Yuya reflects on advice given to him by Nico Smiley: though he's a good duelist, he's still performing within expectations. To be a great entertainer and duelist, Yuya must surpass his audience's expectations and do something bold and new. Yuya remembers Reiji spoke of something "beyond" Pendulum Summoning, but can't think of what he means by that. At Leo Corporation, Reiji is continuing the refinement of new Pendulum cards, intending to have them perfected for use in an upcoming tournament.

Sora wins his fifth duel in a row as Yuya watches, growing confident in how Fusion Summoning works watching his duels. The two bump into Masumi Kotsu, who accuses Yuzu of knowing something about the Dark Duelist and the attacks on LDS. The mysterious figure behind the attacks confronts Masumi after hearing she's from LDS, and the Dark Duelist intervenes, calling out to the figure as "Shun." Shun refers to the Dark Duelist as "Yuto," and the two argue about Kurosaki attacking LDS members. Yuto incapacitates him when Kurosaki seems to recognize Yuzu as someone else, and when Yuya approaches the scene, Yuzu's bracelet glows and Yuto and Kurosaki vanish. The duelists disperse, Yuya noticing Yuzu's dropped Polymerization card and picking it up.

In the midst of this, Gongenzaka approaches Yaiba Todo, the X-Saber Synchro duelist he faced before, to ask for his aid in some unspoken manner.

!! This episode provides examples of:
* AintTooProudToBeg: Gongenzaka begged Yaiba to teach him Synchro Summoning.
* ComplacentGamingSyndrome: {{Invoked}} when discussed with Smiley's advice to Yuya. Yes, Pendulum Monsters are powerful, but sooner or later people will figure out how to beat them, and audiences will get bored just seeing it over and over, so Yuya should think of a way to advance his strategy further than that.
* OverTheShoulderCarry: Yuto does this to Kurosaki after knocking him unconscious.

Edits made by serial ban evader; Lady Jane Grey was maedar ban evading for the second time. Removing on principle.

* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Masumi was dead-set on finding the mystery man to avenge her teacher. She sure got her wish, times two.

* RewatchBonus: Why did Yuto mistake Yuzu for someone else? It makes a ''lot'' more sense when you've seen the whole story.
* MistakenIdentity: Yuto mistakes Yuzu for Shun, in what is the beginning of a RunningGag that will last the whole series.
