Archaeologist Matthew Bellows is working alone in his home study, late at night. He retrieves an ancient and treasured item from a crate and begins scanning the item, storing the scan in a supercomputer called "The [=CyberMuseum=]." He gets a phone call from Barbara, his colleague that borrowed it from a Chinese museum. She rants at him about how irresponsible it was to take it home. He ignores her, then notices something peculier about the scans. Before he investigates, he goes to talk to his children Cleo and Alex, then gets himself a sandwich. When he gets back to the study, he carefully disassembles the artifact, and discovers an unusual and supposedly mythical stone inside. He attempts to scan that into the museum, and he's it a bit too successful. It disappears from the scanner and appears on the screen, in a surprisingly life-like fashion. He tries to delete the image, but accidentally released the god that was imprisoned inside it. Matt Bellows decides to touch the screen, and gets caught inside the [=CyberMuseum=]. He wanders off...

The next day, Cleo can't find him anywhere, but the computer is still on, there's a broken artifact on the floor, and his sandwich is half-eaten. Naturally, the police are called, but they turn out to be unhelpful. A few days later, Cleo turns on the museum to look for clues. She notices a vast improvement to the graphics, which she believes is a hint as to her father's disappearence. She calls her brother up, and they marvel over the high-def. Cleo dares Alex to touch something, so he touches a medallion with the image of Dionysus. Next thing he knows, he's on his back in a Greek courtyard. After fighting off three actors in bull costumes, during a ceremony for King Minos, Minos makes an expository speech that reveals everyone sees Alex as Theseus. It turns out that Alex is caught in a myth. He and Cleo, who can see, hear, and talk to him through the [=CyberMuseum=] monitor, try to figure out what happened and why it did. While Cleo digs through old books to try to find out the outcome of the myth, Alex is unwillingly forced to play his part as Theseus. Ariadne comes to him in the night, and because she's in love with Theseus, takes him to the inventor Daedulus, in the hopes that Daedulus could help Theseus/Alex fight off the Minotaur. Daedulus gives Alex a glow-in-the-dark ball of yarn and tells him where to find a sword, but the rest is up to Alex. In the labrynth, Alex comes across one of Theseus' friends from Athens. However, it turns out to be Gorgos, trying to trick Alex into changing the outcome of the myth. When Alex realizes this, Gorgos changes his mind and wakes the Minotaur with a loud yell, then leaves. After a brief fight, and much to his own surprise, Alex manages to slay the Minotaur. Everyone is shocked to see him emerge from the labrynth, and he goes to talk to Ariadne. Matt Bellows enters the courtyard and tries to talk to Alex, but no one can see him except Gorgo. They have a rather disturbing conversation about the power of the Gorgos stone and what it would mean if Gorgos got a hold of his stone. While talking to Ariadne, Alex sees the medallion he touched on the [=CyberMuseum=] screen. Surprised, he reaches for it... and is suddenly back in his father's study. Cleo is amazed to see him alive, and they contemplate the fate of their father, as well as the characters in the myth.
