The story of Hayate and Athena continues. After Hayate is tricked by his parents into giving them Athena's ring, Athena is filled with rage. When Hayate returns to the Royal Garden, a large, ghostly skeleton appears behind her, seemingly from the mysterious off-limits coffin, and she starts trying to kill him. After a strong attack, both of their swords break; Athena spares Hayate, who runs off, leaving her trapped alone in the Garden again. After a talk with his older brother, Hayate tries to go back and make amends, but can't find the Royal Garden again. Back to the present, and Athena is shown in Athens, Greece.
But that incredibly long arc is only the prologue to an even longer arc--namely, Golden Week. Buckle up everyone, it's going to be ''long''--as in, it doesn't end until volume 25, and then it takes another 2 volumes for the dust to settle. But first: Hayate gets pranked by [[spoiler:the Father]] by way of fake-{{Yandere}}-love-letter, which Nagi uses as an excuse to send him on a fake date with Maria.
Most of the main cast goes on vacation for Golden Week: Wataru is dragged to Las Vegas by Sakuya, who thinks he doesn't get enough fun; Hayate and Nagi plan for the Aegan Sea; Yukiji searches for a sugar-daddy to take her overseas; and Ayumu wins one of the tickets that Nagi donated to a contest.
