Everything's going swimmingly for Richie and Eddie, for a change. They're having a quiet evening, enjoying the benefits of not having to pay the gas bill (instead, they happen to be stealing all their gas from their neighbour, the mean [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Mr. Rottweiler]]).
Unfortunately, who else should knock on the door but the gas man. Richie panics and attempts to stall him, prompting the beleaguered gas man to assume Richie is insane. Eddie arrives, having hidden most of the evidence of the gas thievery and invites the gas man inside. He explains that he's here to read their meter, as someone (Mr. Rottweiler) has been complaining that their gas bill is unusually high. Richie and Eddie silently panic as he checks the meter, with Eddie attempting to sneak up on the gas man and brain him with a cricket bat as he does so. To his surprise, the gas man finds that their meter reads "£00.00". The boys try to explain it away as them not using gas, due to, as Eddie puts it, not knowing what it is.
The gas man, clearly eager to leave, makes his intention to knock off work early, unless he can check the next flat's (Mr. Rottweiler's) meter before 6PM. Richie does his best to delay the poor man, telling him stories about pairs of trousers, forcing him to drink a cold cup of tea and declaring his undying love for the gas man. Understandably disturbed by Richie's insane antics, the gas man makes for the door. He is stopped by Eddie, who strikes him on the head with a frying pan. Richie joins in and the boys deliver a gratuitous beatdown to the gas man, beating him to the brink of death
