''Franchise/{{Touhou}}'' is notable for the large number of {{doujin|shi}} circles that {{rearrange|TheSong}} ''Touhou'' themes and may or may not [[WithLyrics add lyrics]]. The "genre" seems to have started at Comiket 64 (in 2003), when [=PopKorn=] & Hara-Kara released ''Stardust Reverie''. The fan music scene has grown massively since then, and there are now hundreds of groups dedicated to arranging music from the ''Touhou'' series.

The situation is getting better for overseas fans: In October 2018, quite a bit of ''Touhou'' music became available on iTunes, Google Play Music (and later BOOTH.pm) thanks to a [[https://touhou-music.jp/ label]] that specializes in digital distribution of ''Touhou'' music.
