Detective Stabler is paired with John "Hawk" Hawkins (Creator/DavidKeith), an unstable, "cowboy" cop, much to Benson's chagrin. They try to catch a serial rapist and murderer. Their suspect is a recently released prisoner (Creator/KevinChamberlin), who was put in jail years ago due to Hawk. Alas, they come to deduce that not only is the predator someone else, but that the former prisoner is innocent of the previous murders, which means that Hawk was responsible for putting an innocent man behind bars.

* FrameUp: As it turns out the original suspect (Roger Berry) was in fact innocent all those years ago.

* HotBlooded: Stabler for the entire episode. He reduces a witness to tears with his incessant questioning. He manhandles a suspect during interrogation. Benson is understably worried and tries distracting him from time to time.
