** While it was never questioned that Gaara was the most powerful of the three Sand Siblings and that his power was more than enough to qualify him as the Fifth Kazekage, his father never believed that Gaara would become his heir or that anyone would willingly sacrifice their life for him, since Gaara used to be feared and outcast by anyone in the village and was treated as a weapon by his father. Rasa the Fourth Kazekage, resurrected via Edo Tensei, was shocked to learn that Gaara has become not only his successor, but also became a beloved figure in the village, with the Elder Chiyo even having sacrificed her life for him. Oonoki the Third Tsuchikage even told Rasa that his son was appointed as the Regimental Commander of the Allied Shinobi Forces. Rasa was even shocked by the news that Gaara got ''friends'', with the resurrected Second Mizukage jabbing at Rasa for that. Gaara's two older siblings are still serving happily under him (well, at least Kankuro does, now that Temari left Suna-gakure for Shikamaru in Konoha-gakure).

** Itachi was a prodigy who developed his talents in his early age, became a member of the Anbu in his early teens and was portrayed to be his father's favorite. However, after Itachi commited the Uchiha Massacre to protect the village and prevent the coup de tat from happening, Itachi ended up becoming Konoha's public enemy (and the entire world because of his association with the Akatsuki). Only very few know the truth behind the Uchiha Massacre, so even after his death, Itachi is still viewed as a criminal. Sasuke, who developed his talents much later in life than his older brother did, would also become a criminal, but manages to reform himself during and after the Fourth Shinobi World War, having become one of the war heroes. Sasuke is now acting as the Seventh Hokage's personal partner and is a very respected figure in the village. That being said, the truth behind the Uchiha and Itachi's involvement of supporting the Great Shinobi Alliance is still hidden to the public, and Itachi was content of being a scapegoat as long as the village is still safe.

When it comes to siblings, they usually fall into two categories. One sibling may be considered TheReliableOne and is often the subject of ParentalFavoritism, while one is usually seen as a BlackSheep, and may be treated as TheUnfavourite. Often they may make a FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling pair, or their relationship results in SuccessfulSiblingSyndrome.

* In the Fanfic/AfterTheJungleSeries by Creator/Flowerprincess11: This happens with the Pataki-sisters, Olga and Helga--in the original series, most people (including Helga herself) figured that Olga (a bright/beautiful/popular college student who excelled at pretty much everything she did and was the one [[ParentalFavoritism generally favored by their parents,]] Bob and Miriam) would be the more successful one. But in the future-verse stories (the ones that take place during Helga's adulthood, like after she and Arnold have gotten married and had children), it's clear that Helga's the more successful one. Also, Helga's relationship with her parents has greatly improved as she's gotten older, to the point of where she calls them "Mom" and "Dad" more frequently (although she still has a habit of calling them by their first names).
** While Olga graduated at the top of her class for both high school and college (although she didn't go to an Ivy League-school like her sister did) and also eventually gets married (to a man named Patrick Sherman) and has children (a pair of boy-girl fraternal twins named Logan Robert Sherman and Lisa Miriam Sherman), Olga's life hasn't turned out nearly as well as her sister's has. These two things led to Olga having a bit of falling out with her parents--Bob and Miriam (the former especially) have always made it extremely clear that they don't like Patrick (but they genuinely love and care about the twins) and that they don't approve of Olga's relationship with him. [[HighHopesZeroTalent Olga fails to make it big as an actress while Patrick fails to make it big as a musician]]--they eventually move back to Olga's hometown of Hillwood and, after having the twins, Olga and Patrick have to find regular jobs in order to help provide for their family. Especially since world-renowned anthropologist, being most authors don't get their first well-known for his work published until they're well into their 30s[[/note]]). Also, with the Green-Eyed People of San Lorenzo[[/note]]. Helga's relationship with her parents has greatly also improved tremendously as she's gotten older, older (thanks to the influence of Arnold and his side of the family along with all the years of therapy she got), to the point of where she calls them "Mom" and "Dad" more frequently (although and where Bob and Miriam have a surprisingly good relationship with Arnold and Helga's kids.
** Olga's life, in stark contrast to her "baby sister," hasn't turned out nearly so well:
she still has had a habit bit of calling them by their first names).
** While Olga graduated at the top of
a falling out with her class parents when she decided to pursue a career as an actress (specifically for both high school theater such as Broadway) and college (although then she didn't go to had an Ivy League-school like her sister did) even bigger falling out with Bob and also eventually gets married (to a man named Miriam when she fell in love with (and ultimately married) Patrick Sherman) Sherman, "some hack of a wannabe rockstar" (as Helga describes him) who ultimately failed to make it big as a musician. After Olga and has children Patrick had kids (a pair of boy-girl fraternal twins named Logan Robert Sherman and Lisa Miriam Sherman), Olga's life hasn't turned out nearly as well as her sister's has. From what can be gathered, Olga's life seems to have started going downhill [[PursueTheDreamJob when she decided to quit her promising career as a teacher to pursue a career as an actress]] (even moving to New York City to audition for roles on Broadway)[[note]]Borrowing some ideas from the would-be SpinOff, ''The Patakis'', this happened when Helga was in high school[[/note]] and met/fell in love with Patrick ("some hack of a wannabe rock star," as Helga describes him), who she ended up marrying after only six months of dating. These two things led to Olga having a bit of falling out with her parents--Bob and Miriam (the former especially) have always made it extremely clear that Lisa), they don't like Patrick (but they genuinely love and care about the twins) and that they don't approve of Olga's relationship with him. [[HighHopesZeroTalent Olga fails to make it big as an actress while Patrick fails to make it big as a musician]]--they eventually move back to Olga's hometown of Hillwood and, after having the twins, Olga and Patrick have had to find regular other jobs in order to help provide for support not just themselves, but their family. While Olga goes kids--Olga, for example, went back to working as a teacher (she ultimately becomes a 5th-grade teacher schoolteacher[[note]]By the time Helga's oldest son, Andy, and only daughter, Megan, have started 4th-grade and Kindergarten, respectively, at P.S. 118), [[GeorgeJetsonJobSecurity Patrick 118, Olga's working at that same school as a 5th-grade teacher[[/note]]. Patrick, by contrast, has a lot of trouble holding down a job and is often switching employment (either due changing employment.
** And overall, in contrast
to quitting or getting fired)]]--and as a result of that, Olga and her family aren't nearly as financially well-off as Helga and her family are. Also, while Olga may still be closer to Bob and Miriam than Helga is, it's clear that Olga's relationship with their parents isn't nearly as good as it was when she and Helga were growing up. In fact, Helga's childhood, Bob and Miriam now seem to favor Helga (to some extent), probably (at least partially) because of how over Olga--even if Olga is still comparably closer to their parents than Helga has ultimately become is, it's clear that Olga doesn't have as good of a relationship with them as she did back in the more successful one of the Pataki-sisters.original series.

* In the Fanfic/AfterTheJungleSeries by Creator/Flowerprincess11: This happens with the Pataki-sisters, Olga and Helga--in the original series, most people (including Helga herself) figured that Olga (a bright/beautiful/popular college student who excelled at pretty much everything she did and was the one generally favored by their parents, Bob and Miriam) would be the more successful one. But in the future-verse stories (the ones that take place during Helga's adulthood, like after she and Arnold have gotten married), it's clear that Helga's the more successful one. To go into greater detail:
** Helga got accepted into [[IvyLeagueForEveryone Brown University for college,]] where she graduated at the top of her class and was able to score a job quite literally right after she graduated--she ultimately becomes a world-renowned (and top-selling) poet/novelist/short story writer (specializing in romance literature) working for Wright & Tate Publishing (one of the best publishing companies in the United States and apparently one of the hardest to get work published through). She also ends up marrying her childhood sweetheart, Arnold, with whom she has three children: two sons named Andrew "Andy" Phillip Shortman (her oldest child) and Henry Miles Shortman (her youngest child) and one daughter named Megan Gertrude Shortman (her middle child). Helga ultimately becomes a loving and devoted wife and mother, and her relationship with her parents greatly improves as she gets older (even if she's still not as close to Bob and Miriam as Olga is), to the point of where Bob and Miriam get along just fine with Helga's kids, Helga calls them "Mom" and "Dad" more frequently (but still has a habit of calling them by their first names) and Bob and Miriam now seem to favor Helga over Olga (to some extent at least).
