* ''VideoGame/KantaiCollection'': the game doesn't have any regular "currency" (although what it has is raw materials I.E fuel, steel, bauxite, etc.), but it has "premium" money in the form of DMM Points, which let's you purchase things that you wouldn't get otherwise, like ship slots expansion or dock slot expansion.

* Played with on Website/DeviantArt. The main currency is Points, which can be only obtained by either buying them with real money or being given by generous users. Points can be used to buy commissions and prints from other users, and core membership from the site itself. Another currency is fragments, which can be used to buy Badges to award to deviations and comments, but can only be earned by having a Core subscription, winning contents and challenges, or being awarded a Badge yourself.

Added DiffLines:

* ''VideoGame/LEGOLegendsOfChimaOnline'': In addition to the base currency of studs, the game has Gold Bricks, which can either be purchased with real money or earned as a reward for various accomplishments. They can be used to speed up crafting and building construction, increase the number of inventory slots available, purchase better weapons and armor, and buy more colors of bricks to customize equipment.

Removed misuse of subversion; this is actually a subjective opinion.

* ''Website/{{Neopets}}'' has two forms of currency. The first is Neopoints, which act as regular currency you can get by playing games and selling items, used to purchase the majority of items in the game. The second is Neocash, which requires real world money and was reserved for purchasing special items at the Neo-Cash mall. Seemingly subverted, however; many users on the site felt Neocash, and the mall by extension, were poor and unnecessary additions and never bothered to purchase any, settling just for the free Neopoints.

* ''VideoGame/StarTrekOnline'': Dilithium & Zen. Dilithium Ore can be earned through various ingame tasks, and then manually refined into actual Dilithium at a fixed amount per day. Zen can either be purchased with real money, or traded for Dilithium on the ingame Exchange. You thus ''technically'' don't need to spend a penny to get items from the Zen store, but there's far more Dilithium in circulation than there is Zen which limits the practicality of actually gaining Zen by trading Dilithium.

* ''VideoGame/ToontownCorporateClash'': Gumballs are much more rare than Jellybeans. The main way to get them is by doing your [[PlayEveryDay Daily Tasks]], but you also can also earn them by fighting bosses or doing Kudos tasks after you've already hit Rank 10. You can spend Gumballs on exclusive cosmetics and limited-time {{Experience Booster}}s.

* ''VideoGame/TeamKirbyClashDeluxe'' and ''VideoGame/SuperKirbyClash'' have Gem Apples. Gem Apples can be obtained every few hours from the Gem Apple Tree or earned by completing Heroic Deeds. Gem Apples are used to buy items, equipment and upgrades from Shopkeeper Magolor at his Shoppe. Gem Apples can also be bought with real money; in addition to immediately giving you Gem Apples, purchasing Gem Apples permanently upgrades the Gem Apple Tree to give more Gem Apples. Paying a certain amount of money will max out the Gem Apple Tree, disabling the ability to buy Gem Apples in exchange for being able to obtain a ludicrous amount of Gem Apples from the Gem Apple Tree periodically, ensuring you will never be on short supply.

Paying a certain amount of money will max out the Gem Apple Tree, disabling the ability to buy Gem Apples in exchange for being able to obtain a ludicrous amount of Gem Apples from the Gem Apple Tree periodically, ensuring you will never be on short supply. Surprisingly, there is an actual lore explanation for Gem Apples: [[spoiler:they originate from Another Dimension, where Magolor assembled a Gem Apple Seed out of Fruit Fragments during the quest to restore his powers. He wound up taking a Gem Apple with him when he escaped Another Dimension and arrived in the ''Kirby Clash'' universe, upon which he decided to do business with the universe's residents by using Gem Apples and a Gem Apple Tree as currency.]]
