He wouldn't be little for long. In fact, he'd be taller very soon. By the time the ''Brady Bunch Variety Hour'' rolled around four years later, the youngest Brady boy was now taller than all of the Brady women. In real life Mike Lookinland has ended up a respectable 5-foot-8, the shortest of the Brady men (Robert Reed was 6-foot-3, while Barry Williams is 5-foot-11 and Christopher Knight is 5-9) but taller by at least four inches than any of the females; both Florence Henderson and Ann B. Davis were 5-foot-4, Maureen [=McCormick=] and Susan Oleson are both 5-foot-3 and Eve Plumb was the shortest at just 5-foot-1.

The next scene features Carol extracting the splinters from Bobby's hand. Mike and Carol scold him for climbing the ladder especially when Greg had told him not to do it. But the damage has been done, and now Bobby has a real insecurity of being short. Carol tells him that lot of boys his age are just his size, but no - in his class, he actually IS the smallest. Mike tries to calm him down - that everybody grows at their own speed, and maybe in a couple of years, Bobby would have a chance of being one of the tallest guys in his class. Albeit, Pessimist Bobby quickly retorts "No, I won't. And being little is the worst thing in the whole world!"

The next day, Bobby comes home with a black eye and torn clothes and admits to his parents that he picked a fight with a classmate who was twice his size. Carol admonishes Bobby, telling him that it wasn't appropriate to try to pick a fight to prove he was a big shot, then tells him about Napoleon, a short man who tried to prove how much of a big shot he was before he met his Waterloo. She then tells him that many of history's great men were also short but used their brainpower to prove their worth. This gives Bobby a boost, albeit temporary, as he quickly begins to bore his siblings and others to his sudden brain-teasers.

After some time of stretching, Bobby returns to his room to measure himself - albeit he has not grown a single inch. Marcia tells him that he has to give himself some time to grow, and he decides that he'd have to stretch more. In the next scene, while he is stretching, all three girls are looking in on him and feel sorry for him. The next time, Bobby returns to his room to measure himself again, and suddenly, he has grown a half an inch. Inspired, he does it twice more, before rushing down to tell his parents that the stretching helped him grow 1.5 inches. Albeit, the girls are also downstairs with the parents. First Cindy, then Jan and even Marcia admit that they actually all moved the bar a half inch lower so that Bobby could think he had grown. Except that they should have checked with each other, instead of doing it three times. Bobby is really hurt from this ordeal, and storms off, exclaiming that he would now never grow another inch more.

The next day, Alice had decided to fix Bobby his favorite dessert - strawberry tall cake - as she now will not use the word "short" anymore to avoid causing more stress for Bobby. Just as she leaves for the market, Bobby walks in with dirty clothes... and a black eye, after he got into a fight with a kid twice his age. When Carol gets some cold water for his black eye, Bobby proudly exclaims that he picked the fight himself, after the other kid had acted like a bigshot. Carol then tells him about Napoleon - he was also short and tried to prove to the world how big he was, albeit that just like Bobby Brady 160 years later, he met his Waterloo. However, she also reminds him that a lot of great men in history had been short, but they used their brains instead of their muscles.

This seems to inspire Bobby, as he rushes to the library and checks out three big books, then at home, he starts reading them to boost his brainpower. Albeit, with his lack of self-esteem, and the rest of the family not reacting too fondly to his sudden brain-teasers (with Greg busying himself with the surfboard he recently managed to buy), he gives up on brain-power and decides that "knowing a lot is great, but it sure isn't very fun". Alice then tells him that he had been trying too hard. However, just then, Alice realizes that for the meatloaf she's making tonight, she's short two pounds of sausages, and since she also has a date with Sam later that night, she agrees to let Bobby run along and get the sausage himself.

Down at Sam's butcher shop, Sam decides to leave early and leave Greg in charge for the evening, also reminding Greg about the special rule about the meat locker. Just as Greg is busy putting all the meat away in the meat locker, Bobby comes in with Alice's order. However, while he is getting the meat out of the locker, the door suddenly closes. Bobby had came in, not knowing about Sam's meat locker rule - since the door doesn't have a two-way lock, then when anybody is in the meat locker, the door must be open. Which means that now they are trapped in the cold meat locker.

Well, the only problem is that it is too cold in there, but Bobby suddenly acts as if they are breathing up all the air and will now suffocate, until Greg tells him to "quit pretending like this is a submarine movie." Then Greg grabs a fire axe from the wall and tries to open the meat locker door with it, by slamming the door handle, albeit he only manages to break it, not to open the door Next, they try to pull the door open with the fire axe, but only result in breaking off the handle. Then comes the last chance - smashing the meat locker's window with the broken handle. This works, but when Greg tries to reach out of the window to open the door, he's too big for through, so it would be up to Bobby. And only now Bobby realizes that being small has its advantages, when he manages to climb out of the window.

Only that Bobby still can't open the door, as Greg must have broken the lock when he smashed the door handle with the axe. The only thing to do know is to call Sam, who's currently picking up Alice at the Brady house, who then shows up with Alice, Mike and Carol, and Sam and Mike are finally able to get Greg out of the freezing meat locker. Sam, who previously mentioned that he had plans for his butcher shop, such as modernizing the meat locker, but not very much money, now vows to modernize the meat locker, whatever it will cost him, to avoid those incidents in the future.

Bobby, having realized from the experience that being short does have it's advantages, exclaims: "Boy, am I glad I'm little." But he wouldn't be for long. By the time the Variety Hour rolled around four years later, he was now taller than the Brady women. And eventually, Mike Lookinland would grow to 5'8". By the time the Variety Hour rolled around four years later, he was now taller than the girls (and also Carol). And eventually, Mike Lookinland would grow to 5'8", 5'8". As the youngest boy in the Brady Bunch and second youngest overall, Bobby Brady was very often insecure. One of his bigger insecurities would kick out in.. '"Big Little Man"'.

Greg is busy fixing the girls' room window shutters and Bobby wants to help him, but Greg keeps dismissing him. Then the phone rings, and Alice informs him that he has a phone call. When he goes to take it, Bobby decides to take over where Greg left off, but Greg says he's too short and tells him to stay off the ladder. Wanting to prove that he is big enough, he waits until Greg is on the phone and goes on the ladder anyway.

Bad move.. as while he is up there, his movements get a bit erratic and the ladder falls away from under him, and he barely manages to hang on the ledge and scream for help. Just then, Greg, having just finished the phone call and hearing his screams for help, runs into the girls' room and pulls Bobby inside. "Told you to stay off that ladder!"

However, just then, Mike, Carol and Jan return home from shopping, and it is very well known how Cindy can keep a secret when she tells them that "Bobby nearly fell off the house!"

Meanwhile, it's time for the subplot. The reason for Greg's phone call earlier? He was trying to get a deal on a surfboard. He walks into the kitchen and asks Alice for the paper, as he wants to look for the want ads to raise funds for the surfboard. Just then, Sam walks in to deliver the meat to Alice, since his delivery boy had just quit when Sam refused to give him 3 fillet mignons a day as fringe benefits. Just then, remembering what Greg was talking about, Alice thinks that Greg would be the good delivery boy for Sam's business. She then shows Greg to Sam and Greg is hired on the spot.

While Greg then leaves to get a look of the surfboard he now has a chance to get, Bobby walks in, albeit Sam, not knowing about Bobby's recent phase, calls him a "Shrimpo", causing Bobby to run off to his room and sulk on his bed. Sam comes in to apologize, and explains to Bobby that he was once in his shoes - weighing only 4 lbs. when he was born, his father wanted to send him back; and because of him being so short that the teacher kept marking him absent, he even managed to flunk out of kindergarten. But eventually, when he became a teenager, he would grow half a feet in one year. This inspires Bobby, and takes to stretching himself on the bar so that he would grow.

After some time of stretching, Bobby returns to his room to measure himself - albeit he has not grown a single inch. Marcia tells him that growth doesn't happen overnight, and he decides that he'd have to stretch more.

Carol then reminds him about Napoleon - he was also short and tried to prove to the world how big he was, albeit that just like Bobby Brady 160 years later, he met his Waterloo. However, she also reminds him that a lot of great men in history had been short, but that they used their brains instead.

This seems to inspire Bobby, as he rushes to the library and checks out three big books, then at home, he starts reading them to boast his brainpower. Albeit, with his lack of self-esteem, and the rest of the family not reacting too fondly to his brain-teasers (with Greg busying himself with the surfboard he recently managed to buy), he soon decides that even being smart isn't very fun.

Sam vows to modernize the meat locker, whatever it will cost him, to avoid those incidents in the future.

Bobby, having realized from the experience that being short does have it's advantages, exclaims: "Boy, am I glad I'm little." But he wouldn't be for long. By the time the Variety Hour rolled around four years later, he was now taller than the girls (and also Carol). And eventually, Mike Lookinland would grow to 5'8", just an inch shorter that Chris Knight, and three inches shorter than Barry Williams, but still taller than 5'4" Florence Henderson, and 5'3" Maureen McCormick and Susan Olsen.
