* SuperSerum: The Cruezzir class of medicine is more or less a miracle drug, but its intended purpose is basically just a HealingPotion. That's crazy enough, but something is discovered once humans start being exposed to it -- humans' gut bacteria absorb some of the drug, then begin to synthesize more of it and release it indefinitely. Thus, the regenerative medicine that heals injuries better than new starts making the human's ''entire body'' better than new, ''constantly'', and ''never runs out''. This has the effect of letting an affected human put on muscle basically as fast as they can eat food to support it, and [[HealingFactor heal wounds so fast you can almost see it]]. As useful as that could be, that kind of unregulated dosage isn't optimal or consistent, and it [[PsychoSerum plays havoc with the hormones and brain to cause dangerous instability]]. Refusing to let the human race have free access to Cruezzir for those reasons, the Corti create a derivative designed to be impossible to replicate or reverse-engineer and sell it to the human military. Crue-D (or "crude") is the secret ingredient that enables the HEAT to become so impossibly big and strong, though it only opens the door, the soldiers still have to do the work the get through it -- less ComicBook/CaptainAmerica and more a superpowered post-workout recovery supplement.

* DisintegratorRay: The Quantum Jammers [[spoiler:wielded by the Hunters' Von Neumann probes]] are lasers that disrupt the bonds between molecules to reduce their target to its base elements, working on the same principle as Nervejam grenades.

* MiseryBuildsCharacter: This is the Builder Alpha-of-Alphas' logic as to why [[spoiler:destroying the Earth]] acts as a gift to humanity: [[spoiler:by taking away the world they tamed, it's preventing them from growing complacent like the Hunters did.]]

* WaveMotionGun: After the Hunters watch the Entity use forcefields to focus solar radiation into a powerful laser, they get to work designing space stations able to do the same thing on a much larger scale. The end result is referred to as the [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Vengeance Engine.]] [[spoiler:A brief charge is enough to annihilate Daar's flagship, and at full charge, it consumes the entirety of AlphaCentauri to fire a beam strong enough to pierce the Sol Defense Field and reduce the Earth to a ball of molten slag.]]

** Later on, another Zero is introduced: [[spoiler:the last true Igraen, who survived for millions of years due to extensive use of stasis pods and acts as the Hierarchy's system admin.]]

* FantasticLegalWeirdness:
** Humans were considered non-sentient indigenous fauna by the Dominion before the Kevin Jenkins incident. Furthermore, the Dominion's bureaucracy considered it impossible for sentient life to evolve on a {{Deathworld}} like Earth, thus even individual abductees couldn't be considered sentient. However, one Xiù Chang got around this rule because she was adopted by the Gaoian clan of Females, and thus legally a Gaoian. After the incident on the Outlook to Forever station got enough public attention, the "no deathworld sentients" rule was scrapped and the requirements for sentience were lowered from having invented FasterThanLightTravel to calculus, giving humans the same legal rights and protections everyone else enjoyed.
** A Corti swore on a printout of the universal physical constants in court because non-deathworlder aliens are all atheists. Also a case of HollywoodLaw for the sake of RuleOfFunny, as Cimbrean is a British colony, and since 1695, you're allowed to affirm that you're telling the truth instead of swearing by God (and it's not like swearing that has kept everyone from perjury anyway).

* AIIsACrapshoot: [[spoiler: Averted. No one has figured out how to make an AI yet, and the only way that works is by doing a brain upload. This succeeds... to a point. Without the biological impulses telling it to keep living, the uploaded mind will eventually shut down. The Igreans and the copy of Ava get around this in their own ways- the Igreans by sponging off the survival instincts of the races in whose implants they live in, and Ava's copy by being born of the raw, pure, undiluted survival instinct of a Deathworlder.]]
