* Most levels of ''VideoGame/HadesII'' are thematically opposite to [[VideoGame/{{Hades}} its predecessor]]:
** The first, Erebus, is a forest on the edge of the lands of the living and the dead, contrasting the previous game's Tartarus, a dungeon in the deepest parts of the underworld.
** The second area, Oceanus, is filled with water, in contrast to Asphodel's LethalLavaLand.
** The Fields of Mourning are a place of eternal punishment, contrasting the Fields of Elysium's eternal reward.

* ''Film/ForceOfNatureTheDry2'': ''Film/TheDry'' was set in a small Australian town going through a years' long drought, with the potential danger of a wildfire. This film is set in a temperate rain forest where it's constantly damp or raining, and an incoming storm threatens to flood the area.

Examples should be standalone

** Finally, 2009 brought in the savage post-apocalyptic desert planet Bara Magna, which still had some elemental regions but was mainly a wasteland with derelict remnants of old tech, and likewise hid secrets of a pre-apocalypse world. 2010 would have been set in an ancient labyrinth, with 2011 taking place on the jungle planet Bota Magna, had the franchise not ended.

* ''Toys/{{Bionicle}}'':
** The first three years were set on the beautiful island Mata Nui, separated into six elemental regions and hiding ancient secrets underneath. One of the franchise's main "hooks" was the juxtaposition of advanced robots living a tribal lifestyle in seemingly natural environments, although there were hints of forgotten technology.
** The 2004 {{prequel}} introduced the underground island metropolis Metru Nui, the characters' original, abandoned home. While retaining some natural elements like a full desert and mixing them with ancient architecture, it also had a futuristic, industrial side where the robot-like characters didn't stick out as much.
** 2005 was set in a wrecked, animal-infested Metru Nui after the Great Cataclysm destroyed most of the city, explaining why the characters had to leave the place.
** The following Ignition Trilogy came back to the present, starting out in 2006 with the small floating island Voya Nui, a harsh and deadly place in contrast to the lush Mata Nui. 2007's Mahri Nui was an underwater town surrounded by dangerous, dark seas. 2008's Karda Nui was a massive cavern with giant stalactites at the top and a perilous swamp below. Each of these settings kept tech elements to a minimum, with environments and society strongly informed by the Great Cataclysm's aftermath.

* Both ''Film/{{Ghostbusters|1984}}'' and ''Film/GhostbustersII'' are famously set in New York City (as well as the [[Film/Ghostbusters2016 2016 reboot]]). The DistantSequel ''Film/GhostbustersAfterlife'' however takes place in a small time in Oklahoma. This movie's sequel, ''Film/GhostbustersFrozenEmpire'' moves back to New York.

** The first few games in the series took place in areas with mystical design and ancient ruins populated by intelligent animals overtaken by Eggman's plans. ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure'' mostly takes place in Station Square, a modern city populated mostly by humans where Eggman doesn't have a lot of sway over.
