Down the bustling corridor, she sees someone she hadn’t noticed seconds before: a woman, whose face and clothes, like the stranger in the shop, form a uniformly black silhouette. The woman holds a black-covered book.
That afternoon, as students leave the building, Mary Beth exasperatedly tries on Weed's Specs. Beneath a nearby tree, she sees the silhouetted woman. Mary Beth fearfully takes off the Specs.
