* LetsGetDangerous: The moment that Ozpin readies his weapon, it's clear that he's gone from wise headmaster to Huntsman ready to throw down.

* TheBadGuyWins: Cinder sneaks into the underground catacombs beneath beacon and assassinates Amber thus achieving her original goal of becoming the new Fall Maiden.

* {{Foreshadowing}}: If you look closely at the Knight's arm Weiss summons, you can see it's actually the right arm. [[spoiler:Now look at which arm Adam cuts off of Yang]].

* TookALevelInBadass: The Atlesian Paladins have come a long way from their prototype forms in Volume 2. Three of them are able to give several allied teams the fight of their lives, even with Velvet taking out two of them.

* KickThemWhileTheyAreDown: Even though he's already defeated and disarmed her, Adam stabs Blake, just so she'd scream and get Yang's attention. After he beats Yang, he walks right up to Blake and attempts to decapitate her. Though it's only Blake's semblance image that was decapitated, Adam's intent was clear.
* LetsGetDangerous: The moment that Ozpin readies his weapon, it's clear that he's gone from wise headmaster to Huntsman.

* TheWorfEffect: Yang continues to show off just how dangerous some of the villains really are when she gets [[IncrediblyLamePun disarmed]] by Adam.
* YouCantThwartStageOne: Ruby manages to destroy the airship that was being used to control Ironwoods militia thus deactivating all of the robots and mechs attacking the huntsman. Unfortunately though Cinder is still able to complete her ultimate plan [[TheBadGuyWins and kill Amber to absorb the rest of her power]].

The battle for Beacon continues as Ruby, now on top of the ship that Roman Torchwick has hijacked, confronts both him and Neo. Although both of them get the upper hand at first, Ruby pulls off clever tricks that end up with Neo flying off the ship, leaving her final fate currently unknown. While Roman then fights Ruby to the point of victory, he is suddenly eaten by a Griffin and presumably killed. Ruby then defeats the Griffin and causes the ship to crash, while she uses Cresent Rose to make a safe landing. At Mountain Glenn, Ironwood ends up surviving his crash and joins Qrow and Glynda on the battlefield. Meanwhile at Beacon, the remaining students struggle to take down Atlesean Paladins, until Velvet steps in and utilizes her weapon/semblance, which turns out to copy the powers and abilities of all the weapons and their wielders she takes a photo of. With the aide of Weiss - who manages to further grasp her summoning to call upon the blade of the giant Knight she fought long ago - the students gain the upper-hand against the Paladins.

* PowerCopy: Velvet's true ability, using it to copy and use the weapons of Team RWBY, Nora and Penny.

Blake confronts Adam in Beacon's cafeteria, but is overpowered. Adam declares he will destroy everything she loves as revenge for betraying him. Yang Xiao Long, having stumbled onto the scene after a tip-off from Weiss, attempts to attack Adam after seeing him stab Blake, but Adam manages to make a swift stroke that cuts off Yang's right arm, leaving her unconscious and severely injured. Before Adam can finish her off, Blake uses her semblence to buy her an opportunity to escape with Yang in tow. Finally, down in the vault, Ozpin, Jaune, and Pyrrha oversee the process to transfer Amber's aura to Pyrrha, who finally makes the decision to receive the Fall Maiden's powers. Unfortunately, in the middle of the process, Cinder fires an arrow through Amber, killing her and receiving her remaining power instead. Ozpin orders Pyrrha and Jaune to find Ironwood and the others while he prepares to face Cinder - now in possession of all the Fall Maiden's powers - alone...

** When Velvet begins her power-copying with Ruby's scythe, she jumps into the air and is framed in a similar manner as Ruby was in her trailer.

* IfICantHaveYou: Adam creepily refers to Blake as "my darling" and "my love", and ultimately intends to make her suffer and die for betraying him.

* PowerCopy: Velvet's true ability, using it to copy and use the weapons of Team RWBY and Penny.
