** Short version, her feelings are mixed. On the one hand she feels superior to Zuko due to her talents and her father's approval leading her to look down on him. On the other she's intensely jealous of Zuko for getting theirs mother's affection as well as Azula being aware something is wrong with her that isn't wrong with Zuko. And on yet another he's one of the few people on Earth who can really understand their fucked up childhood leaving her emotionally trauma bonded to him while also harboring jealousy and hatred.

** Iroh describes lighting bending as separating positive and negative energies within one's body deliberately creating an imbalance. When they come back together and rebalanced it releases energy which when given direction becomes lightning. Azula specifically is mentally unwell such that she is constantly unbalanced with her positive and negative energies separating then recombinant pretty much constantly. Then someone taught her how to weaponize that.

*** Ozai clearly underestimated Azulon's loyalty towards Iroh, since otherwise the old Firelord was suggested to be rather cold and pragmatic. Presumably, Azulon's past decisions were based on impersonal logic and Ozai, heartless as he is, assumed that this time it would be no different. Given that Sozin and Azulon seem to had their children rather late, Ozai had reasons to believe that Iroh could still produce an heir by re-marrying and deny him the throne for good.

** Because for the most part of the season Azula lacks the solid leads to pursuit either the Gaang or her brother. Gaang has Appa, as far as she knows, who offers an unmatched mobility to the team and is rather difficult to track unless he sheds his fur; Zuko and Iroh are making an effort to avoid the Fire Nation with the additional help of the White Lotus. She probably made a logical deduction that both parties are likely travelling to Ba Sing Se but this means that she still has a lot of territory to cover while having to contend with the forces of the Earth Kingdom at the same time. Taking Ba Sing Se indirectly helps her goals by removing this factor; in the meanwhile staying close to the Fire Nation's frontlines gives her an opportunity to ressuply and gather valuable intel.

** What I'm wondering is, why did Ozai think he could convince Azulon to disinherit his very alive elder son, just because Lu Ten died? Wouldn't Ozai still have been heir? Was he just that impatient?

** Well let’s see, considering that Aang grew up with Monks, he might not have been taught to highly admire Royals. Or Bumi simply didn’t care about his royal status back then. Bumi’s past clothes don’t look like something a Royal would wear. Or as already suggested, Bumi wasn’t born royalty.

** It’s possible that none of them got a good enough look at him to do so. In the Boiling Rock, Zuko was already outed as Prince Zuko and Sokka introduced him as such. Additionally Zuko and Suki were in the same area doing chores, where they would get a good look at each other.

Added an answer to Fire Lord Iroh.

Added DiffLines:

** The answer depends entirely on Lu Ten's survival, because Lu Ten's death in combat was what broke Iroh's spirit and will to fight, and made him reevaluate things. General or Fire Lord, I'm sure that if Lu Ten was still fighting (because being part of the royal family wouldn't stop him from serving in the war - Iroh himself was the son of Fire Lord Azulon, making him a prince, and he was in combat during the siege of Ba Sing Se alongside his heir) and was killed in action, that would have the same effect on Iroh as it did in the show - he would have felt the immense pain of losing a loved one, which means he would likely realize that his actions were causing other people that very same pain, and as a result, he would most likely sue for peace.

Fixed a typo on my post just a moment ago (the newest entry added at the bottom, Azula abandoning her mission).

* Something I don't quite get: the final reveal of Book One's finale is Ozai dispatching Azula to apprehend Zuko and Iroh for the former's incompetence and the latter's treason. During Book Two, she focuses specifically on that exactly twice (during the first and final episodes of the season). Every other appearance she makes, she's either attacking Team Avatar, or any other non-Fire Nation faction (be that Ba Sing Se or the Kyoshi Warriors). On one hand, I might be able to buy the fact that maybe she deems taking Aang out a better use of her time (and perhaps a way of gaining more favor from Ozai rather than dealing with Zuko and Iroh), but she doesn't even consistently stick with ''that'' goal, because after she escapes from the showdown at the end of ''The Chase'', instead of resuming her hunt for either Team Avatar or Zuko and Iroh, she's overseeing the Fire Nation operation to breach Ba Sing Se, and it's only by coincidence that Team Avatar encounters her there. And then, after getting handed defeat by the heroes, all of a sudden she's out on patrol with Mai and Ty Lee, and encounters and assaults the Kyoshi Warriors, who she then impersonates in order to infiltrate Ba Sing Se. Is there any specific pattern to why her current objective keeps bouncing around from one thing to another, or is that just so she can stay relevant as Book Two's main antagonist?

** Another thing to consider is that Long Feng and the generals at Ba Sing Se seem quite confident that the city's walls will continue to keep the war out, just as the did when Iroh laid siege to it. And the city is vast enough to have what appears to be its own farmlands and other supplies. As far as he knows, then, he doesn't ''need'' to care about the war, so there are no consequences to keeping the Earth King in the dark about it. Even after the events of "The Drill," when the wall is breached, he's got the people who stopped the drill -- Team Avatar -- right where he can see them, with Appa as a hostage in case he needs to use them against the next drill. Is this arrogant, complacent thinking? Yes! but that's essentially Long Feng's ideology, the ideology he's imposed on Ba Sing Se.

Added DiffLines:

** Additionally, Long Feng's power rests in oart on his keeping the earth King unaware of the war, thanks to Ba Sing Se's walls keeping the war out. And as we see in "The Drill," a lot of the officials in the city -- even those in the know about the war -- seem quite complacent about the city's ability to survive the war thanks to its wall. After all, they already survived a massive siege by the Fire Nation under then-General Iroh. Azula and her allies infiltrating is a huge blow to that confidence, and the Avatar and his crew have already pierced the veil around the Earth King. I short, Long Feng already looks less powerful, and even if Azula were taken care of, the Dai Li see that the Fire Nation can find ways in to the city after all. At that point, betting on complicity with the Fire Nation is their best bet, and choosing the Fire Nation's princess over Long Feng in a head-to-head is the only way to forge that alliance. After all, if Long Feng does turn on Azula, he's turning on ''the Firelord's daughter,'' something that won't allow for any sort of stable or lasting alliance.

Loads And Loads Of Characters is no longer a trope

*** Ahem. You may not like him but the Guru is an awesome character and CoolOldGuy for others. There are good and/or interesting arguments to be made for him being either Earth, Fire or Water, not that he cared either way, but as a non-bender he wasn't Air. Agreed with the post below, they made a perfectly good character and did very little with him. Of course, this isn't a black mark against anybody IMO, [[LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters for obvious reasons.]]

** And he has no idea how to use that power. The first time he tried to use his authority in Ba Sing Se, he suffered a coup and then a foreign occupation. Not to mention that he only ever gave vague instructions like ordering Long Feng's arrest or committing his army to the invasion plan. He has no idea how to organise his subjects or lead them - which is what he went off to learn. Doing anything like trying to gather the remnants of his army would have just pt a huge target on his back.

* So the Earth King learns that the society he's supposed to be in charge of has been taken over and he just decides to abandon it to go traveling? Sure he's a NonActionGuy but still, being ''the Earth King'', someone who would likely command a lot of respect and have swathes of supporters around the world, shouldn't he still be able to do something or have some amount of influence to try and save his people? He's the '''''Earth King''''', the leader of the most powerful civilization that isn't the Fire Nation.

She was running to the Earth King because she had recognized Zuko and Iroh working at their tea shop and thought the Fire Nation had infiltrated Ba Sing Se—which she was right about, but she was a bit off on how. She didn't realize the Kyoshi Warriors weren't the real deal until she got close enough and interacted with them, and that's when they incapacitated her. As far as she knew, there's no evidence to suggest that they'd been told anything about the invasion yet.

** Alternatively, Katara simply didn’t want to use the Spirit Oasis Water on Jet. She’s not particularly found on him. With water healing, she was probably able to see that he was on the rink of death but didn’t want to use it anyways. She might have wanted to use it in a situation where it was more “important”. If true, that would be kind of selfish of her to do, but not unbelievable, especially towards Jet.
