** For whatever it's worth, this troper had nothing more than a superficial knowledge of '60s Hollywood or the Manson Family murders and still enjoyed the movie. I found the visit to the Spahn Ranch to be a creepy HorrorHippies compound, and completely missed the significance of the August 8th date. Though the movie did prompt me to learn more about the RealLife events afterwards to appreciate it more, so I imagine Tarantino succeeded in that regard.
