Soon after Tohma and Gaomon disappear, Masaru and Agumon also attempt to sneak into DATS, but are caught by Yoshino. Yoshino attempts to track down Tohma’s Digivice signal in the Digital World, but quickly loses him. Masaru decides to go after him in order to settle his fight, and Yoshino only lets him in when his destructive attempts to get the Digital Dive to work pose a danger to the equipment. Telling him to bring Tohma back, she gives him instructions to return to where they entered by 5:00.

Masaru and Agumon land in the Digital World, with both of them unfamiliar to the area as Agumon had been kept as a DATS experiment all his life. Not interested in looking for Tohma, the two seek out Drimogemon. They run into him before long and prepare to battle, but Drimogemon tunnels into the ground and Masaru and Agumon give chase. Yoshino loses Masaru’s signal as Satsuma and Kudamon catch her.

Every time Masaru and Agumon approach Drimogemon, he only digs around, and they’re unable to trap him. When they end up falling down a trench that Drimogemon makes, they find themselves face-to-face with Tohma and Gaomon. Tohma is embarrassed to admit that he’s in the same situation as Masaru and Agumon, and when Gaomon finds a way out, Masaru notices that Tohma’s injured. Tohma refuses to let it bother him, but Masaru decides to carry him out on his pride as a man.

The group finds themselves in a labyrinth of Drimogemon holes, and Tohma points out that if any of the Digimon evolve, it might cause a cave-in. He decides to find a way out by using a coin to mark where he’s been before.

Back in Japan, after Yoshino gets chewed out a bit, the members of DATS try to pick up Masaru and Tohma’s signals to no avail.

Tohma continues to be stifled by his injury despite his attempts to shrug it off, and when Drimogemon appears, Masaru and Agumon go in to fight in the hopes of doing so without evolving. Tohma attempts to convince him to bring the fight to a ground where they’ll have an advantage, but Masaru is sick of running away and attacks, taking Agumon, Tohma, and Gaomon with him. When Drimogemon catches them, he attempts to throw them off, but the group hangs on tightly and the resulting scuffle causes them to be taken to the surface. Tohma is startled, knowing that there’s no way Masaru could have planned that.

Masaru decides to lead Drimogemon to a suitable battling place, taking him to a nearby coliseum. Tohma finds it as workable, since Drimogemon can’t escape, and Masaru punches Drimogemon to activate his Digisoul. Agumon evolves to [=GeoGreymon=] while Tohma follows up by having Gaomon evolve to Gaogamon. Unfortunately, Drimogemon responds by evolving in turn to Digmon.

After some false starts at attacking him, Tohma comes up with a plan: since [=GeoGreymon=] and Gaogamon’s attacks had previously [[Recap/DigimonDataSquadE4TheNewTeamOfMarcusAndThomas cancelled each other out]], he decides to have the opposite happen, and he and Masaru give [=GeoGreymon=] and Gaogamon simultaneous orders to attack from the same direction. In accordance with Tohma’s plan, the attacks fuse and multiply in power, easily taking down Digmon.

Masaru helps Tohma up as they carry the [=DigiEgg=] back to the spot where Yoshino had transported them. Tohma asks Masaru if he’d planned the whole thing about Drimogemon taking them to the surface, but Masaru says that the only thing he’d thought of was having spirit. Tohma concludes that Masaru is something that can’t really be analyzed and agrees to form a team with him, sealing it with a [[HandshakeSubstitute fist bump]].

The two of them get thoroughly chewed out at DATS headquarters by Satsuma and Kudamon, but Satsuma spares some room to praise them for returning.
