** It appears that the people behind Nanoha noticed how splintered the fandom became. On one hand, they've released a lot of ''[=StrikerS=]'' side materials and created TheMovie to make the first season more [=StrikerS=]-like. On the other hand, they started a whole new video game series which is an AlternateContinuity centered around ''A's'' where the heroines had yet to grow up and the phased out characters are still prominent (and playable).

Not contested. Instead, widely hated. \"Contested\" derives from the root word \"contest\", which means people disagree on it

** People making this complaint may be confused as to what "Role-playing" actually is. Key to the concept is that the player is playing a role, which ME2 lets the player accomplish quite well. Spending hours of real time to traverse maps or manage inventory is not inherent to the concept of role-playing.

**''Banjo-Tooie'' as well. While the gameplay was virtually unchanged from the original (aside from some new moves for Banjo and Kazooie), the worlds were about triple the size, and each was connected to other worlds in some way, thus necessitating some backtracking in order to get some of the Jiggies. While many fans loved and embraced these changes, other fans of the original preffered the smaller worlds and being able to get all of the Jiggies in one sitting.

* ''KingdomHeartsII'' is a perfect example of this. The action was expanded upon, with new abilities like "merging" with teammates, and just an overall greater focus on the action. On the other hand, the platforming elements and secret out-of-the-way treasure chests were greatly reduced. Some say ''Kingdom Hearts II'' is a great sequel and use the action as their main argument, others argue that part of what made the first game so great is gone, complaining about the less exploratory level design and accusing the game of having an extremely weak and [[KudzuPlot complicated]] story in which [[CharacterDerailment the characters we love]] [[BadassDecay aren't themselves.]]

* [[YourMileageMayVary Depending on what mood]] Wikipedia is in on a given week, ''VandalHearts II'' is either "vastly superior" or "vastly inferior" to ''VandalHearts I.'' If you bought the second game after playing through the first expecting more of the same (at least semi-)realistic looking characters, nasty-looking animated monsters, and floating backgrounds, as well as gore, character classes, intriguing narration and CGI cutscenes, you're definitely going to be disappointed to find that all the characters in the second game are now animeish, with tiny bodies, over-sized heads and no mouths, the first monsters you encounter are now just cartoonish snakes, no cut scenes, and character classes are now based on equipment along with enemies that can dodge attacks.

* The most recent edition of DungeonsAndDragons has this in spades. All previous editions built on the same basic structure created back in the 1970s, but 4th Edition rebuilt the game from the ground up. Half the fanbase loves it for its tightly defined ruleset, tactical depth, strong support for the DM, and ease of play. The other half hates it for its reliance on GameplayAndStorySegregation, its heavy focus on battlemat combat, the shoehorning of all classes into the same mechanical structure, and a lot of gratuitous changes to D&D lore.
