** And then Alexei laughed at Bykov's silly jokes, which Max, of course, interpreted as his attempt to win Bykov's favour (after which Alexei actually agreed with him). After this, he finally revealed the part about their bet... and still mocked him about laughing at Bykov's jokes, and called him "complaisant" again.
* WeakWilled: Whole reason for Maxim's elaborated plan to convince Alexei what he is "complaisant" was to win some bet they had long time ago -- wether Alexei is easy to inspire; Max won.
