** One particular boy named Kazuya develops an obsession with collecting them, desiring to hear every secret he can. When his mother lets them all go because they are so noisy and is worried about him. In response, he kills her by bashing her head in with a skillet and buries her in the backyard. The next day, he starts developing black spores of his own, all of them saying he killed his mother. Unfortunately for him, the window is still open, and he can only watch in horror as they all fly out.

* "Drifting Spores." As if the titular spores weren't creepy enough, there's also their origin. They are physical manifestations of a person's innermost thoughts, and they speak these thoughts out loud for all the world to hear if their bristles are touched. What could be more horrific than the idea of someone knowing every embarrassing secret you may have had locked away in your mind? This is an invasion of privacy taken to extremes.

** It gets worse. As the story goes on, Mukoda's dreams get progressively longer and longer, until he's completely detached from the waking world. By the time he crumbles to dust, the doctor theorizes that his dreams are now likely ''eons'' long, or at least far longer than humans can comprehend. Because of this, it's entirely possible that Mukoda's very soul has been transported to an eternal dream.
*** Even worse; Mukoda's dreams tend to be a mixed bag. Some of his dreams sound simply boring (such as cleaning toilets), some sound positive (like a dream where he falls in love), and some are so terrifying that he doesn't even speak of them. This means that, if Mukoda is now trapped in an eternal dream, ''there's no way of knowing which kind of dream he's in,'' which means [[AndIMustScream he could be trapped in an eternal nightmare with no means of escape.]]
