Added DiffLines:

* ArtisticLicenseHistory: This film reflects the efforts made to recognize Leonhard Seppala and Togo as the biggest heroes of the serum run, while previously Gunnar Kaasan and Balto completed the relay and got all the credit. Some facts are disputed between members, but because this movie is about Seppala and Togo that's what is depicted.
** Seppala actually was Balto's owner and didn't have a high opinion of the dog, even claiming he wasn't the lead dog but was likely chosen for the name. Kaasan disputed this. In the movie itself Constance scoffs at Balto getting the credit, while he was more concerned with Togo's health.
** Togo is depicted as retiring from being a sled dog after the relay, living as a regular house pet for Leonhard and Constance for several years until he passed. In real life there was a massive publicity tour in the lower 48 States and both Seppala and Togo participated, and won, several races. Togo was also eventually given to a retirement farm in Maine where Seppala visited him several times, including when Togo was put down due to age.
** Leonhard and Constance are depicted as childless, with her questioning if he should risk his life if his stake in the situation was minimal. In real life they had an 8-year-old daughter, Sigrid.
** Seppala's role in the system is initially depicted as solely on him to get the job done going there and back, and the entire concept of a sled dog relay was devised shortly after he had already left. While there was a change in where the roadhouse drop point was supposed to be and it was pure luck that they cross paths in the storm, the relay system was already in place to begin with. The end credits do mention the whole ordeal was accomplished through 20 sled dog teams.

Added DiffLines:

* CareerEndingInjury: In addition to already getting quite old, Togo had an injured paw and was in particular bad shape after they finished their run. While he recovered, Seppala rotated him out from being a sled dog into a house pet and stud dog.

Added DiffLines:

* PintsizedPowerhouse: Togo was the runt of his litter and very week as a pup but grew to have an infectious spirit and shockingly fast. As an adult he was still fairly small compared to the others.

* HistoricalHeroUpgrade: In RealLife, Balto belonged to Seppala as well, but was seen as a mediocre work dog by him (to the point that Balto was neutered.) Gunner Kassan, the driver of the final team who naturally bonded to Balto during the run, wanted to buy Balto, but Seppala was so vexed by all the attention Balto was getting, instead sold the dog to be paraded around in various circuits. It was quite a cruel and spiteful move, especially towards a dog who was just doing his job and didn't know any better. None of this is mentioned in the film and, indeed, in most adaptations of the Nome Serum Run because it makes Seppala look like a total asshole.

In 1925, the twelve-year-old Togo is nearing retirement when word comes of a deadly diptheria outbreak in Nome, Alaska, which can only be stopped by delivering an antitoxin across a treacherous route of nearly 700 miles. Seppala and Togo take on the longest and hardest leg of the journey, and are pushed to their absolute physical and mental limit to get the medicine through.

Added DiffLines:

* SledDogsThroughTheSnow: It's an adaptation of the 1925 serum run to Nome, where sled dogs heroically transported boxes full of medicine to stop a diphtheria epidemic. A lot of the movie is developed to Togo's development as a sled dog and the famous relay.

* CanadianWestern: Or Alaskan in this case, since the Northern genre has both Canada and Alaska as the setting and like any Northern, the primary antagonist ends up being the very wilderness, weather and elements itself. Even the inclusion of sled dogs, a staple of the genre introduce by Creator/JackLondon appear in the film and with all these things being pulled from a true story it is an example of a real life Northern story brought to the screen.

* TheGreatestStoryNeverTold: The film isn't shy about how the media lionized Balto for making the final part of the relay and actually delivering the serum while ignoring Togo's doing the vast majority before then. Though at least the people actually in the business knew full well who the biggest hero was, and he spent his remaining few years as a highly demanded stud dog.

A Creator/DisneyPlus original film released in 2019, based on the 1925 serum run to Nome, which previously inspired the film ''WesternAnimation/{{Balto}}''.

Sled dog breeder Leonhard Seppala is at first disappointed in his new prospect Togo, who seems impossible to train. But when he tries to leave him as a pet, the dog is so determined to get back to the job that he jumps through a closed window, and ultimately proves himself skilled enough to take the lead position, going on to a distinguished career.

!!Contains examples of:

* TheAce: Seppala called Togo by far the greatest dog he ever trained, consistently the most skilled of any team.
* BadassGrandpa: Togo was twelve years old during the serum run, the equivalent of an 84 year old human, and pulls off feats many sled dogs in their prime would envy. Seppala himself was 48.

* {{Determinator}}: Togo jumps through a closed window to get back to Seppala (this ''actually happened''), and during the serum run he proves he's lost none of that spirit.
