* The end actually seems to be quite happy for Elsie. Through the strict boundaries of the British class system, she likely had no future outside of being a servant. She gets the chance to move to Hollywood, where even if she doesn't make it in films, has better opportunities in a changing world than she had before.

* When Ivor Novello is playing piano and singing in the drawing room after dinner, the aristocrats are polite - applauding after each song - or snippy, as with Lady Constance ("Please, don't encourage him").
