* BestFriend: The story features a surprising number of intense non-romantic relationships, the most prominent being the BashBrothers Hornetman and Blue Train, as well as Miyuki and [[spoiler:Midori (a.k.a. the RetGone ''other'' Lily Cure)]] in the back-story.

On August 10, 2014, Earth was visited by a race of friendly aliens, pursued by another species, who turned our planet into a [[AlienInvasion giant battlefield]]. Humanity emerged victorious, but huge quantities of alien "[[GreenRocks Lambda energy]]" were released onto Earth in the conflict, [[MassSuperEmpoweringEvent giving some humans superpowers]] and turning animals into [[{{Kaiju}} giant monsters]]. To combat the emerging monsters and [[{{Supervillain}} humans who use their superpowers for evil]], humanity created the Earth Defense Force, which unites the precious few {{superhero}}es and scores of {{muggle}} support personnel to defend the planet against all manner of threats.

** [[spoiler:Marina Lednev, too. A total Lily Cure fangirl, she gets to be in a relationship and live with Yuri in the epilogue.]]

* DefrostingIceQueen:
** Hikari/Light Bright quit being a hero and avoided all human contact after a villain killed her best friend just to make her suffer. Miyuki forces her way into Hikari's life, helping her thaw out. [[spoiler: They eventually become lovers.]]

** Nana Goto/Night Diver for [[ComicBook/IronMan Tony Stark/Iron Man]], between owning a high tech tower complex larger than the government, and actually lacking any superpowers except AwesomenessByAnalysis and a suit of PowerArmor she built for herself.
*** While her initial armors look more like the Iron Man suits and hide her gender, Night Driver's suit in the final arc looks a lot like Marvel's Wasp.

** Hornetman's costume is heavily modeled after ComicBook/{{Spider-Man}}. Or possibly [[Series/SpiderManJapan Supaidaman]], given his gadgets.

* OlderThanTheyLook: [[spoiler:Sakaki, who hasn't aged at all in roughly sixty years (presumably due to his control over his own cells).]]

* ModernStasis: [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by Yuri when she wonders why they still use DVDs in the year 2075. Her sister explains that after the hostile aliens and empowered supervillains started showing up, pretty much all technological progress became devoted to the military.

''Gamma'' is an ActionAdventure manga by Ogino Jun that borrows heavily from all manner of SuperHero and YuriGenre plots. Its closest Western counterpart would probably be ''ComicBook/{{Watchmen}}''.

* WellIntentionedExtremist: [[spoiler:Sakaki's ultimate goal is to empower all lifeforms on Earth with Lambda energy so Earth will never have to worry about being invaded by aliens again. However, he's a ''very'' nasty piece of work who has no problem murdering anyone who gets in his way, uses innocent people as test subjects, and whose plan will kill a massive amount of people.]]

** Nana Goto/Night Diver for Tony Stark/ComicBook/IronMan, between owning a high tech tower complex larger than the government, and actually lacking any superpowers except AwesomenessByAnalysis and a suit of PowerArmor she built for herself.

* HeroKiller: The PlotArmor that protects characters against MonsterOfTheWeek threats is instantly disabled the moment [[spoiler:Sakaki and his gang]] enter the fray.
** [[spoiler:Specifically, Sakaki kills Mr. Lostman, Dr. Woe kills Blue Train, and their forces kill several other heroes during the "Hero Hunt" over the course of the four month TimeSkip in Chapter 17.]]

** Being a superhero is a time-limited deal, so they only get to use their powers for five years, tops. Most end up burning through their powers in a year or two. [[spoiler:Averted with Mr. Lostman, the first superhero, who soaked up so much Lambda energy that he kept his powers until his death, aged 75.]]

* BadassGrandpa: Mr. Lostman.

** Mika is a pretty obvious one of Madoka Kaname from ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'', between holding the title of "Puella Magi" and wielding a bow with heart-shaped arrows as her weapon. A more direct one is [[spoiler:Yuri's retgone friend and teammate Midori, who was erased from the memories of everyone in the world]].

* ForgottenFallenFriend: Very much averted. Most main superheroes are driven or at least motivated by the death of a close friend at the hands of the villains, and carry the burden of remembering them stoically. Hornetman seeks to avenge [[spoiler:his (in and out of costume) best friend Blue Train]], Flame Bane wants revenge for the murder of his MoralityPet Rei Nicole, Lightbright watched her best friend die because of her own incompetence and is ''definitely'' not letting [[spoiler:Miyuki share her fate]], Yuri takes [[spoiler:Discharge]]'s death very hard. And, perhaps, the ultimate example: even though it [[RetGone should not be possible]], [[spoiler:both Yuri and Miyuki (who doesn't even have the justification of superpowers!) remember Midori, the ''other'' Lily Cure, a little and resolve to live for her sake, as well]].

* IncestSubtext: {{Subverted}}, the incest tones of Yuri and Miyuki's relationship are anything ''but'' subtle.

* APupilOfMineUntilHeTurnedToEvil: [[spoiler:Sakaki began his career as Mr. Lostman's sidekick, though it's left ambiguous if he only became evil later on or was EvilAllAlong.]]

** The end of Chapter 7, when it's revealed that [[spoiler:the mysterious man responsible for the both the recent string of monster attacks and Discharge's death is Kyosuke Sakaki, a captain in the EDF.]]

** [[spoiler:Rather than a quick and dignified death in combat, the defeated Sakaki, Dr. Woe, and the Steel all fall to their doom at the three antennae while still alive and helpless.]]

** Hornetman's costume is heavily modeled after ComicBook/{{Spider-Man}}. Or possibly [[Series/SpiderManJapanSupaidaman]], given his gadgets.

** Mighty Blow is an odd case, being an expy of the relatively obscure version of [[ComicBook/JustImagineStanLeeCreatingTheDCUniversethe Stan Lee Superman]], as well as being an expy of the MCU Thor.
** Hornetman's costume is heavily modeled after ComicBook/{{Spider-Man}}. Or possibly [[Series/JapaneseSpiderman Supaidaman]], given his gadgets.

** Mika is a pretty obvious one of Madoka Kaname from ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'', between holding the title of "Puella Magi" and wielding a bow with heart-shaped arrows as her weapon.

** Hornetman's costume is heavily modeled after ComicBook/{{Spider-Man}}.

** Bulldramo is a walking ShoutOut to the [[ComicBook/IncredibleHulk Hulk]]. Chapter 17 even has a scene that copies Cap and Hulk's scene in the [[Film/TheAvengers2012 2012 Avengers movie]], right down to the gestures.

* HotterAndSexier: Volume five, containing the MythArc conclusion, really ups the ante in yuri fanservice into NSWF territory.
