* Happens twice to Beatrice (Betty) Pinzon in the Colombian telenovela Series/YoSoyBetyLaFea:
** As she is having an affair with Don Armando, her handsome boss, she tells him that she has been wary of men who show interest in her because of what happened a year before. The neighborhood bully suddenly showed remorse for his actions, and dated her for a while, and she felt so comfortable around him, that they eventually slept together. However the next time she tried to talk to him, he bragged to his friends about how he won the bet of who was the first guy to have sex with "Ugly Betty."
** The second time it happened, Betty was so in love with Don Armando that she was convinced that he was going to break off his engagement to be with her. However when she was rummaging around his office, she found a letter from Armando's friend, Mario. The letter was basically going over the plan over how Armando was going to Romance Betty and going to use her economic saavy to scam his way into his parent's comnay, and how he was going to dump her and offer a nice severance package once they took over the company. Betty felt humiliated, and spends several episodes behaving coldly towards Armando, who was begining to fall for her, and he eventually demands to know why she's ignoring him.

* Tyrion underwent a particularly tragic version of this in Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire: when he was young, his big brother Jamie paid a whore named Tysha and two thugs to stage an AttemptedRape that the two of them could foil and the girl could fling herself at Tyrion in gratitude. Tyrion ended up marrying Tysha in secret, and when his and Jamie's father Tywin found out, he had her gang-raped by a barracks full of soldiers and paid in full "for her services".
** [[spoiler: Later subverted when Jamie reveals that Tywin had forced him to lie about the incident: Tysha was not a whore, and genuinely loved him. Naturally, Tyrion doesn't take it well.]]

This is a form of heartless PracticalJoke in which Alan thinks he has a date with Bonnie, but in reality it's a trick by Bonnie (or even Charlene) and the expected outcome is anything but a romantic interlude.

In the RomanticComedy genre, this will lead to Alan either temporarily breaking off with Bonnie (to make up later) or meeting Dorothy, who will be the actual romantic interest for the rest of the story.

# Bait and Switch - The actual date is with someone else than Alan was led to believe, usually someone much less desirable. "Oh, you thought I was asking for me? No, I was asking for my cousin Melvoid." (Compare BedTrick.)
# Embarrassing Location - The supposed date location is dangerous or embarrassing for Alan, because, for example, Bonnie wants to meet Alan in a Gay Bar (Gay Bar, Gay Bar).
