** Apart from specific episodes, the series' MythArc rests just as heavily on aliens and monsters as it does on GovernmentConspiracy: that your own government with all the vast resources at its command is secretly out against you, and the best you can do is futilely try to outwit them. Mulder's personal motivation for his conspiracy theorism is not merely that his sister was abducted ''by aliens'', but that she was ''abducted'', and he's desperate to know her fate.

** Keith Kepler far right terrorist with a seething hatred for all Westalians, is the leader of a group of college aged far right ultranationalists/isolationists that desire to bring glory to their country believing starting a war by a causing terrorist bombing of a high ranking foreign official would do it. Similar to how real life terrorists are willing to commit acts of mass murder in the hopes of bringing attention to their cause in the hopes of achieving their delusional political ideology believing both their cause and themselves to be righteous and their actions justified.
** A more mundane one in Mission 16 is a Child Drowning in a pool and no one notice or hearing him and would have died if not for Anya noticing. People underestimate just how quietly a drowning can occur. Especially the drowning of a child. The fact that this happened in a room with adults, along with the boy's overseer arriving seconds behind his drowning, highlights a terrifying event that would have any parent of a small child waking up in a cold sweat. The adults themselves are appropriately horrified at not having noticed. This whole scenario is accurate as to how it can happen in real life.

*''Literature/LegendOfTheGalacticHeroes'':
**An occurring theme in the series shows how politicians take easily can advantage of democracy and its ideology for personal gain, and what happens when the people willingly give up their freedoms to leaders who don’t care about them. Examples being the first Kaiser, Rudolf von Goldenbaum who rose to power by taking advantage of the decadence within the Galactic Federation, gathering enough public support to the point that by the time people realized his true colors it was too late, and turned the federation into a dictatorship that would start a galactic scale holocaust and reduce most of the population into commoners with little to no rights. Another modern example would be the Alliance high council specifically Job Trunicht who as a councilor and later leader of the Free Planets Alliance, uses passionate speeches to appeal to the citizens patriotism to gain public support while crushing dissents through his secret ties to patriotic fanatics, all the while using the power and influence he gains purely for his own selfish gratification, even if it leads to the destruction of the alliance.
**Patriotic Knight Corps are similar to Far-Right and Ultranationalist organizations that preach about the greatness of their country and attack anyone that contradicts their beliefs even if they are peaceful protesters who disagree with them.
**The Cult of Terra being religious extremists whose ideology leads them to commit terrorism snd suicide attacks in the hopes to achieve their unrealistic goal of obtaining power. With many of their attacks leading to mass civilian deaths and those of high ranking figures in the hopes it would cause the destabilization of their enemies.

* Part of what makes the villains of ''Literature/SwordArtOnline'' so horrifying is because of how plausible they are in real life.
** Nobuyuki Sugou is a CorruptCorporateExecutive who uses his position to sexually abuse Asuna because he feels he's entitled to her due to a supposed ArrangedMarriage set up by the latter's parents. Even though all of this happens in a VR game and not in the real world, it doesn't detract from his predatory behavior. Such people do exist in real life. The fact that Sugou was trying to kill Kirito when the latter intervened to stop him from doing what he did in the virtual world in real life shows how some abusers in real life are willing to murder anyone who tries intervening.
** The Laughing Coffin guild's modus oprandi is causing as much death and carnage ForTheEvulz. While this seems like over-the-top villainy, what the Laughing Coffin does ''has'' actually happened in real life, such as the UsefulNotes/{{Columbine}} killers, who wanted to outdo the Oklahoma City bombing in bodycount and carnage. The fact that the Death Gun murder plot was created by two former Laughing Coffin members so they can continue the death game that is SAO is chillingly reminiscent of the copycat attacks and subsequent "high score" culture that Columbine spawned that has animated mass shootings like Christchurch, Poway, El Paso and Buffalo.
** Shoichi Shinkawa's backstory is eerily reminiscent of a disaffected person getting radicalized by a dangerous cult simply because he had nowhere else to belong to. To put it in perspective, he was once a sickly boy who, by the time of middle school, had alternated constantly between the house and the hospital. Rather than give him the help and support that he needs, his family had basically given up on him and let him do whatever he wants. He turned to the internet and video games as an escape from the disappointment of his real-life. And then he ended up in SAO, where he met the Laughing Coffin and was corrupted by [[TheCorrupter PoH]] into a murderer as he tool advantage of his desperate situation and made him give in to his darker impulses. By the time he had gone out of SAO, his mind was too far gone as he now only cared about murdering people. The fact that said radicalization took place online is very much reminiscent to how extremists like neo-Nazis and Islamic jidahists use online spaces to lure in and radicalize impressionable and disaffected people like teenagers.
** At its core, Vassago Casals isn't too different from cult leaders like Charles Manson and Marshall Applewhite, who take advantage of impressionable and disaffected young people and brainwash them into adopting their insane ideologies. Additionally, during the ''War of the Underworld'' sub-arc of ''Alicization'', Vassago taking advantage of the Chinese and Korean players' prejudice towards the Japanese and whipping them up into a murderous frenzy is remiscent of demagogues and rabble-rousers who take advantage of existing societal tensions and deliberately inflame them to instigate violence, which has happened numerous times, such as the Tulsa race massacre and the Rwandan genocide. The fact that Vassago also spurs those Chinese and Korean players into killing those who had seen through his trick by branding them as traitors is also similar to moderate Hutus getting murdered by Hutu extremists during the Rwandan genocide because of their perceived sympathy towards the targets.
** Gabriel Miller's backstory shows him becoming obsessed with death and mortality after being shown a video of a male praying mantis living after being decapitated post-coital by his mate, which leads to him experimenting on animals before doing the same on people [[spoiler:(such as with Alicia Klingerman)]], all in the name of studying the nature of the soul. Such behavior is typically one of the first big red flags of someone developing a psychological disorder, like psychopathy or antisocial personality disorder, and at worst the signs of a budding SerialKiller, similar to real-life murderers like Jeffrey Dahmer who have done similar things as kids.

** Cioccolata is often considered one of the most terrifying villains in the entire franchise not merely for his Stand Green Day, but his backstory. Before he was in Passione he spent his youth in the medical field regularly abusing those in his care in very plausible, disturbing ways. He purposefully botched surgeries just to see what would happen, in addition to turning down their anesthesia so they’d wake up DURING surgery. When he was only 14 working as an orderly he would drug and starve the elderly to keep them weak while gaslighting them; telling them their families hated them and won't visit them. Nine people committed suicide from this psychological abuse, which he also videotaped.

Instead of dying like the other humans that spawned Phantoms from their despair or becoming a wizard by holding on to their hope, he became a Phantom while still retaining his human mind. As such, he retains many traits identical to real-life male serial killers, such as being able to maintain a friendly façade and targeting women of a certain type. A glimpse into his true self is shown not too long after TheReveal, where he starts shouting in fury when Haruto and Kouske interrupt the attempted murder of his latest victim, only for him to calm down after a bit]].

* ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'': In the aftermath of the Herokiller Stain arc, Izuku "Deku" Midoriya and his classmates go to the mall in anticipation for a summer trip to a training camp. While there, Midoriya meets his future ArchEnemy, Tomura Shigaraki. Shigaraki then proceeds to take the young hero hostage and makes it clear that if Izuku tries to struggle or attack him in any way, he won't just kill ''him''. In a manner eerily reminiscent of a mass shooter, Tomura says that he could ''easily'' kill a few dozen civilians in the time it would take a Pro-Hero or even the police to show up and stop him. Take away the superpowers and you're left with essentially the same scene: A disturbed adult threatening the life of a child and a large number of bystanders, confident that he could do a lot of damage before being taken down.

**Himiko Toga's backstory is eerily reminiscent of a child suffering from an undiagnosed disorder and inevitably snapping and lashing out when they're not given the help they need to cope with it. To put it in perspective, she was once an innocent little girl until her Quirk manifested and she gained a fixation for blood because of it. Her parents however were disgusted by her and told her to stop it as it wasn't normal, even bringing her to a Quirk counselor who agreed with them and told her to simply suppress her impulses for the sake of looking normal. While her classmates all thought of her as a bright and happy young woman, she was really only wearing a mask until the day she snapped, unable to hold back her impulses any longer. This caused her to stab the boy she had a crush on, then drink his blood with a straw as she cried Tears of Joy. In real-life tragedies similar to this, such as school killings, several of the perpetrators aren't too different from Toga in that they eventually had enough of being forced to blend in with the rest of society and end up giving into their dangerous impulses because they were never given a better alternative than "just ignore them".

* ''Animation/NextGen'': Mai using her new robot friend 7723 as a means to get revenge on her bully’s can be quite disturbing as it parallels incidents of gun violence in schools, especially when she threatens the leader [[AlphaBitch Greenwood]] to the point they start crying thinking she is going to kill her. Fortunately Mai realizes she went too far and stops, and this makes Greenwood realize how her bullying almost made Mai want to kill her.

* ''Fanfic/OneStepTooFar'': ''WesternAnimation/CatDog'' is known for having a cartoon about two conjoined twins, a Cat, and a Dog, bullied by the greasers, a group of three dogs. While the bullying [=CatDog=] suffered was never played for laughs. It is part of the show, and [=CatDog=] is quick to recover. This fan fiction shows the bullying in a realistic light. After being chased around for the hundredth time, Cat asks the main bully, Cliff, why; Cliff reveals that he considers [=CatDog=] freaks; he hates cats and dogs that hang around cats, their mistakes of nature. That shouldn’t have been born. That shows Cliff in a frightening and realistic light of a bully and bigot, and even the physical bullying [=CatDog=] suffers is shown to be more realistic. Thankfully, Cat was able to stand up to Cliff and chase him away.

* Some of the characters [[KickTheDog dog kicking]] in ''VisualNovel/DanganronpaV3KillingHarmony,'' are realistically disturbing for the faint-hearted.
** First, we got [[{{Jerkass}} Miu Iruma,]] a total abusive asshole who whenever she speaks, just verbally abused and sexually abused everyone around her, and is [[RapeIsASpecialKindofEvil implied to have raped Keebo.]] Just a reminder that a very rare amount of hellcats like HER can, and DO exist in real life.
** Where to begin with [[{{Jerkass}} Kokichi Oma]]? His constant lying, and gas-lighting to his classmates almost all the time, are realistic portrayals of adult bullying and abuse, and the fact that he sended Gonta to his death shows how much of an [[The Sociopath unsympathetic sociopath he really is]]. [[HatedByAll It's understandable every character hates him]].
** Kaito's [[KickTheDog kick the dog]] moment to Shuichi at the end of chapter 1 is also a realistic portryal of abuse, Mocking someone for wallowing in a HeroicBSOD instead of saying death threats to Monokuma IS one hell of a [[KickTheDog kick the dog]] moment.
** Momokuma being an abusive parent to the Monokubs, such as giving Monophanie and Monotaro a [[ChestBurster disturbing death]] because he says that [[BlatantLies "they've been ignoring him",]] [[SympathyFortheDevil something that even Keebo was horrified over their deaths]], and in chapter 6, he blows them up one by one, despite Monophanie and Monotaro's please, saying "their story doesn't matter", it shows how much of a [[AbusiveParents scary abusive parent Monokuma is]].
** [[BigBad Tsumugi driving]] [[DespairEventHorizon Shuichi, Maki, and Himiko into suicide]] [[HumansAreBastards as the outside world takes pleasure in all of this]] with the survivors being called weak, filth, worthless, and how their lives are nothing but playthings for their own sadistic entertainment; is also a realistic portrayal of someone being [[DriventoSuicide bullied to suicide.]] Plenty of people in real-life have been tormented to the same degree as Shuichi, Maki, and Himiko in this scenario and even ''died'' because of it.
