Takes place January 3-10

This is a Renegade episode. Knowledge about the Guardians' tampering causes widespread social unrest on Mars, with many White Martians rising in violent revolt against color-based oppression. Grayven makes some effort at peacekeeping, in hopes of recruiting Martians for his magic study group, and meets Karmang, a surviving partially-modified Burning Martian who is more or less leading the revolt. However, once a peace summit is arranged, Karmang betrays the truce and kills almost all the delegates. The surviving Prelate J'emm takes steps toward settling the conflict, although it will be some time before there is true peace.

* FantasticRacism: The theme of this episode. For all their recorded history, Martians have considered naturally red individuals to be inherently better than greens, who are in turn better than whites. Many offices are open only to reds, and in many places whites are subject to violence and trapped in poverty. Then they suddenly find out that the color differences are merely artifacts of the Guardians tinkering with their DNA.
