* SoreLoser: Mercury responds to Yang's "Better luck time!" with a growled "There's not ''going'' to be a next time!" before attempting to attack her (if these events actually did happen).

** Yang gets attacked by Mercury after their fight and Yang defends herself, which due to Merc not having any Aura left, results in him getting his leg broken. But to the audience it looked as if Yang just randomly attacked him after winning. The negative emotions that the audience feels at that time seem to be attracting the Grimm outside of the Kingdom as well. An alternate view proposed is that what the crowd saw was the reality of the situation, but Yang was presented with an illusion of Mercury attacking, causing her to defend herself while it looked to everyone else she attacked directly. It should be noted however [[Recap/RWBYV2E4PaintingTheTown that the last illusion she attacked shattered into pieces]], which didn't happen this time.

* AmbiguousSituation: The ending has multiple interpretations of what could have possibly happened. It's made even more ambiguous because the straight answer of what happened is delayed by two weeks.

* FinishingMove: Mercury attempts this by converging all his wind projectiles onto Yang at once. Unfortunately for him, this fails to finish her off, and [[CriticalStatusBuff just makes her angry.]]

* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Both teams JNPR and SSSN won their fights in the doubles round. We've seen neither. Not to mention the fights the other four singles fighters went through to get to the last round.

* StunnedSilence: The audience members who aren't booing or vocalizing their disgust at Yang attacking Mercury are left stunned, including the rest of Team RWBY.

* CliffHanger: The fate of [[spoiler:Yang]] is left up in the air, and it won't be resolved until the series continues in 2016.

He mentions to Yang at the end of the fight that there "won't be a next time" for her and deliberately tries to attack her. Yang defends herself, thus breaking Mercury's leg. However the cameras in the arena showed an entirely different sequence of events, with Yang hitting Mercury out of nowhere. Given this is [[TheChessmaster Cinder]] were talking about, it's very likely that Mercury getting injured was part of her plan to entice the Grimm. The only question is whether or not Mercury knew about it.

The BenevolentConspiracy is concerned because Cinder has found a way to break these rules and ''steal'' part of the Fall Maiden's power.

* TheReveal: We find out who Autumn is and we also find out at least part of what Cinder is planning.
