* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: All the girls during te party at the Ingalls' jump to participate in the ballgame, though Nellie claims it's a boy's game, including the more overtly feminine Mary. It's during the game that they demonstrate Olga's ability to walk and run with her new shoes.

* WomenAreWiser: Olga's grandmother is much more open-minded to letting Olga play and after learning about Charles's idea to make special shoes to enable Olga to run, she takes the shoes to him and insists that he go ahead with the plan.

* BrutlHonesty: Olga's grandmother has no qualms about saying she has "a fool for a son" when she sees what her son's overprotectiveness does to her granddaughter.
