Forcing Tom to have to interrupt the ceremony to retrieve it and, having no time to get somewhere discreet, throw the ring right in front of the ceremony to allow Sonic and Tails to come though with the avalanche coming in right behind them and plowing some of the guests in snow. [[spoiler: However this likewise lead to GUN having all the proof they needed that the Wachoskis were hiding Sonic and they quickly reveal themselves and their sting operation to capture Sonic and Tails.]]

* NotSoDifferentRemark: Sonic makes this comment about [[spoiler: himself and Knuckles, since they both suffered from the loss of their parental figures as a result of the conflict between the Owls and Echidnas. * BagOfHolding: Tails can seemingly pull any amount of items from his backpack, despite it being roughly the size of a small child's. While many of his inventions seem small, he's also carrying machines that allow him to augment both a cop car and a biplane for battle, as well as several explosives. This may be an homage to his antics in VideoGame/TailsAdventure

* GutturalGrowler: The Paramount live-action Knuckles speaks with a voice much deeper and rougher than other previous incarnations, courtesy of one Creator/IdrisElba.

In most continuities this form has a very strict time limit, with Sonic requiring a steady supply of rings to maintain it. In this movie, there's no mention of any such limit, and Sonic only returns to normal once he voluntarily gives up the emeralds' power in recognition of the fact that he still has "a lot of growing up to do".]]

** While Sonic was extremely badass in the first film, the primary reason he had a relatively easy time handling any problems that came his way was because of his SuperSpeed, which made it near-impossible for anyone to actually touch him, otherwise he had little fighting prowess. When he goes up against Knuckles, who ''can'' keep up with Sonic (to an extent) and explicitly has SuperStrength and years of training, Sonic gets absolutely creamed in their first confrontation and is only saved by Tails' unexpected rescue. When they fight again later, Sonic has to rely on his superior speed to fend Knuckles off and avoid being hit in return.

* NoOntologicalInertia: Averted. [[spoiler:Knuckles manages to beat the Master Emerald out of Robotnik, so the battle's over, right? Wrong, because his Death Egg Robot can still function just fine whether its pilot has superpowers or not. It takes Sonic turning Super to put an end to the massive machine for good.]]

** Sonic spin dashes at Knuckles, who promptly catches Sonic with one hand, says "Do I look like I need ''your'' power?" ([[NeverTrustATrailer only in the trailer - he's silent in the actual movie]], although he does say it slightly earlier), and then slams Sonic into the ground with his other hand. The whole time, while Knuckles is grimacing, he doesn't appear to be having any trouble holding Sonic back, and Sonic's spin dash was shown to be capable of destroying Robotnik's badniks in the first movie with ease.

* RunningGag: When people offer Knuckles a handshake, he tends to ''literally'' [[CrushingHandshake crush their hands]].

* FightsLikeANormal: When Sonic is attacking the bank robbers, he kicks them down instead of using his signature Spin Dash. Most definitely {{Justified}}, since an attack that can total a tank would almost certainly kill a human being.

* TheWorfEffect: Sonic is able to completely total a genius-built ''tank'' and an ''aircraft'' in the first film. This film illustrates Knuckles' SuperStrength by having the echidna casually catch Sonic mid-attack and slam him to the ground, causing an explosion. {{Justified}} in that in his original appearance, Knuckles was strong enough to knock Sonic out of his Super state with a single punch, so his strength here is fairly close to canon. He also states repeatedly that he has trained with his tribe for years.

* AchievementsInIgnorance: [[spoiler:Maddie and Rachel enact their rescue of Tom, Sonic, and Tails/revenge on Randall using gadgets from Tails' backpack. They have no idea what the devices do, but still manage to use them quite effectively.]]

* CelebrityParadox: During the confrontation in Siberia, Sonic refers to Knuckles as [[Creator/MarvelComics the Winter Soldier]]. Assuming that Sonic is referring to the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse version of that character, then wouldn't he notice that Knuckles and Heimdall have [[Creator/IdrisElba the same voice]]?

* BookedFullOfMooks: Sonic escapes from the avalanche in Siberia by teleporting to Rachel's wedding in Hawaii, at which point [[spoiler:the groom, Randall, reveals himself to be an undercover GUN agent by tasering Sonic and taking him into custody. He gets help from his groomsmen, his "family," all the guests he invited, and the staff at the wedding venue, all of whom are undercover GUN agents, too. Even the priest officiating the ceremony has a taser hidden in his Bible. Poor Rachel and her family were the only ones unaware that the wedding was just a ploy to capture Sonic.]]

** The people in the Siberian bar are a bit aggressive towards Sonic and Tails at first, wanting to throw them into a fireplace because Tails' translator accidentally insulted them. Subverted, in that they accept them after seeing their dance skills.
** [[spoiler:The government sets up a trap to capture Sonic, even setting up a fake wedding for Rachel and Randall to achieve this goal. This becomes subverted later on when Robotnik comes and attacks them and they allow Sonic and his friends to fight Robotnik without interfering.]]
