Trope was cut/disambiguated due to cleanup

However, this trope has long been misused and become a BrokenAesop, overstating the failure rate of birth control, condoms in particular. Usually, it's just an overenthusiastic application of the trope, not realizing the UnfortunateImplications of it, but sometimes there's an agenda behind it, particularly with the SexIsEvil crowd promoting abstinence-only education (highly popular and influential in the world's biggest exporter of media).

* Alanna the Lioness went on FantasyContraception starting at twelve - wearing a charm around her neck that prevents pregnancy. After getting married she took it off for long enough to have three children, then resumed wearing it again. In the foreword of Literature/TortallASpysGuide Alanna, in her late forties by then and with menopause approaching, mentions having killed a mage who burned her body - as her husband George noticed afterwards - and a few months later realizes that in the fight that mage had damaged her anti-pregnancy charm. She takes to wearing it as an earring purely because George finds that a little annoying and they both prepare to raise a fourth child. George had 'jested' about wanting another and Alanna knows that often his jokes cover truth, and she's surprised but doesn't mind herself, since the midwife swears that this time it's not twins.
