* An [[WesternAnimation/{{Amphibia}} Amphibia]] fanfic titled [[https://archiveofourown.org/works/55442566/chapters/140681323 Open Eyes]] twisted the show's ending by having stuff like Anne dying, meeting the Three Stones Deity, and returning to Earth all be delusions borne from Anne suffering trauma-induced hallucinations apparently due to a combination of the Calamity Stones having overwhelmed her mind when she used all three and her falling into denial over having lost Earth forever. Anne's condition was bad enough that the Plantars had to bring her to a mental hospital where she stayed for nine months. Sprig ([[TheCaretaker who stayed with her to help her recover.]]) eventually was able to get through to her and help her return to reality.

* In a parody fan fiction about ''Anime/DragonBallGT'', right after Goku's HeroicBSOD and BigNo when learning that after his 100 years with Shenron, his family and friends are dead, we return to Goku and Chichi's bedroom and he explains to her the ''entire events of GT'' as a nightmare. * ''Webcomic/YuMeDream'' has this as TheReveal and a WhamEpisode in the middle of the story, [[GenreShift changing what appeared to be a ComingOutStory into a surrealist dive into Fiona's mind. It's also done for true impact; instead of the usual dream revelation being at the end and nothing in the real world having changed, the dream is the turning point of the story and the main character is greatly affected by what happened. The comic was conceived after its author experienced this trope for real: they met a girl and fell in love, only to wake up after what felt like months of being with her. Interestingly, the dreams ''are'' real, and what we think is the dream world is actually another dimension called "Nod", which means it's ''not'' just a dream.

General clarification on work content

* ''Webcomic/YuMeDream'' has a WhamEpisode (and BrokenBase inducer) in the middle when this happens, leading to a ComingOutStory having a GenreShift; instead of the usual dream revelation being at the end and nothing in the real world having changed, the dream is the turning point of the story and the main character is greatly affected by what happened.
