''Then'' Tails realizes the "Promised Land" is actually a very old landing colony, deep underground and built like a fortress. Tails then goes all out to make the weeks, perhaps months-long trip survivable by repairing the Outcasts' salvaged machines and equipment. The clincher? Tails practically ''[[BrainUploading downloads his brain]]'' into several datapads so the Outcasts could have his knowledge of science and engineering, and build up their own self-sustaining civilization over the course of several decades. If that doesn't tell you what kind of person Tails is, I don't know what will.
