Bykov and Kupitman plans to represent their hospital in a poker tournament, where they would compete against the other hospitals... and of course, Kisegach is against the idea. But they're gonna do that anyway. Kupitman, to be able to adhere the tournament, forces Phil to stay in the office, despite previously agreeing to let him go early, as he has a side job as English tutor. Fortunately, his client agrees for do their lesson right in the hospital. But soon after the student, shows up her jealous husband, who predictably thinks that she's cheating on him; them being in venereologist office only reinforces this belief. Yet, Phil still manages to explain that he's American, and he's here as a tutor, not a doctor. After discussing said husband with his student, Phil learns that they're unable to conceive a child, and offers to examine her -- only for husband to appear again and attack Phil. Phil somehow manages to calm him down and explain (but not before having his nose broken), and offers to examine him, too, to find what prevents them from conceiving.

Lyuba is busy, and leaves Rita as her temporal replacement. During her shift, a patient named Malyutin shows up... who, unknowingly to Rita, is deeply in love with her... despite not knowing her name. When he tries to find out more, he asks Lyosha about the "Head Nurse", and predictably receives Lyuba's name. Malyutin then orders flowers for "Head Nurse", which Rita actually receives, but gives them to Lyuba. Alexei then tells Lyuba that she has a secret admirer, who's too shy to tell her directly. Malyutin asks Lyuba... about "Lyuba". Lyuba fails to realise what something is wrong, and instead thinks that it's him being shy, so she plays along, and even invites him on a party that would happen this evening. Maxim, meanwhile, only gathered 2K (out of 30K needed), takes all he has and rushes to Bykov, as that poker tournament is his last hope right now.

Maxim comes with a "genius" scheme how to win the respect of other doctors: interns must organise a banquet for them... which would require 10K roubles per intern. Not having so much money to spare, and not believing in the whole scheme, both Alexei and Sophia refuses to participate. But Max still goes ahead and announces the banquet, and now everyone asks Lyosha and Sophia about it, to their irritation. When asked, Maxim reveals that he has plan "B", which would not require any money, though the benefits are also smaller. All they have to do is to tell Lyuba about the "secret" banquet and ask her to not warn Bykov, then wait for her to do exactly that, out of love for gossips, which would result in Bykov vetoing the whole thing, taking everyone's ire on himself, and Maxim with other interns winning sympathy for attempt alone. Soon afterwards, Maxim learns two things: firstly, Lyuba actively tries to suppress the rumours, precisely because Bykov would ruin everything -- and she doesn't want it; and secondly, Bykov is away from the hospital, to participate in a poker tournament. Max thinks that they may use Kisegach as the party breaker, but turns out that she actually has a good reason to allow that party, as not long ago, Bykov accused her of being fun hater for not allowing him to go on a poker tournament (which he did anyway)...

Comes evening, and party actually starts. Everyone are happy. But one question remains: just how Max obtained the money? Turns out, he somehow defeated everyone, including Kupitman, and then took out Bykov due to great bluff... or, rather, it's the version which Max tells the others. In reality, Bykov didn't fall for his bluff, which cost Max a game, and just loaned him 20K once he learned that the party was sanctioned by Kisegach ("you must reward behaviour you're trying to train") Meanwhile, now drunk Malyutin goes into nursing room with just as drunk Lyuba, still thinking that "Lyuba" is actually Rita. This results in sudden drunk sex -- and him losing interest to Rita and gaining interest to real Lyuba. Only then he learns that he got the names wrong, but he doesn't care anymore.

But they're gonna do that anyway. Meanwhile, Maxim comes up with a "genius" scheme how to win respect of the other doctors: they must throw a banquet for them. But this would require 10K roubles per intern, which Alexei and Sophi neither have nor want to share. Maxim still goes ahead and announces the banquet, which makes everyone ask them about it. When asked why he did that, he says that his plan "B" is promise the banquet, then tell Lyuba about it and wait till she spreads the rumours: once Bykov finds out, he would cancel everything, and people would be angry at him, not interns; it would still win them some points, even if not as much as original plan. The plan quickly backfires, as Lyuba is aware that Bykov can cancel the banquet if he finds out, so she suppresses the rumours, and then turns out that Bykov isn't even in the hospital. Max tries to tell Kisegach, hoping that she would veto the entire thing, but she suddenly supports the idea, thinking that it's her chance to prove to Bykov that she can do fun, too. Maxim, who barely gathers 2K (out of 30K), rushes to Bykov, hoping to earn some money through poker tournament. He does earn it... but not because he'd won (quite the opposite); instead, Bykov loaned him some money, as he likes that Kisegach is in the plan.

** During their lesson, the husband rushes in, and accuses his wife of being a prostitute, who due to cheating on him now needs a venereologist. Now they must somehow explain to him that Phil really is her tutor, not her doctor -- which is not that easy when he stands in a venereologist's office and wears a medical coat. Phil being American only deduces credibility her story has in husband's eyes, because he finds it implausible that any sane man would move to Russian from USA just to become a doctor here. He does believe and apologise for his aggressive behaviour when Phil actually speaks in perfect English.
** When Phil discusses with his student her jealous husband, she mentions her inability to get pregnant. Phil suggests to examine her... only for said husband to appear again right in the middle of the procedure. Phil doesn't even try to explain what's happening, and instead tries to pretend that they're studying; it doesn't work. Fortunately, they manages to convince him by stating the real reason... after jealous husband already broke Phil's nose. Even after this, Phil suggests to examine a husband, too, to see wether he can be the reason for their problem.

Bykov and Kupitman plans to represent their hospital in in poker tournament with other hospitals... and of course, Kisegach is against the idea.

Lyuba is busy, and leaves Rita as her temporal replacement. While Rita worked, one patient (called Malyutin) showed up... who, unknowingly to Rita, is deeply in love with her.

Maxim has a "genius" scheme how to win other doctors' respect: interns must organise banquet for them... which would require 10K roubles per intern, which is "a bit" too much sum for mere intern. Obviously, both Alexei and Sophia refused to participate, leaving Maxim by himself.

Kupitman, to adhere that poker tournament, forced Phil to stay in office, completely ignoring their previous agreement what Phil may leave early because he has side-work as English tutor. Fortunately, woman he teaches agreed to organise a lesson right in the hospital.

Rita's unknown admirer tries to learn more about "Head Nurse" (still thinking it's Rita), and Alexei gave him Lyuba's name.

Maxim, despite his "plan" being rejected, still went ahead and announced that banquet, and now everyone asks Lyosha and Sophia about it, to their irritation. But Max already has "plan B", which would not require any money (even though it would provide less benefits). All they need to do is to warn Lyuba -- who would warn Bykov -- who would ruin the party, making himself a scapegoat and winning them free points without actually bothering to organise a party.

Phil's student finally arrived -- and so her jealous husband, who thinks she cheats on him; her being in venereologist's office, with actual venereologist being presented, only makes this view more plausible. Fortunately, Phil managed to proved what he really is American and said woman's tutor, not her doctor.

Maxim learns what not only Lyuba is actually tries to suppress the rumours out of fear what party would be cancelled, but what Bykov is out of the hospital. Plan is on the edge of failure... though they can use Kisegach instead. Unfortunately, she actually has a reason to allow this party...

Malyuting ordered flowers for "Head Nursy", which Rita even received, but took them to Lyuba. Alexei later warned Lyuba what she has a new admirer, who is just too shy to admit it in her face. When he tried to ask Lyuba... about "Lyuba", and she, instead of realising what something is wrong, played along, also inviting him on the party Max plans to throw. Meanwhile, Max, realising he has no meanings to throw the party due to having only 2K (out of 30K needed) roubles, collected all they have, and rushed to Bykov, who is participates in poker tournament right now. He plans to participate in it.

Phil and his student discussed her jealous husband, and student mentioned their inability to conceive a child. Phil suggested to examine her right now -- only for husband to appear and attack Phil. Fortunately, Phil managed to explain everything (but not before getting his nose broken), and even suggested to examine husband, too.

So, party actually happened. Everything are happy. But one question remains: just how Max obtained money? Turns out, he somehow defeated everyone, including Kupitman, and then took out Bykov due to great bluff. What Maxim didn't told them is what "bluff" part was a lie; Bykov didn't fell for it, costing Max a game, and later just loaned him 20K for party when he learned what Kisegach sanctioned it (since right behaviour of person you tries to "train" must be rewarded). Meanwhile, (now drunk) Malyutin went into nursing room with (just as drunk) Lyuba, still thinking what "Lyuba" is actually Rita. This resulted in sudden drunk sex... and him losing interest in Rita (or "Lyuba"), for actual Lyuba. Only then he learned from Lyosha what woman he lusted after is actually Rita, while Lyuba is woman he slept with, but he doesn't care anymore, since he now knows whom he loves.

that party, as not long ago, Bykov accused her of being fun hater for "Head Nursy", which Rita even received, but took them to Lyuba. Alexei later warned Lyuba what she has a new admirer, who is just too shy to admit it in her face. When he tried to ask Lyuba... about "Lyuba", and she, instead of realising what something is wrong, played along, also inviting not allowing him to go on the party Max plans to throw. Meanwhile, Max, realising he has no meanings to throw the party due to having only 2K (out of 30K needed) roubles, collected all they have, and rushed to Bykov, who is participates in a poker tournament right now. He plans to participate in it.

Phil
(which he did anyway)...

Comes evening,
and his student discussed her jealous husband, and student mentioned their inability to conceive a child. Phil suggested to examine her right now -- only for husband to appear and attack Phil. Fortunately, Phil managed to explain everything (but not before getting his nose broken), and even suggested to examine husband, too.

So,
party actually happened. Everything starts. Everyone are happy. But one question remains: just how Max obtained the money? Turns out, he somehow defeated everyone, including Kupitman, and then took out Bykov due to great bluff. What Maxim didn't told them is what "bluff" part was a lie; bluff... or, rather, it's the version which Max tells the others. In reality, Bykov didn't fell fall for it, costing his bluff, which cost Max a game, and later just loaned him 20K for party when once he learned what Kisegach that the party was sanctioned it (since right by Kisegach ("you must reward behaviour of person you tries you're trying to "train" must be rewarded). train") Meanwhile, (now drunk) now drunk Malyutin went goes into nursing room with (just just as drunk) drunk Lyuba, still thinking what that "Lyuba" is actually Rita. This resulted results in sudden drunk sex... sex -- and him losing interest in to Rita (or "Lyuba"), for actual and gaining interest to real Lyuba. Only then he learned from Lyosha what woman learns that he lusted after is actually Rita, while Lyuba is woman he slept with, got the names wrong, but he doesn't care anymore, since he now knows whom he loves.anymore.

* BatmanGambit: Maxim's "plan B": announce the party; make sure Lyuba would learn about it; wait until Bykov would learn about it from Lyuba and ruins everything preemptively (becoming a scapegoat in process). This way, interns would still win some sympathy -- but without need to actually organise the party. It didn't work, because Lyuba turns out to be more interested in the party than in spreading gossips.

* TheDogBitesBack: Just after his student/patient's violently jealous husband hit him in the face, Phil offered him medical examination... which turns out to be very painful. * HoistByHisOwnPetard: Bykov sponsored Maxim's party to help Kisegach (who agreed with it) "cultivate" right traits (so she stops being boring bureaucrat); she actually liked it so much, she plans another event with her new friends... which means, Bykov would be forced to stay with Ilya instead of going into billiard club with his friends.

It didn't work, so Bykov just outright stated what he would attend that tournament, so she may only stop him by firing him.
* KickTheDog: Phil works as English tutor, and what he would need an early leave today to not miss their (fifth, actually) lesson -- of which Kupitman was aware, because Phil warned him preemptively. But Kupitman, due to planning to adhere poker tournament with Bykov (which was forbidden by Kisegach, by the way), needs to leave, too. So he forced Phil to cancel everything and stay in the office anyway -- but not before "agreeing" to let him go, only to state what this was bluff he tried to "train" before tournament, and adding what he doesn't considers Phil's problems serious enough argument.
* LastSecondWordSwap: Lyuba asked just how Maxim managed to organise this party, despite their boring jerkass of a Chief Doctor... only to clumsily changing it to praise when Kisegach appeared; Kisegach either didn't noticed or didn't mind.
* MissingStepsPlan: Maxim has tendency to create "genius" schemes... and fail them every single time. When he tried to invite other interns into yet another, they reacted without much enthusiasm. Then he stated his plan (organise a banquet for other doctors to earn their respect, which would require 30K roubles, 10K per intern -- just "a little" too big sum for mere interns), to which they reacted with even less enthusiasm, and outright refused to participate. However, he later created another plan how to receive (slightly less) benefits without paying anything at all -- to which they reacted more enthusiastically. Unfortunately, plan completely failed (due to relying too much on people acting in very specific ways, which they didn't).

Due to Jerkass Kupitman's indifference to Phil's problems, they were forced to work in Kupitman's office, because Phil can't leave the hospital. Problem is, she has very jealous husband, which cause several unpleasant moments for all of them.
** During their lesson, husband rushed in, and accused his wife of being prostitute, who due to cheating on him now needs venereologist. Now they must somehow explain to him what Phil really is her tutor, not her doctor -- which is not that easy when he stands in venereologist's office and wears medical coat. Phil being American only deduces credibility her story has in husband's eyes, because he finds it implausible what any sane man would move to Russian from USA just to become a doctor here. He did believed and apologised for his aggressive behaviour after Phil actually talked with him in perfect English.
** When Phil discussed with his student her jealous husband, she mentioned her inability to get pregnant. Phil suggested to examine her... only for said husband to appear again right in the middle of the procedure. Phil didn't even tried to explain what really happened, and instead tried to pretend what they keep studying; it didn't work. Fortunately, they managed to convince him by stating real reason... after jealous husband already broke Phil's nose. Even after this, Phil suggested to examine husband, too, to see if he could be the reason for their problem.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Rita's secret admirer, patient called Malyutin; everything goes wrong for him due to his shyness (he did "won" in the end, but not in the way he originally planned):
** Firstly, when he noticed Rita for a first time, instead of trying and introducing himself (and learning her name in turn) -- note what she asked what he wants first, and he just answered "nothing" and leaved.
** Then, he asked Alexei about "Head Nurse" name (he thought it was Rita), predictably receiving Lyuba's name (while Alexei now thinks what Malyutin is in love with Lyuba). He used it to order flowers for Lyuba, and while Rita received them due to being on the post (which was only things Malyutin had seen), she took them away and later gave to Lyuba.
** Then he tried to ask Lyuba (whom Alexei already warned about Malyutin)... about "Lyuba", and she, instead of realising what something is wrong, started playing along, still thinking he flirts with her, and invited him to Maxim's party.
** Then, on party, due to continuing talking in this third-person manner, they missed the last opportunity to salvage situation, and Malyutin (who is now drunk enough to propose... and too drunk to think straight) went with Lyuba in nursing room, and realised what something is wrong too late to prevent (just as drunk) Lyuba trying to have sex with him. He actually liked it enough to lost interest in Rita. This also led to funny conversation with Alexei when they started discussing just how it went, due to Malyutin still having names wrong (Alexei only realised what's wrong when Rita showed up and he noticed what patient isn't interested in her).
* RashomonStyle: When asked just how he managed to obtain money to throw a party, Maxim at first stated it was "too boring to talk about", but explained anyway (cue flashback to tournament where he managed to defeat everyone else, and then use bluff to provoke Bykov into missing sure victory). Later we learn from Bykov just how things actually went; main course of events was mostly the same (including part about kicking out Kupitman; he lost due to long streak of bad luck which started long before Maxim even joined), but his bluff completely failed to work on Bykov. When it turns out what not only is Lyuba actually tries to suppress the rumours so Bykov wouldn't know (she wants this party, too), but Bykov is out of the hospital. Maxim then replaced Bykov with Kisegach... who just happened to have a reason to allow this party, to prove to Bykov what she's not the "fun hater".
* StatusQuoIsGod: Drunk sex Lyuba had with Malyutin remained just one night stand; it didn't developed into any relationship, and he never appeared in subsequent episodes, meaning Lyuba remained just as lone as always.
* XanatosSpeedChess: Maxim's first plan (collect 30K roubles to throw a party, so they would win everyone's sympathy) failed due to interns collectively having slightly above 2K. He changed plan to announce the party, then use Lyuba to warn Bykov who would ruin everything, making himself a scapegoat in process while they would looks like victims.

* NotWhatItLooksLike: Phil has side-job as English tutor for (married) woman.
While he did received money for party from Bykov, he
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Lampshaded. After all Max's plans failed, he collected what little money interns collectively collected (slightly above 2K roubles, which is... not much), and rushed somewhere without saying a word, Alexei remembered what one-way ticket to Saint-Petersburg costs around that sum. However, it turns out what he had a yet another plan in his sleeve.
* SpringtimeForHitler: After his initial plan (to throw the party for doctors to win their respect) failed due to total lack of money, Max went with "plan B" -- announce the party then make sure Bykov would learn about it (through Lyuba) and sabotages everything, making him look like scapegoat while Max and friends would look like victims, winning everyone's sympathy anyway.
Lyuba actually tried to suppress rumours so Bykov wouldn't ruin everything, while Bykov himself is out of the hospital, so Max tried to use Kisegach -- only for her to agree to throw a party for reasons known only to her. So, Max collected what little they have collected... and rushed to Bykov, who's now participating in poker tournament, so he may join tournament himself.
