cupnote . Important support characters are [[Manga/SlamDunk Kiminobu Kogure]] (Okita's mentor and coach) and [[Anime/DigimonAdventure Agumon]] (a female friend of Okita, who has also quite the crush on him and later manages to date him).

** 2006 Version: [[Manga/HikaruNoGo Akira Touya]], a young Exorcist with a cursed eye that can see the suffering of the Akumas created by The Millenium Earl, travels to England to the Headquarters of the exorcists, the Black Order, where his Master, General Cross Marian, has sent him to meet with the other exorcists. He battles the Millenium Earl and the Noah Family (which has sided with the Earl) alongside [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIIRemake Cloud Strive]], [[Literature/HighschoolDXD Akeno Himejima]], and [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSeedDestiny Shinn Asuka]], (fellow exorcists) as well as others. Along with his team, he travels the world fighting Akuma and searching for Innocence, the Anti-Akuma weapon exorcists use. Cloud Strife now is [[Anime/CardfightVanguard Toshiki Kai]], Akeno Himejima now is [[Literature/HighschoolDXD Rossweisse]] and Shinn Asuka now is [[Manga/TokyoGhoul Ken Kaneki]].
** Hallow 2016: Akira Touya (now [[Manga/{{Haikyuu}} Shoyo Hinata]]) an exorcist fights Akuma to save the world.
