At first this might seem like HypocriticalHumor on Marley's part: greedily hoarding that money when he was alive has brought him eternal punishment, yet he still seems to want to keep the money for himself. But then you realize that's not it. He's actually trying to discourage Scrooge's greed to save Scrooge from sharing his fate.
