Emily and Linda are not happy to learn this, as they assumed he was an experienced guide.

''Snatched'' is a 2017 American action-comedy film written by Katie Dippold and directed by Creator/JonathanLevine.

After being dumped by her boyfriend, Emily Middleton (Creator/AmySchumer) can't find anyone to go with her on her non-refundable trip to Ecuador, so she invites her cautious mother Linda (Creator/GoldieHawn). At the hotel bar, Emily meets James (Creator/TomBateman), a handsome and seemingly trustworthy man who invites the two of them on a day trip through the Ecuadorean countryside. However, James turns out to be working for crime lord Hector Morgado (Creator/OscarJaenada), who orders them kidnapped and held for $100,000 ransom. The rest of the movie follows their escape and attempts at reaching safety, as well as Emily's brother Jeffrey's (Creator/IkeBarinholtz) struggles with getting State Department officer Morgan Russell (Bashir Salahuddin) to take their problem seriously.
----
!!''Snatched'' contains examples of:
* BaitAndSwitch: The movie starts with opening text accompanied by serious music:
--> "In the Spring of 2017 two American women were abducted fifty kilometers outside Puerto Cayo, Ecuador. What followed was a tale of violence, mayhem, and a reckless disregard for human life. The kidnappers did bad stuff, too."
* TheSlacker: The first scene has Emily getting fired from her job at a clothing store because she spends all her time posing with the outfits and taking selfies instead of selling them.
* SplitScreenPhoneCall: A text version. When Emily updates her Facebook relationship status, Linda comments, "That son of a bitch." The ensuing argument is shown using this technique.
