That's probably the exact same thing Celestia and Luna have been doing this whole time and why it seems like they haven't been doing much, they just weren't as explicit about telling Twilight that they were holding back because they wanted to make sure she'd be up to the task once they were gone.
** It also shows why Discord doesn't just step in and save the day all the time either even though he's powerful enough to do so. He much rather prefers being a trickster mentor and getting the ponies to handle their own problems.
