Diego looks at the gun and opens it up. He takes out one of the bullets, and there are two close-up panels of the back of the bullet. Diego strikes the bullet, presumably bottom first, against the gun's hammer, and puts it back in the gun. He then takes aim at Johnny again, and when time resumes, the gun works as expected. Speaking as someone who doesn't know much about how guns work, what exactly happened here? The wiki's article on this chapter claims that the gun jams, and that whatever it was that Diego did fixed it.

Perhaps AU!Diego simply got so good at horse racing that time seemed to stand still, and he awakened his stand as a result?

So how does he keep producing replacement steel balls with no machinery in the middle of the desert? And wouldn't it be more weight-efficient to simply carry more of them than to carry the raw materials and tools to make another? He is in a race where every kilogram his horse has to carry will slow and exhaust it, after all. If he is carrying more, why not use more than two at a time, or simply reach into his bag for another when one is destroyed?

** likely it only means physically it would be a bit weird to specify someone "no longer exist in this world" since that sort of wording usually implies they have gone on to another world ei the afterlife
